BACKGROUND
The latest research suggests that 2.7 million children are at risk of hunger, meaning one in five children don’t have enough to eat. When a child is too hungry to learn, they struggle to concentrate, absorb information, and manage their emotions, causing them to fall behind in their studies.
Magic Breakfast provides a nutritious breakfast to over 300,000 children and young people every school day. We work with schools in areas of high disadvantage, helping staff target the children most in need without barrier or stigma. We are now at an exciting point in our journey as we launch Nourishing Futures, our long-term strategy, which capitalises on market changes and government commitments to scale our work, while redefining breakfast spaces not just as places to eat, but as places to thrive.
To support the delivery of this strategy, we are evolving our Business Development function and creating a new Business Development Manager – Scotland role. This role will unlock opportunities in Scotland across public funding, trusts, foundations, philanthropy and partnerships, ensuring Magic Breakfast grows its income sustainably across devolved nations.
JOB PURPOSE
The Business Development Manager – Scotland will drive income growth and strategic partnerships in Scotland. Reporting to the Head of Business Development, this role will take a lead in developing both public funded income and philanthropic support (trusts, high-net-worth individuals and corporate partnerships).
The postholder will work closely with the Head of Major Giving (Trusts & Philanthropy) and Head of Partnerships in England to ensure joined-up approaches, while developing extensive networks and relationships across Scotland’s funding and commissioning landscape.
This role is both externally focused — cultivating relationships with commissioners, funders, and partners — and internally collaborative, aligning with colleagues across Magic Breakfast to maximise opportunities and deliver against the organisation’s strategic plan.
Key responsibilities:
Leadership and Strategy

With support from the Head of Business Development, lead the development and delivery of the Scotland Business Development and Fundraising Strategy, ensuring alignment with Magic Breakfast’s UK-wide income priorities, wider organisational strategy, and any Scotland-specific plans across Service Delivery and Policy & Engagement.

Act as the lead advisor on business development in Scotland, providing insight, guidance and recommendations on market trends, risks and opportunities.

Build and maintain a robust pipeline of opportunities across public and philanthropic income streams, ensuring accurate forecasting and reporting.
Public Funding
-
Identify and secure public funded service contracts in Scotland, particularly with local authorities, education commissioners, and government departments.

Work with the Policy and Engagement team to develop opportunities with national and regional agencies (e.g. Public Health Scotland, NHS boards, Integrated Joint Boards, Community Planning Partnerships) to embed breakfast provision into wider public health, wellbeing and education strategies.

Engage with local authority frameworks, grants and tendering processes, positioning Magic Breakfast as a trusted delivery partner for both statutory and discretionary funding streams.

Build strong partnerships with consortia, third sector networks, and intermediary bodies to access collaborative commissioning opportunities and joint delivery models.

Monitor and respond proactively to changes in the Scottish Government’s commissioning priorities (e.g. child poverty, attainment challenge, early years and family support, wellbeing economy), aligning proposals with policy drivers.

Lead the preparation of tenders, bids and commissioned service proposals, ensuring they are compelling, evidence-led and costed appropriately to reflect the value of Magic Breakfast’s offer.

Ensure clear processes for the qualification, negotiation, contracting and reporting of income agreements, working closely with Finance, Service Delivery and Policy colleagues.

Collaborate closely with the Business Development Manager responsible for public funded income in England and Wales to ensure a joined-up UK-wide approach to opportunities, share intelligence on successful models, avoid duplication of effort, and apply lessons learned from to maximise income growth.

Align Scotland’s approach with national frameworks, campaigns, and strategic priorities, ensuring that proposals, tenders, and partnerships complement work happening in other devolved nations.

Explore blended income opportunities, integrating public funded income with potential corporate partnerships or philanthropic support to maximise funding and sustainability.
Philanthropy and Partnerships

Develop and manage a pipeline and portfolio of Scottish-based trusts, foundations, family foundations, high-net-worth individuals (HNWI), and philanthropists, including those with devolved nation-specific remits. This will include working closely with the Prospect Research Manager and Major Giving colleagues to identify and qualify new opportunities, and to re-engage lapsed supporters in Scotland,

Take responsibility for cultivating relationships, preparing compelling cases for support, and personally soliciting major gifts (five- and six-figure level), securing multi-year, transformational commitments.

Work collaboratively with the Major Givings Leads and the Head of Major Giving to integrate Scottish funders into the UK-wide prospecting and stewardship framework, maximising opportunities for uplift and avoiding siloed engagement.

Deliver high-quality, values-driven donor journeys for Scottish prospects and supporters, including bespoke engagement opportunities such as school visits, events, and briefings that connect funders directly with impact.

Build relationships with corporates headquartered or operating in Scotland, coordinating with the Head of Partnerships to ensure Scottish corporate engagement complements and aligns national partnerships, avoid duplication, and develop bespoke proposals and stewardship plans where appropriate.

