Are you passionate about STEM education and creating opportunities for young people? Do you want to oversee national programmes that connect businesses, universities, and volunteers with schools across the UK? 

We’re looking for an experienced and visionary careers and enrichment programme lead to oversee the operational delivery of the STEM Ambassador Programme – the UK’s largest STEM volunteering programme, engaging nearly 28,000 volunteers from over 5,000 organisations.

Reporting to the Head of Skills & Partner Engagement, the STEM Ambassadors Delivery Lead will ensure that we deliver a high impact, UK wide STEM volunteering programme providing millions of young people with inspiring careers and enrichment opportunities.

You will be responsible for programme monitoring, reporting to government, liaison with regional delivery partners and connecting the internal departments which contribute to the programme’s success. 

 About Us

STEM Learning’s vision is a world-leading STEM education for all young people across the UK. We are dedicated to improving young people’s lives through the power of STEM and believe great STEM education builds knowledge and skills that are vital for everyone.

To achieve this, we provide a range of support to formal and informal education, including subject-specific professional development for teachers and other educators, quality assured resources, support for STEM Clubs, and student-facing experiences.

We lead the STEM Ambassadors programme, which enables 28,000 volunteers to share their enthusiasm and expertise with young people and teachers throughout the UK via classroom activities, career talks, etc.

 The Role

This crucial role will be accountable for the efficient operational management of the STEM Ambassador programme, as well as leading improvements and innovation of the customer experience of all stakeholders engaging with the programme.

The role is broad and varied covering financial oversight, milestones and KPI monitoring, reporting and data analysis, programme innovation and external promotion.

Your success in this role will contribute positively to building STEM Learning’s reputation as ‘the partner of choice’ for STEM outreach and increase our network of supporters wanting to engage in and support STEM.

You will have experience of the careers and skills sector, having played a key operational role in overseeing the operations of a large and complex careers programme.

With excellent relationship building and communication skills, you will need to demonstrate your ability to collaborate effectively with a range of internal and external stakeholders, including managing their expectations.

As a visible and supportive leader, you will work effectively with remote colleagues, and be able to manage change and build resilience within teams.  As well as working as part of a team, you will equally be able to work on your own initiative.

The role holder will be required to undertake some UK travel and occasional overnight stays. Flexibility of working hours will be required to meet the demands of the role at key times.

Key Responsibilities 

Leadership & Operations 

• Oversee daily operations, ensuring smooth running of all charity functions. 

• Manage and lead a growing team, providing support and guidance.

• Strong organisational and independent time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities. 

• Proven experience in operations management, with a track record of improving processes and productivity. 

• The ability to work with and report to the Board of Trustees, including governance and strategic planning, alongside familiarity with charity legislation, guidelines, and best practices.

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic Financial & Operational Leadership

Person Specification

Essential

• Professional accounting or finance qualification (e.g., ACCA, CIMA, ACA or equivalent).

• Proven experience in a senior finance and operations role (at least three years experience).

• Experience in preparing UK statutory accounts and managing external audits. 

• In-depth knowledge of UK FRS 102 and Charities SORP. Exposure to/experience of US GAAP.

• Experience in preparing the annual budget, working closely with budget holders.

• Experience in supporting grant management.

• High proficiency in using financial software. (e.g. QuickBooks, Xero etc.)

• Experience in driving continuous improvement of financial processes and systems.

What will I be doing?

• Create a powerful alliance of Corporate Partners to influence science strategies and investment in areas such as advanced sensing, photonics, quantum technologies, semiconductors, renewable energy, autonomous systems and medtech
• Secure long-term relationships by delivering impactful services that meet partners’ needs: working with cross-organisation teams to drive take up of IOP membership, professional registrations, thought leadership articles and access to publishing content
• Manage risks and ensure financial sustainability of the Corporate Partners Alliance

Projects you work on may include:

• Deliver annual series of leadership visits to Corporate Partners organisations to explore interests and common priorities around skills, R&D, infrastructure and business support
• Manage and deliver science insights and advocacy activities with Corporate Partners, via high-level meetings with senior stakeholders in government, industry, finance and academia
• Facilitate ideation workshops, prepare briefings and produce reports to develop new insights and seed new activities to support IOP and partner priorities

Who will I work with?

• Executive Directors and Chief Technology Officers in large R&D intensive businesses
• IOP leadership and cross-organisational teams including our publishing company
• Closely with IOP Associate Director for Science, Business and Data Insights

You are likely to have the following experience

• Credibility in building corporate partnerships with c-suite and senior leaders in R&D intensive, large businesses
• Knowledge of working at the interface of government policy, business and academia regarding science, technology and innovation
• Experience of implementing projects that involve managing senior stakeholders and decision makers in business and securing income targets

Job Description

• Maintain and update key financial policies and ensure adherence to governance standards and audit recommendations.

