Job description

An exciting opportunity for a Digital Marketing Officer to help deliver our ambitious medical research charity's mission to reverse spinal cord injury for 60,000 people in the UK by transforming and propelling our online and digital presence.

We are the UK’s leading charity funding medical research projects around the world which develop groundbreaking treatments for paralysis. We are looking for a creative and enthusiastic Digital Marketing Officer to help us transform the lives of those paralysed with a spinal cord injury. You will be joining a small, new team aiming to deliver innovative, engaging and impactful communications through the digital channel mix.

Job description

This role will help create, and drive the digital content needed to produce engaging and effective communications throughout our digital presence. Responsibilities will include:

  • Actively managing and curating the charity’s social media presence on existing, as well as future platforms.
  • Developing a range of digital and multimedia content including imagery, video and audio materials.
  • Optimising digital performance through measurement, audience analysis and segmentation.
  • Helping develop a rich online experience for website visitors.
  • Actively contributing to the wider communication and marketing strategy.

About you

You are proactive, enthusiastic and excited about helping create a new digital strategy and content. You will be a self starter and able to work within a small team. You will be able to provide evidence and experience of planning and delivering tailored digital and social media content within a professional environment, ideally with a background in promoting charitable funding.

You will have experience delivering social media content through platforms such as HootSuite, and be proficient using Facebook Ads Manager/Business Manager to promote paid for content. You will have been comfortable in producing creative and engaging content, as well as have the analytical skills to optimise digital performance.

You have a passion for delivering impactful communications which makes a positive difference to wider society.

Now however, thanks to ground-breaking science funded by organisations such as Spinal Research, that view is rapidly changing and the world stands on the edge of being able to restore function and movement to the paralysed.

Working as part of the Communications and Marketing Team responsibilities aligning to this position include:

  • Actively managing and curating the charity’s social media presence on existing, as well as future platforms.
  • Developing a range of digital and multimedia content including imagery, video and audio materials.
  • Optimising digital performance through measurement, audience analysis and segmentation.
  • Helping develop a rich online experience for website visitors.
  • Actively contributing to the wider communication and marketing strategy.

Essential skills:

  • Experience of a digital role in a small, fast moving team.
  • Good knowledge of managing social media platforms and channels – HootSuite , Facebook, Instagram, Twitter etc
  • Experience in running campaign content through Facebook Ads/Business Manager.
  • Strong planning and diary management
  • Strong creative and copywriting skills.
  • Knowledge of Excel, Word, Powerpoint
  • Ability to write content for a range of audiences.

The role requires someone to be a proven self-starter, able to manage their own workload, research solutions to problems, opportunities for future projects and understand how to successfully contribute to the wider team and strategy.

Desirable skills:

  • Knowledge of Adobe creative products eg Illustrator, Photoshop, Canva etc
  • Working knowledge of CMS (Drupal), and CRM systems
  • Life sciences/science communications background
  • Understanding of analytics and reporting
  • Scripting/storyboarding
  • Video editing/publishing
  • Email marketing experience (MailChimp)

Employment terms and conditions

  • 35 hour week
  • 25 days annual leave per annum
  • Time In Lieu option for occasional activities outside of core hours.
