About the Department/ Team
RUSI’s Proliferation and Nuclear Policy (PNP) programme addresses issues raised by the development and spread of nuclear, chemical and biological weapons, and related technologies, through innovative research, dialogue and partnership with national and international bodies.
Main purpose of post
The PONI Project Manager will be responsible for delivery and development of the United Kingdom Project on Nuclear Issues (UK PONI), a flagship project for the PNP programme. Since 2009, UK PONI has helped to address the nuclear policy and technology challenges of tomorrow by developing and sustaining emerging nuclear specialists from industry, academia, government, and the military, and by connecting them with established experts. Its goal is to build a vibrant and diverse community of well-informed, well-connected and capable nuclear specialists in the UK.
To do this, it seeks to connect across boundaries, be they technical-policy, senior-junior, government and non-government, military-civilian, pro- and anti-nuclear, and internationally; it looks at ways it can help members of the nuclear community develop their knowledge and skills, including by promoting diversity of inclusion and representation; and it provides a platform for emerging talent, principally through its Annual Conference and through the UK PONI blog, Nuclear Reactions. UK PONI has great growth potential, and RUSI’s goal for the PM is to realise this by taking responsibility for driving the project forward, expanding funding and its membership, while maintaining the high standards of the existing programme and our established relationships.
Key tasks
The Project Manager will:

Oversee and implement the UK PONI strategy, ensuring effective delivery and alignment with the wider Proliferation and Nuclear Policy (PNP) programme.

Develop and implement communications and engagement strategies for the UK PONI community and funders, including managing newsletters, social media channels, and marketing activity to enhance reach, visibility, and impact.
-
Build and strengthen the UK PONI community both online and offline, fostering collaborations with PONI partners and other organisations and networks across the UK with an interest in nuclear issues.

Lead on the production and publication of UK PONI’s quarterly newsletter FUSION and the Nuclear Reactions series.

Plan, organise, and deliver UK PONI events, workshops, and conferences in the UK and abroad, providing full logistical and administrative support.

Prepare materials for meetings of the UK PONI Board of Advisors and support fundraising, business development, and ongoing liaison with funders.

Facilitate business planning and contribute to the development of annual work plans and strategic objectives.

Manage bids, grants, and financial reporting, including the creation and monitoring of budgets and submission of reports to funders.

Monitor project schedules, track team tasks, and collate programme-wide project management information to support effective delivery and coordination.

Deliver internal and external outreach and engagement activities to promote UK PONI’s work and strengthen stakeholder relationships.

Ensure that diversity and inclusion are embedded across all UK PONI activities, working with partners such as the Gender Champions in Nuclear Policy network, Women in International Security UK, Women of Colour Advancing Peace and Security UK, and Women in Nuclear UK.

PLEASE NOTE:

Role Overview
upReach is seeking to hire an Organisational Initiatives and Governance Manager. This is an exciting opportunity to work directly with upReach’s Senior Leadership Team (SLT) on strategic projects, internal communication, governance, and other internal and external initiatives.
The role will provide direct support to the SLT, building their capacity and enabling the charity to continue to grow and increase its impact. They will support the collection of key data for strategic decision making and take responsibility for regular and accurate reporting to our Boards, whilst also leading on the planning and delivery of several key projects. Projects they work on will include exploring how to best expand our work in Scotland and coordinating the cohesive delivery of work that falls under the umbrella of our ‘Double Benefit’ approach.
Whilst Governance and the support provided to the SLT will remain consistent in this role, organisational initiatives will change over time, depending on where it is agreed with the SLT that the ROI is greatest and can best achieve upReach’s overarching mission.
Core Responsibilities
The Organisational Initiatives and Governance Manager will report to the Director of People and Strategy and work on initiatives and projects that the SLT believe will help us to best achieve our mission. In addition to this, the Organisational Initiatives and Governance Manager will also work closely with the SLT to provide governance and operational support. This will include coordinating with Trustees to organise the yearly calendar of governance events and preparing papers for Trustees, Advisory Board and Services meetings, including the Annual Report.
This role will require influencing and collaboration in order to deliver upReach’s mission through a range of stakeholders across the team.
Core responsibilities will include:
1) Strategic Projects & Organisational Initiatives

Be the operational driver of organisational initiatives, as agreed on by SLT, that have an impact on the success of upReach’s mission and our impact on Associates across the country.

Projects may be outward facing or operational in scope, depending on what is deemed to be of most importance at the time. They may also be at different stages in their life cycle, and as such, the role may require initial exploration phases, creation of implementation plans and the coordination of different teams to complete and assess success, as required by the specific initiative.

