As a Senior Philanthropy Manager (Principal Gifts), you will be at the heart of this mission, taking ownership of a portfolio of existing donors and prospective supporters, spanning both Major Donor and Trusts & Foundations streams.

About You

As our ideal candidate, you have an impressive background in major gift fundraising, with a proven track record of securing six and seven-figure donations and exceeding ambitious targets.

Able to demonstrate in-depth knowledge of philanthropic fundraising, particularly from Major Donor and Trusts & Foundations sources, you possess strong experience working with senior volunteer leaders and stakeholders such as Trustees, board members, and high-net-worth individuals.

You have the skills and experience to autonomously lead every stage of the cultivation and stewardship journey – from cold prospecting, relationship building across multiple stakeholders, developing and writing strong proposals, pitching, delivering, nurturing and uplifting relationships.

A robust understanding of the charity sector, including its challenges and opportunities, is essential as are your skills and experience in building bespoke fundraising propositions, fundraising through major gift campaigns, and managing complex stakeholder relationships.

You have exceptional communication, both written and verbal, and the ability to inspire commitment and connection to our mission. Strong organisational skills, meticulous attention to detail, and proficiency with Microsoft Office and CRM systems are required.

Working arrangements

The newly created Advice & Support Team plays a critical role in delivering Battersea’s strategic focus on early intervention in the pet ownership journey. By offering well-timed expert and empathetic support and advice before owners reach crisis point, the team aims to prevent avoidable animal welfare issues and reduce the number of pets relinquished for preventable reasons.

This role will be pivotal in bringing Battersea’s ambitious Advice & Support strategy to life. It will involve leading and developing innovative, partner-oriented projects that provide practical solutions - from helping prospective owners make informed acquisition decisions to supporting struggling cat and dog owners when they need it most.

Success will require working cross-functionally within Battersea while also building and managing strong, ongoing relationships with external partners at a senior level both inside and outside the animal welfare sector. Current initiatives, such as our partnership with FareShare and pet food manufacturers to deliver pet food to owners in need, illustrate the type of collaborative, preventative work this role will initiate, manage or expand.

Person Specification

• 3–5 years of relevant HR experience, ideally within a small or purpose-led organisation.

The Opportunity 

As our Senior Evaluation Coordinator you’ll drive forward how we measure and share our organisation’s impact.

You’ll own our monitoring and evaluation framework and use this to design smart and robust ways to measure how our work creates change.

You’ll lead our annual data collection processes and cycles, collaborating with other teams to collect and share key outcomes data, both internally and externally.

From crafting data methodologies to generating insightful reporting for stakeholders, this role is ideal for someone who loves delving into data, analysing and communicating trends and working with others to make a difference. 

1. Designing how we measure our impact

• Shape evaluation questions and themes to explore, design the methodology, and consider data required to conduct robust analysis  

2. Evaluating our interventions

• Manage the yearly impact evaluation to further the organisation’s understanding of its effect across our three interventions:

We are looking for a Research and Operations Manager to join our passionate fundraising team. You will play a pivotal role in driving high-value fundraising outcomes across Rethink Mental Illness and Mental Health UK by delivering a strategic, insight-led approach to prospect research and portfolio management.

Managing the Senior Philanthropy and Research Officer you will oversee the identification, qualification and prioritisation of prospects across Philanthropy, Trusts & Grants and Corporate Partnerships. You will lead on due diligence processes, prospect pipeline management, connection mapping and the development of systems and tools that enable data-driven decision-making. Working closely with senior fundraisers and the Interim Head of Trusts and Philanthropy, you will ensure teams have the intelligence and insights needed to build strong, meaningful donor relationships.
