East London Waterworks Park is a volunteer-led charity that has won a 2024 New London Architecture award and raised £2m towards buying land from the Department for Education to transform the 14-acre Thames Water Depot on Lea Bridge Road on the border of Waltham Forest and Hackney, into a new biodiverse park with natural swimming ponds, forest schools and community spaces.
If you would like to help us develop our digital fundraising and our online offer, would you like to join our fundraising and communications teams in creating and implementing a strategy? We would love to hear from anyone with experience of fundraising online or with enthusiasm and a desire to test things out and learn as you go along. Recently we raised over half a million pounds through our Crowdfunder. Now we are looking to create a sustainable medium term income stream online.
The Fundraising Circle currently meets fortnightly on a Thursday evening on Google Meet and spends voluntary time outside of the meeting completing agreed tasks remotely. We understand that people may not have a lot of time to give, so we want to find volunteers who could give us one-off or ongoing strategic advice and support.
If you have experience in writing grants and funding applications, corporate fundraising, philanthropy, or any other aspect of fundraising, it would be great to hear from you.
We are keen fundraisers but we are lacking professional in digital fundraising expertise and experience and we would love your help and input. We would welcome one-off advice on the phone or in person, as well as longer term volunteers.

Coffee Shop Volunteer - Prevent Breast Cancer
Commitment/Hours
Morning 9.30am-1pm Afternoon 1pm-4pm
Purpose/summary of the role
Assisting in the running of the Coffee Shop in a methodical and organised way.
The Coffee Shop plays a significant role in the promotion of the image and work of Prevent Breast Cancer whilst providing a vital service to patients of The Nightingale Centre and Prevent Breast Cancer.
The profits generated are used to support research into breast cancer prediction and prevention.
With this in mind, please find below a list of tasks/ activities which the Prevent Breast Cancer Volunteer will undertake in this area.
Main duties & responsibilities
- To assist and serve customers with food items and beverages.
- To ensure food safety and food hygiene at all times.
- To handle cash and card payments securely.
- To keep the Coffee Shop and areas around, clean and tidy throughout the day.
- To check, use by and sell by dates on all perishables and notify at the end of the day.
- Ability to work on own initiative regarding the upkeep of the Coffee Shop.
- To monitor and record fridge temperatures.
Training will be given on all aspects
- An e-learning course to be completed
- Health & hygiene in regard to serving food and beverages
- Customer service
- Daily cleaning
- Handling cash and card payments, including training on using a tablet and card reader
- Monitor and recording of fridge temperature levels

Who are we looking for?
At present we are working towards being fully operational, over the next year Living Reasons will be looking to expand its reach and part of that journey is to work on various platforms in new and creative ways, one of which will be Substack.
If you enjoy writing blogs or newsletters, are able to tell stories in an engaging way, this is the role for you.
This would include writing a weekly “point of view” piece that focuses on an area that Living Reasons engages in, whether this is research data reporting, lived experience storytelling or news highlight pieces.
Additionally to writing posts, you may also want to work with the social media coordinator to create video posts or even look at creating a podcast for the charity, the options are limitless as at Living Reasons, we encourage the entire team to bring ideas to the table and empower you to run with them, with the support of the organisation.
What is the plan?
The person who is starting the charity up is autistic, has ADHD, CPTSD and also multiple physical conditions that effect daily life and is part of the LGBTQ+ community and has faced a lot of issues in life because of these things.
Living Reasons is being created to fix what we think is a challenging situation that is getting harder to achieve every week, month and year in the current economic, political, environmental and societal landscape. It is not easily defined but we hope the charity objects below will help put context to what we want to achieve, what we can say is that below are the issues we are trying to address, how we do this will change as quickly as society does, but the issues we want to tackle are these:

We’re looking for a communications-minded creator to lead Europia’s external newsletter (every two months) and coordinate content for the Annual Report. You’ll gather information, quotes and photography from staff, volunteers, partners and funders; shape it into clear, engaging content; and help present Europia’s impact in an accessible, on-brand way.
Key Responsibilities

About The Role

Our volunteers help to welcome and inspire visitors, and look after our unique habitats and heritage. Volunteers are an essential part of the WWT team. You'll get a warm welcome, including information on training, equipment and anything else you need.

