We are seeking two passionate and affective advocates for the arts to join Nottingham Playhouse’s Board of Trustees.
Awarded Theatre of the Year 2025 in The Stage awards, Nottingham Playhouse is one of the country’s leading producing theatres, creating work that’s bold, thrilling and proudly made in Nottingham. Our wide-reaching participation programmes create life-changing experiences for our community and we also support the next generation of theatre-makers in the East Midlands through our extensive artist development programme.
As a registered charity, all of the funds we raise help to ensure we’re reaching as many people as possible to give them new opportunities and create lasting memories.
We are now seeking two new Trustees to join our Board. To complement the specialisms of our current governance, we are particularly seeking applicants with specialisms in the following areas:
- Legal
- HR
- Accountancy
- Governance
- Theatre producing
- Health and safety
- Business experience
- Property
The Board meets six times a year in Nottingham, and each Trustee also attends at least one subgroup, which meet bimonthly or quarterly. Reasonable expenses for attending Board meetings will be offered. Trustees are also expected to attend press nights for each in-house production and support other Nottingham Playhouse activities and Participation programmes whenever possible.
The attributes we are seeking in potential Trustees include:
- Strategic thinking
- Good independent judgement
- An interest in theatre with an understanding of Nottingham Playhouse’s work
- A commitment to seeing Nottingham Playhouse’s produced work and activities
- A willingness to share your field of expertise and facilitate introductions with wider networks
- A commitment to Equal Opportunities
- A willingness to devote the necessary time and effort required
These are unpaid, non-executive roles and applicants should be passionate and effective advocates for the arts. If you are willing and able to commit your time and expertise to proactively support Nottingham Playhouse, we would love to hear from you.

Our current Lay trustee demits in December 2025, and we are seeking a successor who is not from a clinical background but shares our values and vision This is an opportunity to bring your expertise to help shape HIS’s future, ensuring strong governance and supporting our ambitions for growth.
As a Lay Trustee, you will:
- Work with the Council and Chief Executive to uphold HIS’s vision, mission and values. Council meets quarterly.
- Work with Chief Financial Officer and serve on the Finance Committee, which meets quarterly to review financial performance, remuneration, and strategic and operational risks.
- Contribute to delivering the 2025-30 strategy.
- Oversee compliance with financial, legal and regulatory requirements.
No prior trustee experience is necessary – a full induction will be provided.

Manchester Relief in Need CIO are looking for new Trustees to join their Board of Trustees. Manchester Relief in Need CIO is a registered charity (charity number 1197146) resulting from a merger of four charities in December 2021.
The Charity provides grants to both individuals in need or local charities who provide services within the Manchester area.
We are now looking to appoint new Trustees to join the current Board of Trustees. We would particularly welcome people from a support worker background or who are working with people in need at a grass roots level.

About the roles
We’re looking for up to three new trustees to join our board from January 2026. Fully remote participation is possible.
You'll use your expertise to help the Lab be more effective and impactful, while gaining insights into our work and experience of charity governance and leadership. During 2026, there may also be an opportunity to take on the role of Chair, co-Chair, or Vice Chair.
All roles are voluntary, with reasonable expenses reimbursed, including childcare or other caring costs if this is needed to attend meetings.
Who are we looking for?
We’re looking in particular for people with experience in:

Financial sector policy: at the Lab, we work to change the policies and rules which shape and govern the financial system, so it can deliver more socially, economically and environmentally just outcomes. Do you have experience developing, influencing or driving government policy, legislation or regulation for the financial sector? This could be either from within or outside the mechanisms of power. Could you help us to achieve our goals?

Communications: effective communications are key to our work, and an area where we're looking to grow and improve. If you've got experience in media or digital comms, and would be willing to support and mentor the team as we develop our skills and capacity, we'd love to hear from you.

Fundraising: the majority of our funding currently comes from trusts and foundation grants, plus we’re working on building our earned income streams. In future we’d also like to explore individual giving. Do you have relevant experience in these areas you’d enjoy sharing?

However, previous experience of serving on a board of trustees is not required, and we provide training and mentoring on fulfilling the obligations required of a trustee.

What’s involved:
- Board meetings – four per year
- Committees – the option to join at least one, to focus on specific areas
- Working groups - sometimes short-term ‘task and finish’ or working groups for particular projects
- Preparation - reading papers in advance and contributing actively to discussions
- Ambassadorship - staying connected with our work between meetings, championing Storyhouse in your own networks. Most of the year the rhythm of meetings is regular, but during extraordinary moments — like a leadership change or major challenge — Trustees may be asked to give a little more time and support.
