Fundraising Assistant

Contract: Permanent, part-time (21 hours per week)

This is a part-time post, 21 hours per week to be worked on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Hybrid working available, with a requirement to be in the Battersea office 1 to 2 days per week.

BookTrust is the UK's largest children's reading charity. You’ll be responsible for responding to fundraising enquiries across multiple channels including phone, email, and print, thanking supporters, collating campaign results and providing an exceptional experience to our supporters. You will ensure that all donor details are accurate and kept up to date on our CRM (Microsoft Dynamics).

About the role of Finance Manager

The Finance Manager is a core member of WCC's management team and is a key advisor and partner to the CEO on all areas of finance.  The post-holder will have responsibility for timely and efficient management of the day-to-day accounting function and all internal and external financial reporting.  Reporting directly to the CEO this role is part of a friendly, highly productive and collaborative, dedicated clinical and operational staff team of ten.

Role Purpose

Southwark Cathedral has been a place of Christian worship for over 1400 years. This is a key role at Southwark Cathedral supporting the Dean. This secretarial role will primarily feature management of a busy personal diary, correspondence and broader administrative support for the Dean in his capacity as Dean of Southwark, Chair of Chapter and CEO of the Cathedral.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

• Lead the coordination, preparation, planning and follow up for the Dean’s briefing for and attendance at meetings associated with the governance of the Cathedral including Chapter, Finance Committee, Audit & Risk Committee, Nominations Committee, Fabric Advisory Committee and Board of Enterprises. This will include research and assisting in the drafting and review of papers for such meetings, but minute taking will not usually be required (but may be requested from time to time in liaison with members of staff usually responsible for the minutes);
• Support the Dean in all their working relationships including building and maintaining excellent relationships with Chapter Members and Committee Members, the Bishop’s staff and with the wider Diocese, as well as with neighbours, commercial partners, professional advisers and other third-party organisations relating to the Dean’s work;

Terms and Conditions

Working Hours

The working hours shall be 21 hours per week (exclusive of meal breaks), usually over three days. Some out of hours working will be required to support meetings and events and this will be notified in advance. Time off in lieu will be awarded in line with Southwark Cathedral’s policy.

Annual Leave

20.5 days per annum including statutory bank holidays, with an additional 5 days (pro-rata) after 10 years’ service. 

Probation

The appointment is subject to the satisfactory completion of a six-month probationary period.

Season Ticket Loan

Once the probationary period has been completed satisfactorily, the person appointed will be eligible to take out a season ticket loan.

Pension

The person appointed will be eligible to join a defined contributions pension scheme managed by the Church Workers Pension Fund. The Cathedral will contribute half of the annual premium of 10% of salary.

Working Expenses

Reasonable out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed.

Location: The role is based from FIGO House, Waterloo, London SE1 with 'blended / hybrid working' i.e. with combined office and remote working.

This role is based at our centre a short walk from Clapham Common tube station, in London. We support homeless people from the local area and further afield. Our services are open access, so the people who come to the Ace of Clubs are diverse and from multiple walks of life. Consequently their needs can be complex, so we are looking for a skilled communicator who can support people, many of who live chaotic lifestyles. Our purpose at the Ace of Clubs is to address people’s basic human needs by providing food, clothing, toiletries, and practical support. We help people link up with housing, healthcare, education, and employment. Our Support Workers work to help individuals overcome barriers to achieving wellbeing, whether it be through guidance in the support system, learning new skills or supporting service users to build the confidence and skills to enable them to navigate their life challenges and advocate for themselves. The ultimate aim of our work is to reduce people’s dependence on our service, helping them move toward independence.

KEY DUTIES

• To participate in the provision of advice and advocacy for service users addressing their needs in the following areas; Housing; Welfare; Health; Education; Employment, (this list is not exhaustive);
• Refer to and liaise with partners and agencies within the statutory and voluntary sector to secure positive outcomes for Centre Users, e.g. referring and signposting guests to accommodation providers, health services and other relevant internal and external support services, as necessary.
• Work in a manner which honours our organisational values and is responsive to the trauma and experiences of homelessness and vulnerable adults.
• Maintain essential records accurately on Charity Log, (ensuring high quality case recordings).
• Ensuring the Centre Manager is kept informed of all safeguarding and risk concerns.
• Employing creative thinking and practices to ensure that guests are supported and motivated to achieve their goals.

We are recruiting a Programme Manager to lead our grassroots consortium Better Bethnal Green (BBG), supporting young people facing multiple/complex disadvantages in the borough.