Contribute to the design and delivery of fundraising campaigns or initiatives with a Scottish focus, ensuring they complement national activity and align with the organisational fundraising strategy.

Collaborate with the Prospect Research Manager and Major Giving colleagues to identify and qualify new opportunities, and to re-engage lapsed supporters in Scotland,

Represent Magic Breakfast externally within Scotland’s philanthropy and fundraising networks (e.g. Scotland Fundraising Conference, Association of Charitable Foundations Scotland, SCVO events), raising profile and building new connections.

PERSONAL SPECIFICATION:
Knowledge and Experience

Strong knowledge of the Scottish funding and commissioning landscape, including key trusts, foundations, government bodies and corporate networks.

Excellent practical understanding of procurement rules and policies as well as tender and budget cycles.

Proven track record of developing and delivering income growth from a variety of sources, including public funding, philanthropy and partnerships.

Demonstrable experience of managing the full fundraising pipeline — from prospect research and qualification, through cultivation and solicitation, to long-term stewardship and renewal.

Hands-on experience of securing and soliciting significant gifts (five- and six-figure level) from high-net-worth individuals, trusts and foundations, with evidence of personally closing gifts at this scale.

Demonstrable experience of building and stewarding high-level relationships with commissioners, funders and corporate partners.

Experience of preparing successful tenders, bids and proposals, ideally within education, social impact or the charity sector.

Not all young people have the same opportunities in life. Caudwell Youth exists to level the playing field for young people at risk. We support young people up to 25 years, who face real challenges in their lives. They may experience mental health challenges, be leaving care or be at risk of exploitation or offending.
We provide person centred support through volunteer-led mentoring for up to 18-months, alongside a targeted intervention programme called Shaping Futures for high-risk young people. Founded by the philanthropist John Caudwell in 2022, we now support young people across Milton Keynes, Hertfordshire, Slough, Buckinghamshire, and Luton.
Over our first 3 years as a charity, our work has consistently achieved exceptional outcomes for at-risk young people. 95% reduced offending behaviour, 64% reduced their exploitation risk, 83% reported improvements in their mental health and 45% had moved into education, employment or training. When a young person makes progress, families and communities benefit too. In fact, economic analysis shows that for every £1 invested in our programme, we save the public purse £6.05.
Unfortunately, demand for our service far outstrips supply, meaning we have often had to close our waiting lists. Whilst the risks and challenges young people face continue to grow. We currently support around 400 young people. The driving ambition behind our forthcoming strategy is to reach more.

Role summary:
UK Community Foundations is looking for a part-time Project Manager to support the team on an interim fixed-term basis of 3 months (commencing as soon as possible).
The main purpose of this role is to lead on our Revitalising Trusts Programme which we run in partnership with the Charity Commission for England and Wales. The Revitalising Trusts Programme aims to ensure that inactive charitable trusts are either revitalised, or their assets are transferred to another charity (in the cases we manage, this is typically to a community foundation).
You will be highly organised, proactive and have excellent attention to detail – a completer-finisher who takes pride in seeing projects through to the end. The ability to build strong relationships with member community foundations and the team at the Charity Commission is crucial to the programme’s success. Legal and charity governance experience is not essential but would be an asset to the role.
The successful Project Manager will be asked to provide support to the wider team on other strategic projects as needed, so we welcome an open and flexible mindset.
The role is very flexible. We are largely a fully remote team (with some desk space available in central London, if preferred). About the role
Every five minutes, someone, somewhere in the world is told that they have MS. There are currently 2.9 million people in the world living with MS. A diagnosis often comes at a time when you’re in the prime of your life, when you should be planning your future, not facing a lifetime of uncertainty. This role is an essential leadership role in Overcoming MS, working as a key member of a small Senior Leadership Team, in partnership with the Chief Executive and Director of Services. The Director of Fundraising & Communications is responsible for driving income generation, strengthening the charity’s profile, and embedding marketing and digital excellence across all areas of work.
Job summary:
You will set both strategic direction and deliver hands-on activity, overseeing all fundraising streams, communications, digital platforms, and supporter engagement. You will develop integrated strategies that maximise limited resources, grow sustainable income, amplify our impact and ensure the charity communicates with clarity, consistency, and purpose.
You will lead a small team of fundraisers, marketeers and communicators to deliver to our current organisational plans, whilst developing longer term plans to extend our reach and our income base. You will work proactively and independently to build relationships, develop innovative campaigns and provide the support that enables our service delivery to function.
You will be expected to provide a high standard and quality of impact across a range of activities and projects, being fully aware of and upholding the charity’s values, and taking responsibility for modelling these to others across the organisation and to the wider community.
Key responsibilities:
1. Strategic & organisational leadership
- Lead the development and delivery of an integrated fundraising, communications, and digital strategy aligned with the charity’s mission and growth ambitions.
- Provide senior leadership input into organisational planning, impact reporting, and strategic development.
- Manage departmental budgets, forecasting, and performance monitoring.
- Foster a collaborative, values-driven culture and support wider organisational priorities.
2. Fundraising leadership
· Drive sustainable income growth across key fundraising streams:
o Individual giving and regular giving
o Major donors

