Black-and-Racialised groups face many challenges that inhibit their ability to thrive and deliver quality services that meet the needs of their users. We are seeking an experienced Deputy Finance Director who will play a pivotal role in establishing a Finance Centre of Excellence - providing infrastructural and financial management support to Black and Minoritised community-led organisations in 8 London boroughs. The Centre of Excellence will focus on increasing groups’ financial literacy, confidence, skills, resilience and will include:

• Bespoke financial management capacity-building support, including compliance with statutory/funder requirements; and support with operational/strategic management and planning resources.

• Support will also include financial health checks, finance strategy development, risk.

• Identification and management, budgeting, statutory/funder compliance training, employer responsibilities training, governance training, budget for funding bids, and annual report.

• Devote significant time to outward-facing activities dedicated to supporting frontline Black and racialised grassroots community groups.

• Development of online learning tools and platforms to cascade the learning and providing 1-to-1 coaching sessions for Senior managers and Trustees.

The Deputy Finance Director will report to and work closely with the Chief Financial officer and will also contribute to Ubele’s overall financial strategy and supporting financial operations within our central hub.

We’re a small charity that brings communities together to create cleaner, connected and safer urban and rural neighbourhoods by tackling the litter problems where they live. Litter-picking brings people closer together, enables neighbours to meet one another other and helps create a greater sense of pride and community in local areas.

Historically, we have delivered litter-picking focussed community engagement projects in London and Birmingham. Our current focus is developing partnerships with community organisations across England to expand our reach and increase impact.

Main duties of the role 

• To provide a pro-active, high-quality administration and support service to the Operational Team, Chief Executive and the Corporate Partnerships team. 

Operational Team: Deals with logistics, processes and day to day functions of our work on the ground with community partners and volunteers.

Role purpose

Key tasks and responsibilities

1. Deliver positive action activity for change:

• Support the development and delivery of WorldSkills UK’s external ED&I strategy. Ensure it is fit for purpose, has recognised long term goals and will deliver measurable change, reflecting organisational priorities around increased engagement with ethnic minority groups and females. Provide an overarching framework and help further develop strategic KPIs for our ED&I work, ensuring effective use of data, monitoring progress and performance.
• Work with the Senior Strategic Partnerships Manager to develop action plans that will drive our continuous improvement:
  • Support our skills competition development programmes to increase the diversity of young people engaged
  • Support the development of role models to showcase the impact of our work and encourage diversity in key areas of industry, including future priority skill areas
  • Support the development of learning resources that aid engagement with underrepresented groups
  • Support teams to ensure ED&I matters are considered and addressed as key components of all strategies, plans and programmes.

2. Manage the ED&I Advisory Group:

• This is a unique opportunity to work with experienced and prominent senior individuals from across education and industry who are invested in driving the agenda for ED&I.
• Lead the administration and ongoing development of our Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Advisory Group.
• Engage the Group to help support, advise and challenge WorldSkills UK on its actions to remove obstacles and barriers faced by young people from under-represented backgrounds in our programmes.
• Report regularly to the Group on progress against KPI’s and facilitate reports for the WorldSkills UK Board.

3. Project Manage the ED&I Heroes Awards

• The Awards is an established flagship event which provides a platform for WorldSkills UK to celebrate success with its partners, amplify best practice and inspire others to drive change across the skills systems in education and business.
• Project manage delivery of the annual Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Heroes Awards, supported by relevant internal teams
  • Establish the nominations process
  • Co-ordinate the judging panel
  • Organise the awards ceremony
  • Manage the support of the awards partners.

4. Manage strategic relationships

• Manage a portfolio of ED&I focused Strategic Partnerships with organisations from across the skills sector, facilitating their support and engagement with our EDI programmes.
• Grow our network of partners to widen our reach, help further drive work in this area and collectively impact on the sector.
• Advise and support the development of the CEO’s international activities on ED&I with WorldSkills International (WSI).

5. Raise the profile of WorldSkills UK’s ED&I work:

• Work with teams across the organisation to support our Mission to ignite a national and global movement to help more young people, regardless of their background, get the best possible start in work and life.
• Support the Senior Strategic Partnerships Manager and Marketing and Communications Team to showcase the impact of our programmes:

Trust and foundations

• Update the trusts and foundations database and managing the pipeline of activity
• Prepare tailored applications to trusts and foundations
• Manage reporting deadlines to funders

• Create budgets working with the Executive Director, Finance Director, Artistic Directors and Project Leads 

Individual and Corporate Giving

• Create individual giving schemes, exploring the potential for new initiatives such as membership and legacy programmes

Event Planning

• Create a programme of cultivation events which could:

• Day to day management of fundraising budget, creating and monitoring income targets and delivering compelling company messaging around charitable giving on and offline. 

