The Museum Manager is responsible to the Board of Trustees for the overall operational management of Haslemere Education Museum. OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE

Beacon, now in its second decade of operation, has experienced substantial growth over the last three years, including an organisational rebrand and expansion into international projects. We are now recruiting a Senior Patient and Scientific Engagement Officer to play a central role in delivering ambitious projects that put patients at the heart of translational research.

This role sits at the crossroads of patient involvement and scientific communication, building meaningful collaborations between patients, researchers, and other stakeholders. You’ll provide essential operational support and subject expertise to ensure projects run smoothly and reflect the real-world needs of the rare disease community.

You will contribute primarily to two of Beacon’s major collaborative initiatives: REMEDi4ALL, a European-wide drug repurposing platform with over 25 partner organisations, and the LifeArc Translational Research Centres for Rare Disease (LifeArc TrC4RD), a UK-wide partnership. In this role, you will work directly and regularly with partners across these consortia, encompassing patient group leaders, patient representatives, academic researchers, clinical trialists, and beyond. You will act as a vital interface between patients and researchers in both projects, coordinating activities, facilitating collaboration, and embedding patient perspectives throughout the work. While these will be your main focus, you will also support other initiatives across the charity, particularly those aimed at advancing scientific understanding of rare diseases and strengthening patient involvement in research.

This is a varied position offering the chance to apply and further develop your expertise across areas such as patient and public involvement, scientific content development, training, and stakeholder engagement. We are looking for someone with a strong grasp of both the scientific and patient landscapes, who can balance attention to detail with big-picture awareness and work confidently in highly collaborative settings with multiple partner organisations. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Your main responsibilities will span aspects of project delivery, stakeholder engagement, and patient-centred scientific support. In this role, you will:

• Support the delivery of Beacon’s work within REMEDi4ALL and the LifeArc TrC4RD, collaborating directly with partners across these consortia to coordinate activities and ensure timely delivery of shared goals.
• Assist in the preparation of project materials, reports, and updates for consortium meetings and communications.
• Write, review, and refine accessible, patient-facing materials that explain complex scientific concepts and research projects clearly.
• Help design and deliver patient engagement strategies for major collaborative projects, ensuring patient perspectives are embedded throughout.
• Support and liaise with REMEDi4ALL Patient Champions and the LifeArc Patient Engagement Group, including coordinating mentorship, facilitating input into project teams, and managing communications.
•  Build and maintain strong working relationships with patient advocates, researchers, funders, and partner organisations, ensuring clear communication and effective collaboration.
• Contribute to the planning and delivery of multi-stakeholder meetings, workshops, and webinars that bring together patients, researchers, and other partners to discuss research priorities and approaches.
• Support the creation and delivery of training materials, sessions, and talks for patient groups, researchers, and other stakeholders on topics such as patient and public involvement (PPIE) and rare disease research.
• Participate in project discussions to understand current patient engagement and provide input or signposting to improve engagement and support.

 PERSON SPECIFICATION

This is a mid-to-senior level role. Candidates should have professional experience in scientific engagement, patient involvement, or research coordination, and be ready to contribute confidently to collaborative consortium projects with external partners.

The Scientific and Medical Network (SMN) is an educational charity that challenges the adequacy of scientific materialism by exploring the frontiers of science, consciousness, and spirituality. SMN produces webinars, online conferences, and a regular journal, Paradigm Explorer, aimed at academics, educational professionals, students, and the general public.

We need another member of the accounts team who can dedicate the time to fortify our accounts team and help with operational processes, and with organisational development.

Role Overview: This is a hands-on systems development role that combines operational financial administration with organisational development. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the existing bookkeeper to further bring order and clarity to SMN's financial processes while building a coherent framework within its new Chart of Accounts, that can accommodate the organisation's growing interconnected projects.

The role focuses on improvements such as new invoicing processes, streamlining payment workflows, and resolving banking issues - while helping to develop the systems and structures needed for long-term financial clarity and governance compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

Practical priorities

• Help new weekly payables cycle, working closely with Bookkeeper and Director with financial oversight 
• Organise invoices from various projects, determining their place in the overall financial structure
• Initiate payments via CAF, PayPal, and other systems, 
• Manage banking relationships with Barclays and CAF, maintaining efficient access and reporting
• Maintain banking mandates and ensure record-keeping remains clear, up-to-date, and efficient
• Support General Manager with hands-on financial operations and day-to-day payment processing

Financial Structure Development

• Help to implement and refine new Chart of Accounts with SMN Bookkeeper focusing on clear reporting

The purpose of this role is to support the research team with business as usual (BAU) administrative tasks. This role will not require formal scientific qualifications and the core focus is to help the Research Team deliver their mission more efficiently. The charity’s goal is to spend 50% of all income on research, this presents exciting opportunities to the Research team but ensuring this is spent on world class research which is independently peer reviewed by international experts is a complex process.

