Job description

Summary

The Inter-agency Network for Education in Emergencies (INEE) is recruiting an intern to assist with INEE’s work towards its Strategic Priority #2: to strengthen capacity to deliver quality, safe, relevant, and equitable education for all. This internship presents a unique learning opportunity to work closely with the INEE Secretariat, liaise directly with INEE members around the world, and be part of projects that contribute to the provision of quality education in crisis settings. This is a part-time, paid internship, based in the IRC UK office in London (or elsewhere by special arrangement).

Background

The Inter-Agency Network for Education in Emergencies (INEE)

INEE  is an open global network of more than 15,000 practitioners, students, teachers, staff from UN agencies, non-governmental organizations, donors, governments and universities who work together within a humanitarian and development framework to ensure all persons the right to quality education and a safe learning environment in emergencies and post-crisis recovery. The network improves communication and coordination among its members by cultivating and facilitating collaborative relationships and creating opportunities and space for sharing knowledge, developing resources, informing policy, building capacity and undertaking joint advocacy.

IRC

The INEE Capacity Building Intern will be based at IRC UK.

Founded in 1933 at the request of Albert Einstein, the IRC provides lifesaving care and life-changing assistance to those forced to flee from war or disaster. Working in 40 countries, our work spans efforts to respond to emergencies and help uprooted communities to rebuild the lives. Through 29 regional offices in cities across the United States, the IRC also helps refugees resettle in the US and become self-sufficient. The IRC is committed to a culture of bold leadership, innovation in all aspects of our work, creative partnerships and, most crucially, accountability to those we serve.

The International Rescue Committee UK is part of the IRC global network, which has its headquarters in New York. Our European headquarters, IRC UK, were established in London in 1997 to support the organisation’s global activities, diversify its donor base, and be able to better advocate with European policy-makers on behalf of the people we serve. Since its establishment IRC UK has grown rapidly and is now acknowledged for its high quality project management, technical expertise, and our policy and advocacy work. IRC-UK comprises approximately 100 staff across five departments. The IRC also has offices in Brussels, Berlin, Bonn and Geneva.