3. Communications, brand & digital
· Transform our approach to raising awareness – both of the connection between healthy lifestyle and MS, as well as Overcoming MS itself – ensuring we reach people with MS and their families at the earliest point of a diagnosis.
- Lead Overcoming MS’s communication strategy to significantly grow visibility, engagement and trust, with everyone affected by MS, the Overcoming MS community, donors and fundraisers, and other key stakeholders.
- Ensure digital and communication tools, channels, systems and platforms underpin and are able to maximise opportunities for all fundraising, communications, and operational activity.
- Use communication and marketing techniques to amplify the impact of our services and increase our reach, ensuring maximum take up.
- Oversee the charity’s website, ensuring strong user experience, accessibility, SEO performance, and conversion optimisation.
- Oversee production of high-quality, tailored content for digital, print, and social channels.
- Oversee digital supporter acquisition and retention: paid ads, email marketing, marketing automation, and analytics.
5. Campaigns & public engagement
- Lead fundraising, awareness and media campaigns across digital and traditional channels.
- Use data, insights, and analytics to optimise campaign performance and supporter engagement.
6. Other
- Provide regular performance reports to the CEO and Board, including financial updates, campaign metrics, and risk management.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of fundraising regulation, data protection, accessible communications and digital governance, ensuring all our activities are compliant.

PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential experience
- Senior leadership experience within a charity or non-profit organisation, ideally in a small team or resource-limited environment.
- Proven track record of generating income across multiple fundraising streams.
- Experience leading digital, communications, and/or marketing functions.
- Demonstrable experience of measurable impact within a small organisation, through increasing income generation or significant reach.
- Demonstrable experience of content creation, audience engagement and strong message creation.
- Experience of delivering integrated campaigns, including overseeing media and digital engagement, with demonstrable outcomes.
- Experience managing donor relationships, funder reporting, and high-quality proposals.
- Budget management and strategic planning experience.
- Significant experience of managing external providers, agencies, suppliers and partners, managing relationships to achieve better terms, service or outcomes, overcoming difficulties or retendering where required.

Key Tasks
Volunteer Engagement and Support
· Develop and grow the engagement in branches & SIGs and support volunteers to build new groups and networks.
· Build strong relationships with each branch and SIG community, providing administration support for their meetings and activities.
· With support, develop and deliver our annual in-person Volunteer Awards and annual in-person Volunteer Forum event.
· Work with the Communities and Events Manager to develop and deliver branch events and SIG conferences.
· Engage our volunteers with regular virtual ‘keep in touch’ meetings and other activities designed to maximise their satisfaction in their volunteer role – and share best practice across the networks.
· Create regular communications to engage and update our volunteers.
Community Development
· Support our communities with the development of their annual budgets and help them develop ideas for new, year-round activities to maximise member engagement and volunteer satisfaction.

Operational Support
· Ensure our CRM is kept up to date with current volunteer details for each community.

What we're building
Every year, 3,000+ swimmers take on some of the UK's most iconic open water challenges, including the Dart10k, Bantham Swoosh and The Hurly Burly along with our growing series of 24-hour Wild Swim Relays. They swim so that disabled kids who need it most can get life-changing swimming lessons.
Last year, these swimmers raised over £1m. This year, we want to double it. And we need someone who can help us get there.
We're Level Water, a founder-led charity solving learn-to-swim for disabled children. We're not your typical charity. We own the events and run them like a business. We move fast, test everything, and we're building something that doesn't exist anywhere else.
We've just brought in a new Fundraising Director, and this role is a cornerstone of the team we're building. If you want to help define how a modern charity does supporter care, this is your chance.
The opportunity
This isn't a "send some emails and answer some queries" role. This is a "build something and make it brilliant" role.
You'll own the entire experience for our 3,000 swimmers from the moment they sign up, through their training and fundraising journey, to the event itself (yes, you'll be there), and beyond. You'll design the journey, execute it, measure it, improve it, and scale it.
You'll have the freedom to experiment. Want to test a new communication sequence? Build a WhatsApp community? Launch a training programme? Run in-person meet ups? Create a membership product? Brilliant, build the business case and let's do it.
You'll work with real people who are doing something remarkable. You'll get to know them, thank them, support them, and help them raise more money than they thought possible. And you'll do it in a way that makes them want to come back year after year.
You'll also work closely with our Fundraising Director, Events and Marketing teams to turn our swimmers into our best marketing channel, because the people who've experienced our events are the ones who'll bring their friends next year.
And you'll grow with us. We're scaling fast, and we need people who can scale with us, whether that's into senior leadership, building out new teams, or launching new products.
