Early Literacy Interventionist (North London)

38% of children from disadvantaged backgrounds leave primary school in England each year unable to read to the expected standard. Chapter One is a fast-growing charity, with a vision of a world in which all children have the literacy skills they need to thrive. We work to ensure that all children have 1:1 reading support at the time they need it most.
Our Early Literacy Intervention (ELI) programme (based on a model that serves 20,000 children successfully in the USA) provides daily, 1:1, 7 minute phonics sessions for children who are behind in phonics. Using a bespoke technology tool, a trained Early Literacy Interventionist works individually with target children.
This ELI role, reporting to the Schools Development Manager, is a great opportunity for someone who wants to develop and grow their knowledge of phonics and/or their teaching skill set. It is ideal for someone with previous school experience who is looking for a new and exciting challenge.
You will conduct initial baseline assessments and then deliver differentiated, 1:1, targeted, 7 minute phonics sessions to pupils using a systematic, synthetic approach. Although you are employed by Chapter One, you will work closely with the school team to understand the progression of the school’s phonics teaching; establish tailored plans for each child and feedback on pupil progress. Using your knowledge and insight, you will also collaborate with colleagues at Chapter One to further improve the ELI model, the online tool and programme delivery.

Overview:
Spires supports homeless and vulnerably housed people in South London. Spires has undergone a period of rapid transformation, moving to a model of multi-site working across three London Boroughs. Our core services include, day centre style drop ins for homeless people, a Women’s drop in, a Refugee drop in and outreach targeted at supporting Women who are sex working.
The Head of Fundraising and Communications will be joining the organisation at an exciting time. Recent successful funding outcomes provide a short period of relative funding stability and an opportunity for the post holder to develop our communications and community fundraising strategies.
Part 1: Job profile
1.1 Purpose of job
To generate income from a diverse funding pool that includes trusts and foundations, legacy and individual giving, community giving, government contracts and corporate support. Trusts and foundations remain the primary funding source for Spires so maintaining consistent application output is a core element of the role.
Oversee Spires’ external relations and public profile. The post holder will be responsible for all communications and will look for areas to increase the organisations profile.
Work with Spires CEO and the Head of Client Services to ensure that data and outcomes are being effectively captured in a way that is helpful for evidencing impact.
1.2 Position in organisation
The post holder joins Spires’ Senior Leadership Team and will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer. The post holder will join the finance, fundraising and risk subcommittee which includes members of the board of trustees.
The post holder will manage the Communications and Community Engagement Lead who currently leads on community fundraising, social media and volunteer recruitment.

Part 4: Summary of terms and conditions of service
Location: The postholder will be an employee of The Spires Centre. This post is based at 2nd Floor, Elmfield House, 5 Stockwell Mews, SW9 9GX This role will by hybrid with three days in the office and two days from home.
Probation: This post is subject to a 6 month probationary period.
Notice: This post is subject to an 12 weeks’ notice period once confirmed in post.
Annual leave: The annual leave entitlement is 35 days per year including 8 bank holidays.

ABOUT THE ROLE
The Women Transport Workers and Gender Equality Officer will play a fundamental role in leading and developing strategies on organising and increasing collective bargaining and leverage for women transport workers, on behalf of the ITF.
At the direction of the General Secretary and Executive Board, the Women Transport Workers and Gender Equality Officer will be responsible for leading the ITF’s Gender and Equality Programme. The role will be focused on developing leading campaign strategies to organise women workers and increase the capacity of our affiliates in this area. It will strategically engage with ITF affiliates, donor organisations and other relevant stakeholders to deliver projects globally, which includes managing relationships with multinationals to improve the state of gender and equality matters across transport supply chains.
This role will have accountability for the management of relevant staff of the Women’s Department, as well as budgeting and planning for all development initiatives.

About the role

The Grants Officer will support the Senior Manager to develop and implement monitoring and reporting
processes across the Foundation’s grant-giving activities. To be successful in the role, you must have

Key Responsibilities
Youth Empowerment Fund (60%):
- Support the monitoring and reporting of the EU funded YEF programme. Including coordinationwithin the IAF and with the Big 6 designated leads.
- Communicating with and activating networks of national organizations to participate in the YEF,including sharing opportunities to take part in Big 6 advocacy activities and applying for youthled solutions open-call Local Solutions grants.
- Issuing of grants to successful national organizations and monitoring and evaluation, including regular reporting on outcomes and impact of national projects to the YEF project team.
- Sharing success stories from the YEF to support the Big 6 communication, storytelling and creative reporting efforts.
Other Grant based support (40%):

To be successful, you must have experience:
- Experienced in sporting or challenge event fundraising, donor management and stewardship with excellent organisational and time management skills

- Familiar with fundraising platforms (JustGiving, Enthuse) and CRM/databases
- Positive, can do attitude and comfortable working under pressure to meet deadlines

Your new company
As part of the work to support the integration of a leading University in London, the postholder will work closely with the HR Policy & Projects Manager in the review, development, and implementation of a new HR policy framework. This will include identifying gaps in existing policy provisions and contributing to and leading on the development and delivery of effective solutions. The postholder will also take a role in feedback processes with key stakeholders, including formal consultation with the recognised Trade Unions, and developing and implementing effective communication strategies.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
* Keep abreast of pending legislative and regulatory changes, case law, and developments, and other good practice HR initiatives, to inform the development of new or revised HR Policies, Procedures, and other resources, and HR practices.
* Undertake background research and prepare reports, briefing papers, etc. for the development of people management strategies, policies, procedures, contracts, terms and conditions of service, ensuring that the University's HR policy resources remain fit for purpose.
* Draft new and/or updated documents (policies, procedures, guidance, and related resources) to reflect legislative and regulatory changes and HR best practice.
* In liaison with the HR Policy & Projects Manager and Head of Employee Relations & Policy Development, engage and consult with trade unions, Staff Networks, and other stakeholders in the development of people management strategies, policies, procedures, and good practice.
* Engage positively with HR colleagues and departmental staff from across the institution, to determine processes for the effective implementation of new or amended strategies and policies. This may include consideration of system and process implications and appropriate communication strategies.
* Provide high-quality, technical advice, guidance, and professional support to HR Directorate colleagues and others on employment policy and practice.
* Become a source of expert knowledge in relevant areas, such as clinical academics/ contractual arrangements.
* In liaison with the HR Policy & Projects Manager, the Marketing & External Relations Team, and other stakeholders (as appropriate), prepare communication plans, and develop manager and staff communications relating to policy, procedure, and related updates.
* Design and implement/deliver a variety of support mechanisms (e.g., training resources and guides, website resources) to maximise support available to the HR Team, staff, and managers on the application of employment law and HR best practice.
* In collaboration with colleagues in the Employee Relations & Policy Team, analyse trends from employee relations casework and employment case law to identify areas of potential risk, and make recommendations for policy changes, updates, or training requirements.
* Advise on and positively encourage the application of best practice in employment matters with regard to equality, diversity, and inclusion.
* (Where appropriate) Undertake Equality Impact Assessments on new/revised HR Policies, Procedures, and related resources to identify and understand the likely equality impact(s) of the activity, policy, or process, etc., and associated actions.
* Support the development, communication, and implementation of HR projects and activities in support of the University's strategy.
* Contribute to the professional development of the Employee Relations & Policy Team, and wider Directorate, through your functional expertise.
* Co-ordinate responses to surveys, e.g. sector benchmarking.
* Participate in HR, University, and HEI working groups as required