Ideal candidates will have skills and experience as shown in the candidate pack including:

• Evidence of alignment with charity’s vision, mission, values and commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.
• Lived experience of disabling or marginalising barriers.
• Understanding and experience of performing arts landscape, key figures, organisations and funders.

• Fundraising track record, delivering against targets (in a similar sized arts or not-for-profit) and of securing significant donations at the five-figure level or more.

• Thorough knowledge of the relevant fundraising legislation, regulations and financial issues and fundraising obligations of arts charities/Arts Council National Portfolio Organisations.
• Strong literacy, administrative, time management and organisational skills.
• Proactive approach to continuing professional development.
• Experience of dealing with public sector organisations at a senior level.
• Membership of relevant educational and/or professional bodies.

I monitor the performance of our posts and I am proactive in incorporating best practice to ensure that our posts are well received by our audiences, and that our presence on our social media channels grows.

I regularly collaborate with colleagues across both charities, and the other founding charities of Mental Health UK, and key partners to create compelling and inspiring content.

Mind's Partnerships Fundraising team - part of the wider fundraising directorate - is responsible for generating income from major donors, charitable trusts and foundations, the statutory and corporate sectors.

The New Corporate Partnerships team is comprised of a head of team, two senior managers, two senior officers, three officers and one assistant.

The New Corporate Partnerships team has been at the forefront of securing some fantastic partnerships for Mind such as, Allianz, Bupa, Co-op, Direct Line, Dunelm, ITV, McLaren Racing, and McVitie's, to name a few. Our partnerships cover the spectrum of partnership types; strategic and Charity of the Year partnerships (COTYs) and brand and commercial partnerships. You will help us build on our success.

In these unprecedented and challenging times, Mind is and will be needed more than ever. Our corporate partnerships play a huge role by helping us, raise income to achieve our strategic goals and adding value to businesses and society through our partnerships, including raising public awareness and reaching new audiences.

Key duties and responsibilities

The post holder will:

Working with the Head of New Partnerships, the New Corporate Partnerships Manager will:

-Help develop and implement the Corporate Partnerships team's new partnerships strategy, working closely with the Head of New Corporate Partnerships and other team members.

-In year one, be accountable for delivering an individual income target for 22/23 and supporting the overall New Partnerships Teams' multi-year income targets and ROI, working with the Head of New Corporate Partnerships and reviewing progress on a monthly and quarterly basis.

-Lead and develop opportunities from the Charity of the Year (COTY) and commercial/strategic pipeline, including developing and stewarding relationships, submitting proposals, leading on pitches, while working with various teams across Mind.

-Project Manage high level bids, to engage internal teams, create clear project plans including: roles and responsibilities, senior stakeholder briefing and internal feedback.

-Identify networking opportunities across Mind and externally for potential corporate partnerships

-Develop stewardship plans for top prospects, including Mind senior leadership and trustee engagement and roles, taking a collaborative approach and balancing impact and effort across opportunities

-Line manage two New Corporate Partnerships Officers who will support with the development of pitches and lead their own opportunities with your support

-Lead and assist with the design of new partnership agreements with companies to ensure that expectations from both parties are met and the interests of Mind are looked after, and risks are mitigated.

-Work proactively with the Corporate Partnerships team managers and support the wider team to renew, deliver and grow holistic, donor-focused partnerships where appropriate.

-Work with colleagues across Mind to identify the potential and manage the risk in new partnerships, ensuring that Mind's ethical policy and charity legislation is adhered to.

-Monitor, analyse and review information on industry trends, innovations and developments, keeping the pipeline updated.

-Represent the Partnerships team in appropriate working groups, workshops and/or meetings/other events as directed.

-Monitor and evaluate new business activity and provide regular updates/reports to the Head of New Corporate Partnerships.

-To use the CRM database to enter, update and extract accurate information to maximise operational benefits and opportunities from the database system.

-To support the new partnerships team and have delegated responsibility from time to time, in the absence of the Head of New Partnerships.

-To undertake other duties that may, from time to time, be necessary and compatible with the nature and grade of this post.

About the role

The Operations and Business Development Lead will play an important role in overseeing effective organisational service delivery and working closely with the CEO to develop the role of the charity within Surrey and beyond. The role requires overseeing delivery of key projects, managing a small team of staff and volunteers, developing long-term business plans and curating relationships with new partners and funders to ensure Include has the resilience to deliver against its mission into the future.

As OBD Lead, you will be a key member of the Senior Leadership Team working with the CEO, Finance & Data Lead, Communications & Partnerships Lead & Clinical Lead to develop and deliver Include’s core services and processes, with an eye for sustainability, impact and long-term growth.

This is a hybrid role. You will be asked to assist at events or performances, in addition to regularly attending sessions and meetings.
