Northumberland Domestic Abuse Service

NDAS provides support to all victims who have been the subject of domestic abuse/violence, supports them through the criminal justice system and offers relevant advice and assistance, both practical and emotional. 

NDAS empowers victims to make decisions, increase their options, their confidence and safety.  Prevention and awareness raising activities are also delivered across Northumberland and counselling to the children of our service users.

Established in 2003, NDAS has a track record of providing excellent services and is a key member of domestic abuse provision in Northumberland.  We have a secure financial foundation and are looking forward to developing our team to continue to provide essential services in tackling domestic abuse.

This is a key role within NDAS managing our operational delivery team working across the county.  We are looking for a motivated professional who is passionate about delivering the best possible prevention and support services.

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB

To provide practical and emotional support to victims of domestic abuse/violence; including supporting them through the criminal justice system and providing guidance and assistance.  The role also involves empowering victims to make decisions, increase their options, their confidence and safety.

DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Managing service delivery and performance

Provide an efficient, effective outreach service to all victims of domestic abuse/violence across Northumberland.

Establish the risks and the needs of the individual and deliver a service appropriate to that level of risk.

Develop and deliver individual support and risk management plans to address the risk of harm to victims.

Work with multi-agency partnerships with local agencies whose services victims may require, ensuring a coordinated community response.

Work in partnership with other agencies and to advocate for victims to ensure their needs are met.

Explain the intricacies of the criminal justice and family court systems to victims and give advice on how to proceed at different stages of the process.

Ensure that victims are aware of their rights to legal protection and to arrange for the provision of legal advice as required and accompany victims to appointments if appropriate.

Ensure the safety of the victim is paramount.

Attend MARAC meetings when needed, Case Conference, Core Groups and CAF meetings when required.

Liaise with other agencies as appropriate. Deliver training to colleagues and other professionals.

Work within Northumberland Domestic Abuse Services management system following all policies and procedures.

Provide statistical monitoring or reports as required to the planning officer.

Note and feedback to other agencies any consistent difficulties clients are having accessing their service.

Provide a service, which is sensitive to all cultural and other differences and needs.

Ensure that the views and experiences of the victims and agencies are sought actively and inform the development of the service.

Report any problems/difficulties/complaints to the Team Manager or CEO and participate in follow up investigations as required.

Managing Security

Maintain the security and well-being of victims of domestic abuse and to communicate immediately with the Team Manager/CEO any concerns regarding security.

Maintain confidentiality, professional boundaries and security, when working with service users, staff and external bodies.

General Duties

Contribute to the overall development of Northumberland Domestic Abuse Services, by attending team meetings and participate in training and development working groups as agreed by the post-holder and CEO. This will include training specific to working with victims of domestic abuse.

Contribute to the overall development of Northumberland Domestic Abuse Services, by the implementation of Northumberland Domestic Abuse Services. Develop effective and supporting working relationships with all Northumberland Domestic Abuse Services staff.

Contribute to the overall development of Northumberland Domestic Abuse Services, by adhering to Northumberland Domestic Abuse Services policies and procedures including equal opportunities and health and safety when meeting the needs of service users. Assist in and maintain effective communication, which promotes free flow of non-confidential information and issues within Northumberland Domestic Abuse Services, other agencies and members of the public.

Ensure that security of sensitive information is maintained and complies with the requirements of the Data Protection Act 1998.

We are looking for an experienced Finance Partner to provide family leave cover until September 2026.  This is an exciting opportunity to work within a well established team, providing finance and business support to Heads of Department within our Communities and System Partnerships division, and their teams.

You will be monitoring the budget that the teams invest in grants that are awarded to the external partners with whom Macmillan works to support people living with cancer. This investment funds established roles such as Macmillan Clinical Nurse Specialists and Macmillan Support Workers, as well as new, innovative ways to reach minority groups in the community or to lead whole system change for cancer care. 

You will be working with the teams to accurately forecast their full year expenditure, maintain the latest view of their spend for the year and review the monthly management accounts to highlight and investigate variances.

You will work closely with a Senior Finance Business Partner and other Finance Partners mainly online and through occasional in person get-togethers. Wider Finance team meetings are held face to face quarterly in London.

