About the role

SFCT is looking for a Senior Finance Partner to provide financial leadership across a portfolio of trusts. This is a varied role with real breadth, providing financial insight to support decision-making and help organisations plan for the future.

You’ll work closely with trustees, executives and colleagues across the group, translating financial information into clear insight and ensuring reporting, planning and controls support effective decision-making.

Your work will include:

• Leading financial management across a portfolio of trusts, including reporting, audit and maintaining strong financial controls

About the Role

As our Director of Finance and Resources, you’ll be a key member of our Senior Leadership Team, leading on:

One of the nine members of the Coram group, Coram Children’s Legal Centre (CCLC) is the UK’s specialist centre for children’s rights in education, immigration, community care and family law, and provides significant international legal systems consultancy. We champion access to justice through information and advice, legal practice and representation, policy and strategic litigation. Our Legal Practice Unit provides advice and representation primarily under legal aid contract. About the role

This role will coordinate, oversee and supervise the Legal Practice Unit’s legal aid billing operations. Through systematic and efficient management, the post-holder will play an important role in CCLC’s financial and operational sustainability. Working with the Managing Director of Legal Practice, the Heads of Department and Coram’s central finance team, the key objective of the role is to help maximise the unit’s legal aid billing in controlled work, certificated work and inter partes costs. It will also oversee private fees billing. The post-holder will oversee the smooth running of legal aid billing. In this role, the post-holder will work very closely with legal, operations and administrative staff. The role will act as a key point of contact for a range of internal and external stakeholders including Coram’s central finance team who will support the role with grant fund management and overall accounting functions for CCLC. The post-holder will support the Managing Director of Legal Practice and Children’s Rights and department heads in the successful maintenance of our relationship with the Legal Aid Agency.

The role would suit a legal aid billing professional with significant direct hands on experience of a range of types of civil legal aid billing (including controlled and certificated work) and an understanding of the challenges of legal aid. The ideal candidate will have experience of supervising the work of others but support and training will be provided. We are looking for someone who is interested in developing into management, is a proactive problem solver, is highly organised and able to maintain oversight over different workstreams ensuring progress. In addition to legal aid experience, they will need an aptitude for processing large amounts of data, developing and managing spreadsheets and improving organisational systems. They will be well supported through training, an enthusiastic and competent junior billing team, the central finance team and an outsourced legal cashiering company, as well as a friendly and collaborative management team including the Managing Director and the Heads of practice areas.

This is a largely office-based role in order to fully provide support to the billing team. However, some remote / hybrid working may be possible depending the experience of the candidate after the initial settling in period and there will be flexibility over how the working hours days will be spread across the week (within working hours). What you’ll do

This is a senior, strategic finance leadership role responsible for shaping long-term financial planning, leading business partnering across the organisation, and providing insight to support Executive decision-making and organisational sustainability.

• As the Head of Finance Business Partnering, you will lead financial strategy and modelling, Develop long-term financial plans, including income and expenditure projections, scenario modelling, and sustainability metrics (e.g. cash flow, reserves, EBITDA)
• You will own budgeting and reporting, Oversee budgeting, forecasting and management accounts, ensuring accurate, timely and insightful financial reporting
• Drive business partnering, build strong relationships with budget holders and senior stakeholders, providing challenge, insight and support to improve financial performance

What you’ll bring

You will be a senior, qualified finance leader with strong business partnering experience, able to combine strategic thinking with advanced technical expertise to influence decision-making, lead high-performing teams, and drive financial insight across a complex, mission-driven organisation.

• You will be a fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) with significant experience in financial management within a complex organisation
• You will have strong business partnering and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence and challenge senior leaders and non-financial stakeholders
• As the Head of Finance Business Partnering, you will bring advanced financial modelling and analytical capability, including scenario planning, data interpretation, and translating insight into action
• You will have proven experience leading and developing high-performing teams, managing competing priorities and delivering to tight deadlines
• For this role, you will have experience in budgeting, forecasting and management reporting, ideally within the charity sector, including knowledge of restricted funds and compliance

Key details

Hours: Full-time: usual working hours are Monday to Friday, 09:00-17:00. Flexible working is possible.