The role will involve organising Scientific Advisory Board meetings (flights, hotels, restaurants, meeting rooms, expenses), email and letter writing (award letters,), organising ad hoc meetings and associated travel, arranging training sessions (Grant Tracker), assisting with organising Team days and QoL sandpit organisation. This role will require working across the whole Research Team providing administrative support as required, balancing priorities and liaising with other Teams within the charity.

This role sits within our Research team, reporting into the Head of Research. Our Research team is responsible for shaping, funding, and evaluating research that will drive our vision of people diagnosed with Brain Tumours living longer and better lives.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Support the organisation of external research meetings such as Scientific Advisory Board meetings and meetings with researchers, including arranging travel, accommodation and meeting space
• Organise internal research team meetings, including taking minutes and circulating agendas

Guidelines Manager
Contract: Fixed-term contract, 6 months
Salary: Up to £45,000 (depending on experience) 
Place of Work: BSH Headquarters, 100 White Lion Street, London, N1 9PF (hybrid working, 2 days per week in the office)
Hours: Full-time, 35 hours (normally 9am-5pm, with an hour unpaid for lunch)

The British Society for Haematology (BSH) is the largest UK multidisciplinary Haematology Society with over 3,000 members. Our activities include running education events and courses (including our flagship Annual Scientific Meeting held in April), producing guidelines, awarding grants, and raising the profile of haematology.

The role of the BSH Guidelines is to provide haematologists with up-to-date advice on the diagnosis and treatment of haematological disease and also on laboratory haematology practice, primarily by the production of evidence-based guidelines.

The co-ordination and commissioning of the required guidelines is carried out by 4 task forces, each responsible for a specialist area; blood transfusion, haemostasis & thrombosis, haemato-oncology and general haematology. It is also the responsibility of each task force group to ensure that guidelines are reviewed regularly and updated as appropriate on the BSH website. BSH Guidelines is overseen by an Executive Committee which consists of a Chair and Vice-Chair of BSH Guidelines and the Chairs of each of the four Task Forces.

Each Task Force will have between 10 - 15 guidelines in production or review at any one time, with an average of 2 - 3 being published each year (approximately 10 - 12 in total). The guidelines are written by nominated writing groups with members of the Task Force taking responsibility to ensure they are written to the correct standards and specification. The finished guidelines are usually published in the British Journal of Haematology and are made freely available on the BSH website. Each Task Force will meet 3 - 4 times a year to discuss the progress of the guidelines and any other pertinent business.

This is a six-month, full-time role to cover an extended period of staff absence. We are looking for someone to cover the role but we’re looking for someone who can do more than just maintain the status quo. We want a dynamic individual who will actively engage with the role, bring fresh ideas, and look for ways to develop and improve the work. About the role

About the Degrees Initiative  

The Degrees Initiative is a UK-based NGO that builds the capacity of developing countries to evaluate solar radiation modification geoengineering (SRM), a controversial proposal for reducing some impacts of climate change by reflecting sunlight away from the Earth. Degrees is neutral on whether SRM should ever be used, but we believe that developing countries should be empowered to conduct their own research and to play a central role in SRM discussions. The initiative has been working in different forms for over a decade, and our work receives worldwide coverage and widespread acclaim. 

This is a unique opportunity to inform conversations on SRM in Asia, including the Pacific Islands. Rather than lobbying for outcomes, Degrees aims to support informed, independent policymaking by fostering connections between researchers and policymakers and strengthening institutional expertise. Degrees promotes regional research, creates spaces for policy-science dialogue, and supports the dissemination of Global South research.