In partnership with senior leadership, the Media and Communications Manager will oversee the design and implementation of STOPAIDS' organisational-wide media and communications strategy that amplifies STOPAIDS’ impact and reputation across our key advocacy areas. The Media and Communications Manager will support STOPAIDS and our joint advocacy projects to achieve our advocacy objectives through identifying strategic media opportunities, managing relationships with media outlets, and securing external media coverage. They will also work with staff and partners to develop relevant high-quality media products and to develop and manage online communications content for our key social media and website platforms.

As a capable team leader, the Media and Communications Manager provides expert guidance to staff and partners, is comfortable coordinating and facilitating working groups and supports the leadership of people living with and affected by HIV. They also work with the Senior Leadership Team to ensure that media and communications strategies are aligned and complementary with other organisational strategies and priorities.

As with all STOPAIDS staff, and in partnership with the CEO and the Director for Development & Engagement, they will work to ensure the sustainability of the organisation by contributing 10% of their time to fundraising (to support with application and report writing) and other advocacy support.

The role has a six-month probation period.

About the role

We're looking for a dynamic, relationship-focused, and highly organised individual to oversee our teaching programmes, school partnerships, and tutor network.

This role is crucial to ensuring our programmes are high-quality, well-managed, and meeting the needs of schools. You will be the first point of contact for schools, building strong relationships with headteachers and SENCOs, and ensuring that we offer the right support at the right time.

You will manage our team of tutors, ensuring they have the resources, training, and support needed to deliver our programmes to the highest standard. You will also oversee safeguarding and the measurement of programme impact, working closely with the fundraiser to ensure we have strong data for funding applications.

If you have experience in education, relationship building, programme management, or charity leadership, and you’re passionate about ensuring all children get the support they need, this role is for you.

Key responsibilities

School relationships and programme development (account management) 

• Develop and maintain strong relationships with schools and other stakeholders, ensuring our programmes align with their needs.
• Be proactive in identifying opportunities for growth, understanding school funding challenges, and positioning Quest for Learning as a key partner.
• Stay abreast of educational trends, school funding pressures, and local needs, using this market intelligence to shape programme delivery and ensure our offer remains relevant, impactful, and responsive to the challenges schools and pupils face.
• Support marketing efforts by sharing impact stories, case studies, and insights from schools.

Tutor management and quality assurance

Safeguarding (Designated Safeguarding Lead - DSL)

• Act as the DSL for Quest for Learning (once trained) with support from the Chief Executive as Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead, ensuring all safeguarding policies and processes are followed.
• Train tutors in best safeguarding practices and ensure incidents are properly reported and recorded.
• Liaise with schools and external agencies where necessary. 

Impact measurement & fundraising support

• Ensure a strong framework of assessment and impact measurement for pupils and our programmes.
• Analyse and collate data on programme effectiveness, reporting to the team.
• Work with the fundraiser to provide teaching-related content for funding bids and reports.

Person specification

Essential:

• Strong experience in account management, partnerships, or relationship management (preferably in education or the charity sector).
• Experience working in education or service delivery (e.g. as a teacher, tutor, or programme manager).
• Strong pedagogical knowledge and the ability to support tutors with teaching-related queries.
• Excellent people skills, able to build relationships with schools, tutors, and funders.
• Highly organised and proactive, with strong project management skills.

About the role

Our Participation and Involvement Manager will build on existing practice across the organisation and lead on the implementation and further development of a participation and involvement framework, enabling a large and diverse range of kinship carers to share their views and expertise meaningfully, safely and effectively to shape Kinship’s activity. It will also support our growing participation and involvement activity which involves children, young people and young adults with experience of growing up in kinship care.

You will work closely with kinship carers and colleagues across the organisation to understand the key challenges and opportunities with embedding participatory methods, including co-production and co-design, which improve Kinship’s work – right from the design and delivery of our advice and support services through to influencing policy and campaigning for change.

With support from colleagues, you will act as the key cross-organisational adviser on participation and involvement practice, supporting and empowering colleagues to develop the skills and knowledge they need to embed a consistent approach to the involvement of kinship carers to best suit the needs of their roles.