Attending meetings and following up with key stakeholders to ensure the completion of relevant projects to a high standard.

Collaborating with a variety of stakeholders to gather and report key information, along with recommendations, to the SLT or other senior managers.
2) Governance & Leadership Support

Preparing papers and required documents for Trustees, Advisory Board and Services meetings, including the yearly Annual Report.

This may also include supporting internal communications and calendar management for the SLT (for example, organising the yearly governance calendar).
3) National Development & Expansion
-
Be the champion for upReach’s national development strategy, ensuring there is understanding and buy-in across the team regarding the importance of upReach’s growth outside of London with respect to social mobility coldspots and existing regional presence and tracking OKRs related to this.

Drive plans regarding how best upReach can expand its work in Scotland. Having recently successfully registered as a Scottish charity we are exploring what expansion could and should look like, and this role will work on the practicalities regarding how upReach can sustainably support more students in Scotland. Pending approval of plans from the SLT and Board, the role would lead on enacting the agreed upon approach.

Liaison with relevant departments to collaborate on prospect fundraising, university and employer partnerships, as well as student attraction and onboarding activities, will be required as part of this initiative.

4) Double Benefit Approach

Have oversight of a cohesive, deliberate programme of Double Benefit effective practice at upReach, working across teams to do so. This will include:

Supporting the Events team in the creation of the agenda and delivery of the annual Championing Change event in collaboration with Bank of America, bringing together employers across industries to promote inclusion and social mobility.

Support work on policy being led by the Marketing and Communications Team to ensure it is cohesive with our wider Double Benefit approach.
-
Coordinating with the Partnerships team regarding use of our Employer Engagement Toolkit and any bespoke consultancy or training requested.
-
This role will also provide line management for 1-2 members of our Future Charity Leaders Programme one day per week, as they work on a six month ‘rotation’ in the areas described above.

The Opportunity

Overall purpose
The Employer Engagement Manager (EEM) will play a critical role in ensuring refugees supported by Breaking Barriers access meaningful, opportunities that align with client needs and labour market demand. The postholder will lead employer outreach and partnership building in priority sectors and embed consistent systems and processes that make employer engagement coordinated and impactful across the organisation. The EEM will support pathways, work placements, recruitment pipelines and workshops by ensuring employer input is actively embedded where relevant.
This is a strategic, hands-on role, the successful candidate will map and cultivate employer relationships, secure employer input into sector pathways, workshops and recruitment initiatives, translate labour market intelligence into programme improvements, and design the operational processes that enable Programmes and Corporate Partnerships to work together effectively. You will operate in a matrix environment, collaborating closely with the Programmes, Corporate Partnerships and Client Services teams but will not hold direct line-management of delivery staff.
The role is set up to be ambitious but achievable within 12 months. SUMMARY OF ROLE
The PR & Marketing Manager is a specialist media and storytelling lead within RABI’s Marketing and Communications team, with a core focus on strengthening the charity’s voice across agricultural, regional and national media. This pivotal role requires a journalistically minded communications professional with a strong track record in media engagement, story sourcing, and reactive PR. With a firm grasp of audience insight, campaign messaging and fast-paced content development, the postholder will manage all inbound media enquiries, drive proactive press activity, and lead the creation of compelling editorial and campaign copy that elevates RABI’s brand and influence.
The role reports to the Senior Strategic Communications Manager and is supported by the Marketing & Communications Coordinator. It will work closely with colleagues across the organisation to uncover impactful stories, draft powerful messaging and manage time-sensitive responses. This role is ideal for a media professional with experience in journalism, public relations or press office environments who brings a blend of creativity, copywriting skill, and newsroom agility.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
PR and Media Relations
- Lead the delivery of RABI’s press office function, including proactive media outreach, reactive response, and managing journalist relationships.
- Continually scope, plan and deliver media engagement activity to secure positive and frequent press coverage across agricultural, health, regional, and national media.

The Job

The successful candidate will ensure that the team of Assistance Dog Trainers develop our puppies and dogs in advanced to training to ensure they receive the highest standard of socialisation and training, thereby maximising their chances of becoming a Medical Alert Assistance Dog. The welfare of our dogs is very important to us. We have a no-kennel policy, and all our dogs live in the homes of volunteers until they are about 20 months old. We are committed to providing quality training and support for all our dogs and the volunteers who look after them.
The role involves working collaboratively across teams and managing stakeholders to streamline the process of training and placing Assistance Dogs.
Specific Responsibilities
Puppies:
- To liaise with the Dog Supply Advisor on puppy intake
- To support and guide the Puppy Assistance Dog Trainers, with all aspects related to socialising and training of puppies from 8 weeks of age to approximately 16 months of age. This will include observing and supporting in:

Practical knowledge and experience in the following areas:
- Had management or team leader experience for a minimum of 2 years within an ADUK Dog Training team.
- ADUK and ADI regulations.
- Basic theory of practical dog training.
- Law in relation to dogs.
- Knowledge of medical conditions relevant to puppies between 8 weeks and 2 years of age.
- Dog and human psychology.
- Health and safety implications of dog and puppy socialiser handling. Some experience of assisting with the training and development of less experienced colleagues.

