The Job

Reporting to the Individual Giving Manager, the Supporter Care Officer role sits within the Communications, Engagement and Fundraising team. USPG is looking for someone with excellent communication skills and enthusiasm to join our small but growing fundraising team.  The post holder will be the first port of call for all incoming communications and will work closely with the Individual Giving Manager to ensure that our supporters feel valued. The role is also responsible for maintaining the data and developing supporter care processes.

You are highly organised, enthusiastic and flexible with a passion for delivering an excellent supporter experience. The ideal candidate will have experience in customer service, data handling and administration. They will be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, with a flexible, can-do attitude. The role holder will be used to co-ordinating a varied workload, working in close collaboration with colleagues and delivering to deadlines. They will have excellent IT skills and experience of working with databases.

The Diocese in Europe is looking for a strategic leader to develop plans that will grow the scale, impact and depth of the work of the Church of England across the diocese.   The post will be filled by someone with a heart and a motivation to work for the church in a unique international context and with the ability both to work alone and with a range of colleagues and stakeholders.

This is an opportunity to lead an award winning communications team – Third Sector Communications Team of the Year in 2024 – that’s tasked with changing how we think about hospice, end of life and palliative care in the UK.

As the charity representing the UK’s 200+ hospices, we have secured ourselves a significant national platform in the past year or two, with regular, top-tier national media, and online campaigns which have forced the government to act. 

With assisted dying legislation progressing across the UK, now is a critically important moment for the public – and for politicians – to better understand what hospice care is all about, and the challenges we face.

As part of our mission to promote and protect hospice care for all, it is critical that our communications team keeps it high on the agenda. We’ve built huge momentum – whether with regular national TV news coverage, a rapidly growing online supporter base, or though our recently overhauled brand. But we need a savvy, politically switched-on Head of Communications and Campaigns to keep that going, and to make it pay off.

Hospices are amongst our most loved community charities, and our job as the national charity for hospice care is to rally the public – as well as major donors like companies and trusts – to support these brilliant organisations.

You’ll need a strong eye for a story, and an integrated understanding of the full spectrum of communications, campaigns and marketing. You’ll likely be a specialist in one area – which is fine – but we want someone who can join the dots, spot the opportunities, and inspire a team of specialists.

Hospices are under huge pressure. Funding is tight, and demand is surging. This is your chance, in the coming years, to play a leading role in fighting for hospices to get the support they need – from government, from the media, and from the public.

About the role

Your first six months

You will learn about our approach to working with others, and creating impact at scale, through a mix of team-led training, project-shadowing and self-directed study.

At a time of organisational transformation and ambitious long-term growth, this role is central to building the operational foundations and supporter experiences that will enable our 10-year vision to succeed.  This role will provide clear direction and structure to the planning and execution of our event portfolio, while remaining close to the operational detail — streamlining processes, refining supporter journeys, and driving performance through data, insight and continuous improvement.  This role is responsible for setting high standards across everything from partnership engagement to on-the-day execution. It requires someone who is comfortable working autonomously, leading high-value relationships with professionalism and precision, and bringing creative thinking to how we engage and retain our event supporters. The Events Fundraising Lead will also guide and support the Events Fundraising Co-ordinator, working in close partnership to deliver exceptional stewardship across the supporter lifecycle and elevate every touchpoint — from first sign-up to post-event celebration. This is a key opportunity for an experienced event professional to shape the future of events at Guy’s & St Thomas’ Foundation and play a leading role in how we build supporter loyalty, scale income, and strengthen our presence in third-party partnerships.

Key Responsibilities

• Independently lead the delivery of a portfolio of flagship fundraising events (e.g. London Marathon, London Landmarks,  St Thomas’ Abseil), from planning and budgeting to live execution and post-event evaluation.
• Take full accountability for event logistics, safety planning, compliance, supplier and volunteer coordination, and performance reporting.
• Act as the strategic lead and key relationship manager with external partners (e.g. London Marathon Events, contracted delivery agencies), managing high-stakes negotiations and ensuring our brand and supporter experience are protected at all stages.
• Develop and manage detailed event budgets, including forecasting, tracking, reconciliation and net income reporting.
• Design recruitment and supporter acquisition strategies (e.g. ballot, registration flows, digital campaigns, grassroots marketing), optimising for retention and ROI in collaboration with digital and comms teams.
• Provide operational guidance and oversight to the Events Fundraising Co-ordinator, ensuring compliance, quality, and consistency across all shared delivery elements.
• Collaborate on supporter stewardship planning and execution, ensuring high-quality communications, journeys and post-event follow-up — with appropriate division of responsibilities between Lead and Co-ordinator.
• Own the production and implementation of risk assessments, permits, insurances and safety documentation, ensuring all activity is compliant and appropriately escalated when needed.
• Evaluate events against defined KPIs, using data insight and feedback to improve delivery, supporter satisfaction and financial performance.

Work environment

• Work in a hybrid hot desk environment, generally working 2 days a week in the London office and three from home. 
• Be responsible for the input and maintenance of databases and files relevant to the post requirements.
• Will occasionally be required to attend events in the evening and at weekends.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Experience

This role requires substantial, direct operational experience. Applicants without evidence of owning event budgets, long-term strategy work, operational logistics, and external partnership delivery will not be shortlisted.

 Essential Experience

• At least 3 years' experience independently delivering large-scale fundraising events with full logistical and financial responsibility. 
• Strong background in supplier management, live event operations, and compliance, including health & safety, risk documentation and insurance. 
• Demonstrated success in building and managing strategic partnerships with third-party organisers (e.g. London Marathon Events) 
• Proven ability to create and manage ambitious event budgets, including re-forecasting, reporting and cost-efficiency tracking. 
• Deep understanding of event marketing and acquisition — including ballot processes, supporter targeting, segmentation and grassroots recruitment strategies.

• In partnership with the Chief Operating Officer, ensure Mermaids has robust finance, HR, IT, data privacy and governance processes and procedures are embedded.

• Line manage senior staff including the COO and service delivery managers.

• Lead communications strategy, and lead press engagement by responding to media inquiries, interviews, press conferences and media events.
• Lead on stakeholder engagement, including with funders, supporters, community partners, and policy influencers.
• Advocate for the rights and needs of trans and gender-diverse children, young people and the significant others in their lives at a national level.