The Operations Coordinator will provide vital support to ensure the smooth day-to-day operations of the organisation, providing key operations administrative support to areas including, but not limited to Facilities, Office, IT, Data, Health & Safety and Policies & Procedures.

Key responsibilities:

Facilities and Office Admin

• Act as the main point of contact for the ScreenSkills office as a key liaison with the serviced office team (Techspace), meeting and greeting visitors as a representative of the organisation, managing visitor passes etc.
• Provide general office support in the smooth running of the office operations, acting as a key liaison for all ScreenSkills staff, including the set-up and exit requirements for new-starters and leavers.
• Manage meeting room booking requests, alongside the CEO’s PA, overseeing requirements for internal/external meetings, helping coordinate bookings on ScreenSkills desk booking system.
• Coordinate enquiries to the wider operations team, managing email inboxes and any other reasonable communication duties as requested.

IT and Software

• Ensure all staff have suitable IT equipment and telecoms (as authorised), liaising with our IT providers (TouchTec) as needed, ensuring fixed IT assets are assigned, tracked and reported to finance and the COO proficiently and in a timely manner.
• Ability to provide calm first-line basic technical support, troubleshooting issues with devices, software, hardware, meeting room AV and online platforms. Logging and tracking issues and following-up support tickets diligently.

Data and Compliance

• Coordinating data processing requirements in line with our policies. Assist with managing data as instructed and per our data handling and retention policies.
• Coordinate and track data subject access requests as these arise.

Health & Safety

• Coordinate general Health and Safety documentation within the organisation ensuring fire and general risk assessments are completed in a timely manner, working with HR to coordinate information between the Techspace team and our Fire Marshalls and First Aiders.
• Act as a First Aider and/or Fire Marshal for ScreenSkills staff.
• Arrange annual training for first aiders and fire marshals.

Policies and Procedures

• Monitor the organisation’s policies, ensuring relevant senior managers are aware of the schedule to review/update them.
• Signposting staff to relevant policies and procedures as requested.
• Coordinate and track the organisations’ complaints process.

The ideal candidate will have the following:

BookTrust, the charity that champions the power of reading, is seeking a Head of Fundraising in a new senior role to oversee the strategic development and management of their voluntary income, to help them deliver their goals to shape a national reading culture.

BookTrust is the UK’s largest children’s reading charity, reaching over 1.3 million children and families across England, Wales and Northern Ireland each year and delivering evidence-informed programmes that make a measurable difference to children’s reading behaviours. Their work is rooted in the belief that every child deserves the chance to enjoy reading and all the lifelong benefits it brings. In recent years, the charity’s work has focused on helping children from low-income and vulnerable family backgrounds to become regular readers.

The Head of Fundraising will be responsible for stewarding an existing portfolio of major statutory and voluntary funders, and managing BookTrust’s high value and individual giving portfolio. This includes trusts and foundations, statutory funders and corporate partners from the publishing sector and beyond, from Waterstones to Build-A-Bear. About the role

This is a key role within the Philanthropy & Partnerships Team. You will lead the development and delivery of the Trust & Grants Strategy meeting and /or exceeding income targets, support the ongoing development and delivery of strategic objectives and KPIs, ensure strong stewardship of our existing donor relations and prospect new opportunities for funding. You will personally secure income from Trust and Statutory audiences in support of Freedom from Torture’s work across our clinical work, policy and campaigning priorities.

You will manage a committed team of three Trust & Grants Officers and work closely with the Head of Philanthropy and Partnerships to implement the fundraising strategy. The Trusts and Grants Team sits within the Philanthropy & Partnership Team in Freedom from Torture’s friendly, creative and ambitious Fundraising & Communications Directorate.

You will represent the organisation externally with funders and work internally with colleagues to identify opportunities for funding, in the preparation of proposals and thereafter, reports. 
 

About you

To be successful in this role you must have demonstrable experience of developing and implementing a plan to grow Trust & Grant income, successfully meeting or exceeding fundraising targets from a variety of funders and experience managing relationships with statutory funders and trust and foundations. You will have experience of managing fundraisers and supporting them to manage their priorities and portfolios. You will have experience of measuring and monitoring income and expenditure, and team performance.

It’s essential that you have excellent communication skills and can build relationships across the organisation to develop strong fundraising ideas and support engagement with senior staff in building relationships with trusts. You will have experience of managing donor funded grants including review of financial information, preparation of donor reports and donor compliance. You must have experience and knowledge of statutory and grant fundraising research tools and grant writing in the UK charity sector.