Learning and curriculum designers wanted to help East London Waterworks Park deliver its environmental learning goals.

We are looking for volunteers to develop learning content and resources, such as lesson plans and educational materials, to support our environmental learning goals. This role will focus on creating school-friendly resources for our website and collaborating with educators to enhance our offerings.
The role would include:
- Developing online learning resources for our website (on-going project)
- Designing or tailoring existing lesson plans and activities for schools
- Supporting the creation of ELWP’s Under 18s volunteering policy
- Supporting outreach efforts to promote ELWP’s existing learning programmes

Your support will help young people and learners improve their environmental knowledge of design and research as well as contributing to our community-owned park. This will in turn provide a sense of stewardship over the land once the park is created and student's ideas have been built into the park. Sembeza Africa provides Quality Physical Education (QPE) programs that empower youth and communities in Uganda, integrating sports with education, gender equality, and environmental sustainability.
Uganda’s youth face significant barriers, including limited access to quality education, early pregnancies, and a lack of inclusive opportunities for physical and personal development. With over 75% of the population under the age of 30, Uganda needs initiatives that address these challenges holistically. Physical education in many schools remains underdeveloped, leaving children without the critical skills for leadership, teamwork, and resilience. Furthermore, environmental degradation threatens the communities we serve, and gender inequality continues to limit opportunities for girls to participate in sports and education.
Sembeza Africa focuses on delivering Quality Physical Education (QPE) programs that promote physical activity as a foundation for learning and life skills. By integrating sports into education, we empower youth to build confidence, develop leadership abilities, and foster inclusivity. Our programs also incorporate elements of Traditional African Sports and Games (TASG) to preserve cultural heritage while making physical education more engaging. What is the Meet and Greet team?
If you love chatting with people and you’re looking for a relaxed role then this could be the perfect opportunity for you!
We’re looking for Meet & Greet volunteers to be on site during opening times to help visitors feel welcome, answer their questions, show them around if they wish and offer more information. The site can get busy but it isn’t always – during quiet times it’s a good opportunity to catch up on a book or potter in the community garden! Our lovely new, heated Welcome Cabin includes a sofa, computer, a tea/coffee station (and biscuits of course) and other amenities to ensure your comfort.
What can you expect from this role?
As a Meet and Greet volunteer you will:
- Be supported to use your people skills to ensure everyone feels welcome, helping to build a more caring community.
- Build your communication and customer service skills.
- Learn about the day to day workings of a varied community project.
- Signpost visitors around the physical site and also onto suitable local events and activities.
- Help visitors get involved – everything from signing up new volunteers to taking room booking enquiries or accepting donations.
- Help with some simple ‘pottering’ jobs that keep the site safe and beautiful – such as watering or litter picking.
- Be part of a friendly, welcoming team.

Are there opportunities to learn more, or take on more responsibility?
Absolutely! If you are able and interested, then there will be optional opportunities to broaden your responsibilities into the following (all training provided):
- Giving hire tours & inductions, helping to bring in income for the project
- Help with computer based admin such as social media, research, designing posters, or answering emails.
- Take part in a range of training in transferable skills, from Health and Safety and Fire Marshall training to safeguarding, dementia awareness, and more.
Once you have completed an agreed number of sessions with us, and completed your induction and any training required, we’ll also be happy to provide a reference to help with job applications.
What skills do you need for this role?
We’re looking for people who:
- Enjoy chatting to people and feel able to offer a friendly welcome
- Have a conversational level of English – you do not need perfect language skills!
- Would enjoy helping visitors find the information that they need.
- Are happy working with other volunteers in pairs or threes.
- Can commit to a two hour slot, ideally weekly but at least once per month.

About Care4Calais
Care4Calais is a volunteer-led charity delivering essential aid and support to people seeking asylum living in the UK and Northern France. We provide direct aid and advocate for a fair asylum system, including safe routes to claim asylum.
The UK Direct Aid team delivers essential support through practical services; such as running distributions, delivering English classes and casework-style support through drop-ins. The UK Direct Aid team also provides services to promote wellbeing such as trips and sports activities.
UK Area Lead Volunteer
We are looking for a compassionate, organised, and motivated Volunteer Area Leads to oversee a team of volunteers and the delivery of essential services and activities in their area. You must be committed to anti-racism and social justice, particularly for people seeking safety.

