Battersea has recently approved a new 5-year organisational strategy to deliver an even greater impact for dogs and cats through our Prevent, Support and Care activity. This, alongside Battersea’s significant growth in recent years, means that we now require greater coordination and structure to support how we prioritise and manage key organisational activity and manage our resources effectively.

To support the delivery of the new strategy and its respective programme of works, we are now seeking a new role of Head of Project and Strategic Planning to play a central role in shaping how we deliver our priorities across the organisation, supporting the leadership team, directors and strategic project leads in the delivery of our objectives, and ensuring there is effective management and oversight of projects and programmes which facilitates sound decision making and governance principles.

To support a significant CRM implementation programme, the programme has incorporated some formal governance structures and processes to support effective change management and decision making. We are now looking to embed and expand on those and ensure we have fit for purpose mechanisms for overseeing all key activity across the charity.

This role will therefore be responsible for developing, embedding, and leading a fit for purpose and effective Project Management Office (PMO), shaping delivery practices, building project management capability, and improve organisational alignment and performance in a way that supports dynamic cross-organisational decision making and innovation. As this is a new position, and will result in changes to our ways of working, the Head of Project and Strategic Planning will also be required to play a leading role in supporting and enabling organisational change, ensuring there is a clear understanding of change impacts associated with projects and programmes, strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills are applied, and clear transparent communication of the roadmap, including risks and benefits, is shared to bring people on the journey and enable us to embed best practice methodology.

During the night hours, a key responsibility is ensuring the overall security and safety of both the building and its service users. This involves regular health and safety checks, monitoring emergency alarm systems, CCTV surveillance, and conducting routine patrols throughout the premises. Staff are expected to co-produce risk assessments, crisis plans, and support and safety plans in collaboration with service users, their families, and professionals to reflect individual needs and circumstances. Providing person-centred support is essential, particularly during periods of crisis or mental health relapse, and includes offering intensive help around substance misuse by promoting harm reduction and safe use. Night staff also support service users in achieving outcomes related to health, economic wellbeing, personal safety, and meaningful engagement, while responding effectively to emergencies and ensuring accurate reporting. Additional duties include caretaking responsibilities such as managing housing issues, completing cleaning tasks as outlined in the rota, and conducting flat checks as necessary throughout the night to maintain a safe and supportive environment.

They will possess a deep understanding of recovery-focused approaches and co-production, along with a solid awareness of the social and personal issues affecting this group. The role requires the ability to design and facilitate engaging activities that reduce anxiety, build self-confidence, and support clients in planning and pursuing their own recovery goals. The candidate must be highly motivated, maintaining excellent service delivery and support standards even when managing unpredictable or challenging behaviours. A thorough knowledge of relevant legislation—such as welfare reform, the Care Act, and housing pathways—is essential for supporting clients in crisis. They should be confident in engaging service users in assessments and co-producing, implementing, and reviewing support and safety plans, ensuring all documentation is accurately recorded and regularly audited. Proficiency in MS Office and other case management systems is necessary, as is an understanding of basic building safety and maintenance issues. Strong verbal and written communication skills are required, as well as the flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and bank holidays. Additionally, the candidate must be capable of handling and recording financial transactions, including petty cash, with precision and accountability.

·Planning and delivering patient-centred care, working closely with patients and their families.

·Acting as the ‘shift’ coordinator, overseeing high-quality team nursing care and coordinating wider team care that puts patients at the heart of what we do.

The Head of Fundraising and Communications plays a pivotal role in shaping and driving Bowel Research UK's fundraising strategies and audience engagement initiatives.

This position is responsible for developing and executing comprehensive fundraising strategies, growing the charity’s supporter base and income, building up new and under-developed income streams and communicating effectively with their audiences to expand their reach, and encourage financial and non-financial support to deliver the organisations mission.

You will have the autonomy and scope to drive elements of your work and take ownership of your own objectives. You will be required to collaborate on decisions to shape and deliver initiatives, programmes and processes as required for each area of income delivery. 

Key to the success of this role is a strong understanding of individual giving fundraising – an area that is underdeveloped at Bowel Research UK. This role blends the strategic oversight and leadership of a Head of Fundraising role, with the hands-on expertise of an IG fundraiser.

The successful candidate for this role will be someone who has already operated at a senior level within a charity such as at Senior Manager level, or Head of in a specific income stream. Having a background or significant experience in delivery across individual giving is also vital due to the importance of that income stream to Bowel Research UK – the post holder will be the organisations expert in IG.

Responsibilities will include producing regular quarterly forecasts and the annual budget, supporting project costing, overseeing financial management of research projects, and providing variance analysis. Experience in the charity/not-for-profit sector is advantageous, as is knowledge of different funders, philanthropic foundations, government departments, international organisations, businesses, and NGOs (grants and donor reporting). The ideal candidate will be able to present financial information clearly, work with accuracy and consistency, balance multiple deadlines, and have a proactive, self-motivating, and collaborative approach. Excellent communication skills and the ability to build relationships at all levels are essential.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced events professional to take ownership of delivering a diverse programme of high-profile events – from keynote talks and panel discussions to livestreamed and digital-first formats. The role involves end-to-end event production, speaker sourcing, content development, and close collaboration with communications and technical teams to ensure seamless delivery and strong audience engagement.

Key Responsibilities:

• Deliver high-quality events from concept through to execution, including speaker liaison, event copy, agendas, briefings, and on-the-day hosting.
• Source, invite and manage speakers across academia, policy, publishing, culture, innovation, and social change.
• Coordinate logistics including AV, livestreaming, hospitality, and technical requirements.
• Collaborate with communications and digital teams to maximise marketing, audience engagement, and post-event reach.
