Duties

• To provide advice and casework support within the WLW advice team to our community members on housing, benefits, asylum support, immigration, health, education, finances, and other issues.

• To keep track of the progress of our members’ cases and ensure that they receive ongoing and holistic support.

• To support our members to understand their rights and entitlements in the areas of housing, benefits, asylum support, immigration, health, education, finances, and other issues.

• To ensure that casework records are compliant with WLW policies and procedures.

General Duties

• Work collaboratively within the WLW advice team to develop the team’s shared skills and knowledge and provide each other with support.

• Help build positive, collaborative relationships with other local and national organisations supporting refugees, asylum-seeking people and migrants.

• To gather data to contribute to the monitoring, evaluation of and reporting on WLW’s work for fundraising, communications, advocacy and reports.

• To attend staff meetings.

• To support with operational and general needs of the charity and staff team, such as with Felix Project groceries delivery, occasional Gail’s collection, and generally helping when and where required when extra help is needed.

Person Specification

Experience

• Essential: Experienced in advising and performing casework on housing/homelessness and benefits and other related issues for people newly granted refugee status and others with the right to remain in the UK.

• Essential: Experienced in advising those in the Home Office asylum system.

• Desirable: Immigration Advice Authority (IAA) Level 1 or Level 2 qualified in Asylum and Protection or Immigration.

• Essential: Up-to-date knowledge on one or more of the following issues: housing (particularly for refugees and asylum-seeking people), benefits, asylum support, immigration, community care, health, or related issues.

Media & Celebrity Assistant

Contract type: Permanent, Full Time, 35 hours per week

Location: London, UK subject to the right to work.

• Maintain and update contact and pitch lists for journalists
• Using our media monitoring system, produce monthly, quarterly and year-end reports

Requirements

To be successful, you’ll need:

CAFOD’s mission in the Catholic community of England and Wales is to inspire and equip Catholics to actively engage in the Church’s efforts to overcome poverty and injustice. People facing decades of prison time often completely lose connection with their family and friends on the outside. People leaving prison after 10 years will have different needs to those leaving after 10 months. The world has changed – there are different habits and new social norms. The Hardman Trust is at an exciting point in its development as it celebrates the arrival of its new team, the realisation of its first ever organisational strategy and looks forward to the next phase of its journey.

Casework & Training Lead Officer

Amicus provides representation for those facing the death penalty in the US.  We believe capital punishment is imposed disproportionately on the most vulnerable in society, violating their right to due process and to equal justice before the law.  Our aims are to provide better access to justice and to raise awareness of potential abuses of defendants' rights.

We are not primarily a campaigning organisation; rather, we believe we can make the greatest difference through frontline work, including via our extensive network of casework teams working on a variety of projects.

We’re seeking a Lead Officer to play a central role in the busy Amicus team, with the position’s focus being on casework and on training.  The role offers a great deal of variety: coordinating our busy casework programme of projects, including supporting caseworkers and teams; and leading in the delivery of training and educational events, especially those aimed at our casework teams.

You will be part of a small team, which means we all pitch in to help each other when necessary. Workload will be demanding at times, an ability to work across multiple tasks and to prioritise will be essential.  Given the critical and highly sensitive nature of our work, attention to detail, meeting deadlines and quality of work all are a high priority.  You will be interacting with law firms and volunteers all around the world, making communication skills essential for the role.

This is a hybrid role; there will be a requirement to be in our central London office, generally Thursday and Fridays, as well as for casework briefings at law firms as required within the working day, alongside some remote working. Office hours are Monday to Friday 10am to 6pm with an hour lunch break. We run two major training events each year that would require weekend working. We would consider part-time/job-share working for the right person/people.

Support of busy casework programme:

• Working closely with the Casework & Training Senior Manager, other staff and volunteers
• Coordinating with US defence teams, and with the academics involved in many of our projects  
• Supporting student casework projects
• Briefing teams of casework lawyers from the UK offices of international affiliate teams
• Keeping close links with the US affiliate capital punishment firms
• Support in recruiting new casework volunteer teams and in-house volunteers