As an enthusiastic and engaging facilitator, and an advocate for participatory methods, you will sensitively and skillfully work alongside kinship carers and colleagues to deliver high quality involvement activity which supports the charity’s mission and aims. You will also be an experienced project manager, ensuring all activity is appropriately monitored and evaluated, and aligned with best practice around equality and diversity, remuneration, safeguarding and governance.

Key responsibilities include:

• Refine and further develop an existing organisational participation and involvement framework which supports staff to meaningfully, safely and effectively involve kinship carers in their work.
• Design and implement a plan to embed effective practice based on the framework across Kinship, building a positive organisational culture and providing appropriate training, upskilling and support to colleagues to ensure consistency of delivery and experience for kinship carers.
• Lead a cross-organisational working group of people with relevant lived, learned and professional experiences to support and advise on embedding high-quality participation and involvement activity.
• Work closely with colleagues across the whole organisation to understand their bespoke needs, strengths and requirements around implementing participatory methods in their day-to-day work, and develop strategic relationships with colleagues in areas with more extensive existing participatory or adjacent activity (e.g. research, volunteering).
• Develop and recruit a network of people with lived experience interested in being more intensively involved in participatory activities, with a focus on increasing the diversity of people working with us.

Essential experience includes:

• Experience managing and leading the delivery of participation or involvement activity with people with lived experience of social issues.
• A commitment to meaningful participation and involvement activity, including a nuanced understanding of the individual and organisational opportunities and challenges associated with this.
• Knowledge of models, methodologies and approaches used in high quality participation and involvement activity, and strong skills in creative facilitation – particularly with groups.
• An understanding of kinship care and how this may impact on kinship carers’ involvement with Kinship and our activity.
• Experience of effective project management with strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Overall Responsibility

With the assistance of a small Finance Team and applying high standards, to support the Director of Finance by managing the day-to-day accounting and transaction processing activity for the and it’s trading subsidiary. To take direct and specific responsibility for Payroll and VAT.

Detailed Responsibilities:

i. Integrity of Prime Transactions: To ensure the high-quality routines and procedures are in place and applied by the Finance Team to maintain accurate accounting records of all transactions using Quick Books Online (or any replacement financial system) and delivered to meet the Reporting & Meeting timetable.

ii. Monthly Payroll: With payroll data provided by the SMT and other managers, the Payroll Bureau (Access) and other stakeholders, to carry out all routines and procedures to maintain accurate and payroll processing in accordance with a rigid delivery timetable i.e.

• Payroll Processing for both fixed Salaries and variable Casual Wages (timesheets)

• Payroll Payments and Payslip Delivery to all employees

• Reporting and payments to HMRC: monthly and annually in accordance with published statutory timetable.

• To manage the payment of pension contributions and other employee deductions & benefits.

• Other Payroll administration and compliance e.g. for Joiners and Leavers

iii. VAT: To accurately reconcile, complete and submit quarterly/annual returns and associated payments in accordance with established timetables and reflecting partial exemption as appropriate. To liaise with the HMRC as and when required. To advise internally on technical VAT issues.

iv. Fixed Assets: To ensure the Fixed Asset schedules are maintained and reconciled on a quarterly basis with the General Ledger.

v. Control Accounts: To reconcile all control accounts on a rolling monthly basis and at least once a quarter, in accordance with the Accounting Check-list, and to resolve any differences.

vi. Internal Control: To ensure, as far as practical, that a diversification of duties exists within the finance team to afford adequate protection of the company’s assets and that all approvals and payments are made in accordance with the approved Authorisation Structure.

We are working in partnership with Emmaus Village Carlton (EVC), a flagship Emmaus community, who give hope and a sense of belonging to those who have experienced homelessness or social exclusion by creating a safe and supported community and opportunities to develop. They are a respected local charity and social enterprise with a unique self-funded model, and capacity for up to 45 Companions to live and gain work experience on site, who are supported by the staff team and volunteers.

They are now seeking a new Head of Finance, who will be a pro-active member of the Senior Leadership Team and actively contribute to the smooth running and ongoing development of the organisation. The Head of Finance will provide effective leadership of the financial management of EVC, across both the social enterprise and charitable objectives, as well as overseeing administrative and IT support, working closely with the IT support provider and the Administration Assistant to achieve good operational performance.