Are you passionate about singing and would like to empower others to use their voices in a choir? We are recruiting for a Choir Leader Volunteer at our Dame Gertrude Young House which supports men who have mental health needs. Choirs have shown to reduce stress levels and depression as well as creating a sense of togetherness. Your role will be to lead auditions to identify and pick out suitable choir members, provide necessary guidance and direction on tone, rhythm, pitch, tempo, and harmony as well as scheduling choir rehearsals.
Research suggests that music can stimulate the body’s natural feel-good chemicals. It can help energise our mood and provide an outlet for us to take control of our feelings. Singing is a powerful tool for bringing people together, reducing stress, and having fun.
Volunteering with Hestia will mean that you will play a key role in promoting strategies for positive wellbeing and recovery through music and singing!
What you will be doing
- Direct choir members in warm-ups prior to practices and performances
- Decide on appropriate musical pieces for the choir to perform depending on the occasion and setting and Choose individual choir members to perform solo pieces.
- Lead auditions to identify and pick out potentially suitable choir members.
- Build a structure, choir harmony, Determining voice types
- Provide necessary guidance and direction during choir rehearsals to help choir members in attaining the correct tone, rhythm, pitch, tempo, and harmony.
- Direct choir members during musical performances
- Schedule choir rehearsals
- Craft appropriate choir formations for rehearsals and performance
- Selects music to meet the needs of the performance while also taking into account the group's aptitude and abilities
The skills you need

Our vision is for a world in control of CO2 emissions - a fair social and economic approach that motivates and supports people and organisations to reduce their carbon footprints.
Our ultimate mission is to persuade people, business and government that together, we can take meaningful action using our Carbon Accounts framework. We are already demonstrating how this would work on the ground in local community action groups. We believe this will inspire governments to introduce the same mechanism to reach science-based emission reduction targets on a national basis.
What will you be doing?
We are a small, new charity with massive scope to make a difference in shifting the narrative on climate change where other organisations have failed. We are currently almost completely volunteer-led, with the exception of a freelance fundraiser. We would like to build up our trustee board and include trustees who are keen to drive us forward through their active involvement.
Our goal for the next 12 months is:
· to continue building our local group of activists who watch their carbon and ecological footprints
· to create a carbon labelling campaign, a carbon trading group, a carbon footprint and Carbon Accounts app
· to foster recognition from local businesses and government
· to create a blueprint which can be adopted in other locations
We want to spread the movement far and wide, to promote public, business, academic and political acceptance of carbon budgets, carbon trading and our Carbon Accounts approach by demonstrating how and why it works, and running communications and fundraising campaigns.
There are many practical activities you could also help with beyond trustee responsibilities, not in any order, for example workshop facilitation, managing volunteers, fundraising, carbon emissions data and spreadsheets, writing or journalism on sustainability, social media, photography or videography.... Skills and experience in any will be helpful.
What are we looking for?

As a Gardening & Grounds volunteer you will be helping to maintain the flower beds and grounds around the Visitor Centre and our two AirBnB properties on site to a high standard, ensuring that we maintain a diverse habitat for nature and that our visitors and guests enjoy their visits.
This role involves:
- Assisting with the maintenance and development of the gardens and grounds around the visitor centre and car park;
- Seasonal planting, pruning and harvesting of flower beds;
- Weeding areas, where necessary;
- Mowing set areas when required;
- Welcoming and engaging visitors;
- Keeping up to date with the work of WWT and Welney and sharing that with visitors

About You
This role will suit you if:
You have a can-do attitude, are happy to help us in all weathers, and are both a practical person and physically fit. Having enthusiasm and experience in gardening would be helpful, but a willingness to use and develop skills in the hand tools and equipment we provide is more important. You’ll receive clear direction, however, the ability to work under your own initiative and being self-motivated is also needed. Having, or being happy to develop, the confidence to engage our visitors with the work of WWT is also a key part of this role.
