The Senior Community and Engagement Manager will lead the growth and development of the Community Engagement Programme, as well as the Garden Programme. Your focus will be on strategic direction, partnership building, fundraising, and overseeing monitoring, evaluation, research, and learning (MERL) activities.
Key responsibilities:
- Strategic Leadership & Programme Oversight: Lead and develop Community Engagement and Garden Programmes in line with the 2030 strategy, ensuring community collaboration, operational planning, accreditation compliance, and effective team management.
- Fundraising & Financial Oversight: Support funding proposals and budget development and oversee financial planning and delivery of services across both programmes.
- Monitoring, Evaluation & Reporting: Design and implement MERL frameworks, ensuring impact measurement and reporting to trustees, funders, and senior leadership.
- Safeguarding, Compliance & Organisational Support: Act as a Designated Safeguarding Lead, ensure policy compliance, contribute to SLT meetings, and champion equality, diversity, and inclusion across programmes.
The ideal candidate will have strategic programme management experience in community development, social impact, or environmental sectors, with strong skills in project planning, budget oversight, and working with diverse communities. You will have knowledge of safeguarding, participatory engagement models, and best practices in volunteer and community-led work. As part of our new 2025-2028 strategy we are partnering with ClearScore, the leading financial marketplace platform, to launch a new year-long study to prove the positive impact of financial education on financial wellbeing. ClearScore users in the study will be delivered three different types of financial education, across videos, workshops and other content, and then monitored against a control group for any improvements to their financial capability, their credit score, wider creditworthiness and ultimately their financial resilience, wellbeing and potentially access to credit. The effectiveness of the interventions will be robustly and independently assessed by an external evaluation partner, currently being recruited.
This study (and the resulting research outputs) has the potential to be transformative in the sector, and is kindly funded by the AVIVA Foundation, the charitable organisation which aims to help people deal with financial challenges. This project forms part of a growing suite of projects at The Money Charity aiming to improve the UK’s financial education ecosystem, by reaching more adults with new, innovative forms of financial education interventions at key ‘teachable moments’ throughout their lives.
About The Role
We are looking for a project manager to take the day-to-day lead of The Money Charity x ClearScore Financial Education project. As well as management of the overall project, the role involves delivering on some specific intervention workstreams allocated to The Money Charity, and managing the relationship with the external evaluation partner conducting the study. Additionally, the post holder will be responsible for a small portfolio of other related projects focussed on building adult Financial Wellbeing.
This role would be ideal for a hands-on and engaging individual with a strong track record in delivering high-profile educational or customer-facing projects. A good knowledge of issues relating to money management, access to credit and personal finance is also important. The individual will need an ability to navigate the retail financial services landscape in the UK, as well as a good understanding of the not-for-profit sector. This is an exciting, varied role to lead this transformative project from an early stage through to completion, and provides a unique opportunity to impact on the Financial Wellbeing of individuals.
The creation of this role has been triggered by the launch of the ClearScore project and is therefore being offered as a fixed-term contract aligned to the funding being received for its delivery. However there is some scope for the project (and therefore contract) to be extended or become permanent. The Money Charity would also be open to exploring filling this role on a 18-month secondment basis e.g. from an individual working at a financial services organisation.

The is a critical role in the organisation to ensure that philanthropic income is implemented in line with donor expectations and ensuring any obligations are stipulated in gift and grant agreements. The Philanthropy Implementation Manager will play an active role in developing and delivering gift implementation improvement projects, acting as a pivotal person between fundraising and finance teams across the organisation. The role is key to ensure that fundraisers are securing gifts in line with departmental policies. The role will also have a particular focus on programme management, ensuring that gifts are advertised and implemented.

About You:

Overview:
Spires supports homeless and vulnerably housed people in South London. Spires has undergone a period of rapid transformation, moving to a model of multi-site working across three London Boroughs. Our core services include, day centre style drop ins for homeless people, a Women’s drop in, a Refugee drop in and outreach targeted at supporting Women who are sex working.
The Head of Fundraising and Communications will be joining the organisation at an exciting time. Recent successful funding outcomes provide a short period of relative funding stability and an opportunity for the post holder to develop our communications and community fundraising strategies.
Part 1: Job profile
1.1 Purpose of job
To generate income from a diverse funding pool that includes trusts and foundations, legacy and individual giving, community giving, government contracts and corporate support. Trusts and foundations remain the primary funding source for Spires so maintaining consistent application output is a core element of the role.
Oversee Spires’ external relations and public profile. The post holder will be responsible for all communications and will look for areas to increase the organisations profile.
Work with Spires CEO and the Head of Client Services to ensure that data and outcomes are being effectively captured in a way that is helpful for evidencing impact.
1.2 Position in organisation
The post holder joins Spires’ Senior Leadership Team and will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer. The post holder will join the finance, fundraising and risk subcommittee which includes members of the board of trustees.
The post holder will manage the Communications and Community Engagement Lead who currently leads on community fundraising, social media and volunteer recruitment.
Part 2: Key duties and responsibilities
2.1 Management Responsibilities

To manage the fundraising/communications staff and volunteers.

2.2 Income generation

Maximise existing and find new income to meet agreed income targets.

2.3 Planning, monitoring and reporting

Part 4: Summary of terms and conditions of service
Location: The postholder will be an employee of The Spires Centre. This post is based at 2nd Floor, Elmfield House, 5 Stockwell Mews, SW9 9GX This role will by hybrid with three days in the office and two days from home.
Probation: This post is subject to a 6 month probationary period.
Notice: This post is subject to an 12 weeks’ notice period once confirmed in post.
Annual leave: The annual leave entitlement is 35 days per year including 8 bank holidays.
Pension: The Spires Centre will contribute 5% of annual salary for those who qualify for our group pension plan.

Details of Job
The Events and Communications Officer will work across the team to plan, produce and deliver a calendar of in-person and on-line events. They will also communicate our work to external audiences to drive the participation of small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) in our programmes and attract potential funding from corporates, grant-makers, and government bodies.
The post holder will work with the programme team to manage a calendar of online and in-person events and oversee the event process from beginning to end. The post holder will manage ticketing platforms, oversee event budgets and logistics and create event briefings to ensure alignment between external speakers and team members. This will include overseeing the set-up of IT and technology to ensure smooth event delivery and acting as a main contact point for external event partners. After events, the post holder will manage communications with external partners and audiences, log their participation in the CRM system and produce timely reports on event outcomes for the programme team contributing to evaluation and learning cycles.
The post holder will also work with the Director and programme team to deliver the charity’s marketing and communications plan. They will maintain and grow our brand identity and tone of voice by using social media platforms, paid advertising campaigns and creating original content for our website to share our impact, drive participation and grow our partnerships.