Responsibilities 

The Policy and Engagement Manager, Asia and the Pacific Islands will strengthen the voice of the Global South in discussions and potential negotiations on SRM research and governance with relevance to Asia by connecting experts to policy processes. Accordingly, the successful candidate will: 

• Identify and engage key policy actors (e.g. national delegates and legislators, scientific advisors, intergovernmental officials) in Asia and the Pacific Islands, connecting them to local SRM experts and providing them with information, where appropriate, while remaining neutral regarding the potential use and governance of SRM; 

• Work with SRM researchers from the region to support the creation of a coordinated community of experts; 

• Build informal and formal partnerships with like-minded organisations, helping to inform discussions and counter misinformation about climate and SRM 

• Share expertise and experience gained from Asia and the Pacific Islands with staff and researchers and participate, as appropriate, in activities in Africa and Latin America and the Caribbean to gain similar expertise; 

• Identify the most impactful international forums and regional SRM discussions, and work to connect local experts into these; 

• Support the execution and coordination of the Degrees policy engagement strategy in collaboration with other policy and programmatic staff; 

• Contribute to budgeting and alignment with programmes; 

• Support monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL) activities by contributing to tracking, documentation, and reporting of policy engagement outcomes; 

• Identify a core group of researchers interested in policy engagement, and facilitate and join their participation in governance fora such as the UNFCCC COP, UN Environment Assembly, and meetings of the UN Convention on Biological Diversity; 

• In cooperation with the communications staff, ensure the development of clear, contextualised briefing materials for policy makers and other audiences. 

The way people are accessing support is evolving and we need to ensure that we are developing support services that reflect the complex needs of a brain tumour diagnosis using a range of platforms - from a traditional phone line service to innovative, engaging and instant solutions.

Supporting children, young adults and their families - from those who are looking for general information about treatment or care, to those who need more detailed support from the point of diagnosis, you will be passionate about improving the lives of those affected by a brain tumour. You will be comfortable providing support and information across different channels; capable at breaking down complex, scientific information in an accessible and personalised manner; and committed to developing pioneering resources to support our community in smarter ways.

You’ll be able to work collaboratively, supporting the work of the Children & Families and Young Adults Team, in addition to assisting on our Adults Team.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Provide specialist emotional and practical support and information to people affected by brain tumours, their friends, families and carers through a variety of solutions including phone, email, webchat, online and social media plus new evolving channels

• Provide high quality information which reflects the most up to date research, clinical information and treatments, in a way people can understand. Conducting the research yourself and adapting your communication to suit the person you are supporting is key

• Offer coaching guidance to empower individuals, helping them to achieve the appropriate next steps

• Plan and facilitate online and in person events for families, teenagers and young adults

• Lead on aspects of cross team projects and develop new resources that meet our community’s needs, while collaborating with other teams and external partners

• Provide support to our Young Ambassadors through coordinating activities and check ins, facilitating meetings, and enabling meaningful input into our Young Adults Service.

• Identify gaps in knowledge across the Support Team and identify possible training areas

• Developing information for our website and other age-appropriate resources, for example, writing initial drafts and reviewing information

• Day to day management of our online peer support platforms, for example our Facebook group for parents of children with a brain tumour diagnosis

• Work in conjunction with the Volunteer Development Manager to recruit, train and manage volunteers who assist in delivering support services

• Update and maintain accurate contact information on the CRM database, producing data reports as required to evidence the impact and reach of our support services

• Identify, manage and escalate safeguarding concerns in line with The Charity guidelines

• Review day to day tasks across the Support Team

The Food Policy Officer role:

Coeliac UK is looking for a skilled and motivated Food Policy Officer to support the charity’s activities in relation to food information with a focus on maintaining Coeliac UK’s food standards and monitoring the catering accreditation scheme. As Food Policy Officer and part of our Evidence and Policy team, you will support the charity’s mission of supporting our community to have access to gluten free food and manage a gluten free lifestyle safely. Key responsibilities of the Food Policy Officer:

• Monitor Coeliac UK’s gluten free catering accreditation scheme including reviewing audit reports, feedback and corrective actions.
• Work alongside the Commercial team to assist caterers in their preparation for Coeliac UK’s gluten free accreditation scheme
• To work with the Head of Food Policy in the development and review of food policy to draft policy positions and to contribute to the necessary intelligence gathering, horizon scanning and consultations to represent the charity.
• Provide administration for Coeliac UK’s Food Standards Committee
• Contribute to food research in order to develop the evidence base in the area of food and the gluten free diet
• Attend meetings with caterers and manufacturers working with Coeliac UK
• To represent and promote the work of the charity amongst stakeholders from the food sector and speaking at food events.
• Manage the creation of quarterly reports

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience required for the Food Policy Officer:

We’re looking for a positive and confident person with excellent organisation and communication skills. The ideal candidate will have:

• Experience in quality assurance, food technology and nutrition
• Understanding of scientific evidence base and research
