About the Role
Reporting to the Deputy CEO this is an exciting role supporting one of the UK’s leading social investors.
We are looking for someone who is passionate about the work we do, is organised and has excellent attention to detail. Key responsibilities
1. To work closely with the Grants, Investments, and Development, Insight and Advocacy teams to ensure that SIB is well-placed to respond proactively and also reactively to business development opportunities.
2. To support the coordination and project management of existing business development projects in community energy, heating and cooling, social investment fundraising and capacity building.
3. To ensure that information is managed effectively, calls logged and tasks delegated, progressed and completed, feedback collected and meetings scheduled and facilitated across the wider business development team, particularly in relation to the CEO, Deputy CEO and Director of Investments, ensuring their input is sought in a timely way to progress key decisions.
4. To manage a calendar of events, calls and contacts across key areas of business development.
5. To take a lead (where appropriate) and/or work alongside others to create and/or deliver presentations in new and existing business development.
6. To manage (where appropriate) and/or work alongside others maintain long-term relationships with both current and new clients and partners.
7. To monitor tendering opportunities and manage and update the new business development pipeline.
8. To implement new systems to improve the efficiency of the business development processes, alongside business systems.
9. To work with the financial team to build costing models for new proposals and programmes.
10. To coordinate high quality bid responses for invitations to tender from funders, investors and other key client groups, to ensure that these are well-written and professionally presented.
11. To coordinate and contribute to a clear strategy and objectives for the business development function at SIB.
12. To attend relevant events or conferences and to keep up to date with the sector.
13. To adopt our continuous improvement and learning ethos.

The Role

Public support has been at the centre of RSPB’s work since its foundation as a campaigning organisation in 1889. With 1.1 million current members contributing over £95m to the charity’s cause in 2024, the RSPB has set itself a bold ambition to increase supporter numbers and net income from this core area.
Working closely with the Executive Director for Income and Conservation Investment and other senior stakeholders across RSPB, the Director of Supporter Fundraising will ensure that the organisation maintains and increases its income in membership, individual giving, legacies, in memoriam and community fundraising. The role will be responsible for a large team working to develop new strategies and to engage and grow a diverse supporter base, enabling the charity to inspire long-term support and active engagement with their work.
The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in growing a large and complex individual giving or subscription programme across multiple products and channels. They will also have demonstrable experience of leading successful organisational transformation to create long-term value, as well as of leading projects within a complex stakeholder or matrix management environment. Significant experience in individual supporter fundraising or consumer marketing through direct marketing techniques will be essential.
As a leader, the successful candidate will have strong collaboration skills with the ability to inspire, develop and motivate teams to achieve challenging goals in a variety of contexts. They will also be able to use their networking and interpersonal skills to build excellent internal and external relationships and must be able to thrive in a fast-paced, high-performing environment. Responsibilities
- Lead and innovate UK fundraising efforts, focusing on major donors and corporates.
- Develop a creative 3-year fundraising strategy and set actionable annual and quarterly objectives.
- Cultivate and expand relationships with new major donors, moving them along a prospect pipeline.
- Support the stewardship of existing major donor relationships, ensuring continued and increased support.
- Draft compelling theories of change, cases for support, and other key materials.
- Manage our visionary ‘donor circle’ initiative.

Qualifications

A proactive forward thinker, you have a keen eye for detail, are used to working in matrix teams, great at building relationships and a skilled communicator who enjoys sharing knowledge with others. What’s more, you’re a confident decision maker who’s eager to learn more about the F2F fundraising industry and Shelter as a whole.
Experience of face-to-face fundraising would be particularly useful, while an interest to learn more about project management and development is key.
