About us:

At Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice, we support babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions.  Our aim is to reach every family that needs our help and to offer them the very best choice of care. Every year we need to raise £6.7m to keep our doors open and only around 17% of our income comes from government sources, the rest must be raised through fundraising activity. Our uncompromisable support services are wide ranging and bespoke to each family and include overnight care, music therapy, counselling, sibling support groups, end of life care and home visits.  
 
We support families from a large geographical area, including South Yorkshire, North Nottinghamshire, North Derbyshire and parts of North Lincolnshire. The hospice is easily accessible from Barnsley, Rotherham, Doncaster, Sheffield and North Notts. We have free secure on-site parking for families and staff to use. 

The role:

We are looking for an enthusiastic Senior Cook, passionate about quality food, excellent customer service and with a genuine connection to the families we support.

Reporting to the Head of Facilities & Estate you will lead the catering team, have experience of working with children and families who have complex needs, offering menu choices that meet their individual requirements.

If you have previous catering and/or kitchen management experience with a relevant catering qualification (NHD, HCIMA) or equivalent and have the ability to provide strong leadership skills, we’d love to hear from you. 

The requirements:

To fulfil the role effectively you should have the following skills, experience and qualifications:

• Familiarity of catering for differing dietary and cultural needs, with a good knowledge of using seasonal and donated food
• Demonstratable knowledge of food hygiene regulation
• Experience of front-line work with members of the public
• Experience of catering for children and adults with special dietary requirements
• Experience of working with and supporting volunteers
• Ability to take initiative to deal with day-to-day issues
• Great interpersonal skills, a passion for hospitality, and able to demonstrate understanding of, and empathy with, the hospice sector

About the Role

Are you someone who thrives on helping others, solving problems, and making a tangible difference in people’s lives? We’re looking for a committed and empathetic Student Advisor to join the Advice Service team at the University of Manchester Students’ Union (UMSU).

In this vital role, you’ll provide free, independent, and confidential advice to students across a range of key areas. Whether it’s supporting someone through an academic appeal, navigating complex housing issues, managing financial hardship, or dealing with personal challenges, your role is to ensure students feel heard, informed, and empowered to take the next steps.

You’ll be part of a small, dedicated team working in a busy, varied environment that puts student wellbeing at the heart of everything we do.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver One-to-One Support: Provide impartial, confidential advice on academic concerns (appeals, complaints, disciplinaries), housing issues, financial support, and personal or welfare-related challenges.
• Support in Crisis: Offer guidance and emotional support to students experiencing difficult or distressing circumstances, such as mental health issues, harassment, or financial insecurity.
• Create and Share Resources: Develop accessible self-help materials (articles, videos, workshops) to empower students and reduce reliance on one-to-one services.
• Promote the Service: Take part in outreach activities, including campaigns, events, and training, to raise awareness and improve access to advice and support.
• Track and Report Issues: Use our case management system to record casework clearly and securely, and help monitor trends in student issues to inform future campaigns.
• Collaborate and Contribute: Work closely with colleagues across UMSU to support key periods like Welcome Week and elections, contributing to a supportive and inclusive student experience.

The role

This is a fantastic opportunity to utilise your educational skills, in a natural environment, whilst engaging young people,  as well as our local communities.  You will have a background and passion for teaching and engaging a range of audiences, to learn about the importance of our rivers, together with the ecosystems that survive and thrive around them.  You will have a hands on approach, with the ability to design, develop and deliver a range of educational activities to suit your varying audiences.  You will enjoy having time working independently to create your teaching sessions, either in an office environment or at home, as well as being outside, delivering your teaching or activities.

Whilst you will predominately cover the Surrey catchment area, you will be happy and flexible to work anywhere within the south east, together with some degree of flexibility with the hours that you work, so that events can be held on occasional evenings and weekends.  Your time will be spent at home developing your sessions, delivering a range of activities such as guided walks or talks, as well as hands on activities in and around a river, or educational events.