Salary: £60,000 FTE per annum, plus 6% contributory pension scheme

Location: Hybrid (a mixture of home/onsite working): staff are working onsite for at least 20% of their working hours at our London site (4-8 Rodney Street, London N1 9JH). There may be occasions where additional office attendance is required, depending on business needs.

About Action Tutoring
At Action Tutoring, we believe every child should be given the opportunity to succeed in school. But in the UK today, young people from disadvantaged backgrounds are less likely to 

achieve the grades they need to progress in life. This isn't because they are any less able; they have less access to the tools to help them reach their potential. 
 

We don't think this is fair. We know tutoring is an effective way of improving academic attainment and so we harness the power of volunteer tutors to bridge the gap and ensure this help can be accessed by every pupil who needs it, not just those who can afford it. 
 

We specifically help pupils facing socio-economic disadvantage and who are at risk of leaving primary or secondary school without reaching national standards in their exams. We work in partnership with schools in different cities and regions across the UK, delivering weekly tutoring in English or maths to those pupils who need it most.

The Director of Finance and Operations works closely with the CEO to build the organisation, operations and systems to enable us to scale and respond to emerging opportunities. A critical strategic role, they are a hands-on financial leader that brings strategic insight and challenge. Finance

Lead financial strategy and long-term planning to support the development of the organisation, as well as holding overall responsibility for finance processes and controls. 
 

Operations

Drive continuous improvement of operations to increase productivity, quality of delivery and value for money. With the operations team, provide oversight of all operational matters to ensure compliance and the smooth running of the organisation.
 

HR and team development

Action Tutoring has a Head of People & Culture who oversees day-to-day HR operations. However, with a permanent staff team of around 60, this role holds strategic responsibility for talent development and HR processes. This includes training and development strategy, effective diversity and inclusion policies and regular reviews of performance and reward systems.
 

Senior Leadership 

As one of the four members of the Senior Leadership Team of Action Tutoring, you will contribute to leadership decision-making, representing your own areas of expertise but also advocating for the best strategic options for the charity as a whole. 
 

Legal compliance, risk management and governance

This role ensures legal compliance of the organisation.
 

Line management

Overseeing a small team, this role has direct line management responsibility for the Head of People & Culture, the Operations Manager, and the Senior Finance Officer. You will also, with support from your team, manage relationships with external support agencies, including the outsourced management accountant, IT support company, and HR and employment law consultancy.
 

This role also plays a key part in a number of internal working groups, including leading the Digital Systems working group and serving as a member of both the Sustainability and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion working groups.

We are looking for some of the following attributes, though you might be more experienced in some areas than others:

• Deep finance and operations experience as well as a track record of strategy development. You will have significant experience overseeing finances and managing budgets and be able to demonstrate a high level of understanding of financial management and forecasting within a fundraising setting. Familiarity with charity accounting and SORP will be essential. 
• Someone with the ability to see the big picture and lead long-term strategy while being able to zoom into the detail and set high-expectations for the team and wider organisation. 
• An excellent eye for detail and an experienced project manager who relishes delivering long-term projects through to completion, you will be a self-starter with a strong ability to take initiative to drive change.
• An ability to identify areas for organisational development and growth. You are someone who leads change and development. Alert to reputational risk, proactively preventing errors.
• An established track record in delivering results in a growing environment at the management level.
• Experience with a range of business functions and systems, including budgeting, finance, legal, IT and human resources or a willingness to build expertise in these areas.

Our partner, a well-established international organisation, is seeking an experienced senior finance leader to provide strategic support. This is a high-impact interim role, working closely with the CEO, senior leadership team and Board to ensure that any reviews of the organisation’s operating model are financially robust, evidence-based and deliverable.

The organisation is evolving its structure and ways of working in response to changes in the external funding environment and a desire to strengthen delivery across its global network. This role will play a key part in ensuring that financial planning, modelling and controls support this transition effectively.

Core Responsibilities

• Lead the development of a robust, evidence-based financial view of current and future operating approaches, including multi-year modelling, key assumptions and scenario analysis