SUMMARY OF ROLE
This is a pivotal new role within RABI’s Marketing & Communications team, managing the planning and delivery of RABI’s presence at high-profile agricultural, corporate and external affairs events throughout the year, whilst overseeing the management and deployment of volunteers and ambassadors at shows and local engagement activities across England and Wales. The Events & Engagement Manager will ensure that all activities reflect RABI’s values and strategic goals and that our network of volunteers and ambassadors are expertly managed and supported.
You’ll be responsible for managing a high-performing events function, overseeing two Events and Marketing Coordinators and working collaboratively across the charity to ensure RABI is visible, active and engaged across the sector. You will bring experience, professionalism and a hands-on approach to deliver high-quality, mission-driven events that drive brand awareness and build relationships across our community.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Leadership of Events and Ambassador Programme
- Lead the development and implementation of a national events strategy that reflects RABI’s priorities and enhances the charity’s presence across rural and farming communities.
- Build and maintain a comprehensive events and shows calendar, ensuring a coordinated and strategic approach to regional and national opportunities.
- Work closely with RABI’s Fundraising, External Affairs and Volunteering teams to ensure events, conferences and shows are aligned with RABI’s strategic objectives and are on brand.
- Lead and develop RABI’s new Ambassador programme, working in collaboration with the Volunteering department to launch the programme from pilot to national rollout.
Agricultural Shows and Sector Representation
- Take a leading role in managing RABI’s presence at key agricultural shows and rural events (e.g. Royal Welsh Show, Great Yorkshire Show, Oxford Farming Conference, LAMMA).
- Oversee the end-to-end delivery of shows and events attendance including logistics, stand design, staffing, promotional materials, health and safety and evaluation.
- Represent RABI at events with professionalism and warmth, acting as a visible ambassador and engaging with supporters, stakeholders and the public.
- Build strong relationships with show organisers and agricultural networks to secure prominent placements and collaborative opportunities.
Event Management and Delivery
- Project manage a range of events including:
- National and regional agriculture shows and conferences
- Volunteer and ambassador engagement events
- Rural community outreach and partnership events
- Ensure all events are delivered to a high standard, on time and within budget.
- Oversee and manage logistics including venue hire, AV, accommodation, transport, catering, health and safety and accessibility.
- Manage risks and ensure compliance with RABI’s policies, safeguarding protocols and relevant regulations.
Team Leadership and Development
- Line-manage two Events and Marketing Coordinators, providing regular support, mentoring and performance reviews.
- Foster a collaborative and proactive culture within the team, encouraging innovation and continuous improvement.
- Delegate effectively and ensure clarity of roles and responsibilities across the team.
Cross-Team Collaboration
- Work closely with your colleagues in the Communications team to plan promotional content for each event (print, digital and social media).
- Contribute to the wider communications planning cycle, identifying storytelling opportunities arising from events.
- Coordinate with Fundraising, External Affairs and Volunteering colleagues to ensure event activity supports supporter engagement and community mobilisation.
Monitoring, Reporting and Evaluation
- Monitor event budgets, track expenditure and provide clear financial reports.
- Gather and analyse attendee feedback, media coverage and impact data to evaluate the success of each event.
- Produce regular updates for the Senior Strategic Communications Manager and Head of Marketing and Communications.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential
- A minimum 5 years’ experience working in a successful Events team at a managerial level.
- Proven experience in managing a broad portfolio of events, ideally within the charity, agricultural or rural affairs sectors.
- Demonstrable experience of line-management and overseeing the management of volunteers/ambassadors
- Proven experience leading high-profile public-facing events such as exhibitions, trade shows and external affairs events
- Excellent organisational and project management skills with a high attention to detail.
- Confident communicator and relationship builder, able to represent the charity with professionalism and warmth.
- Comfortable working flexibly, including occasional evenings, weekends and national travel.
- Understanding of health and safety and safeguarding considerations in event delivery
- Full UK driving licence.

- Previous experience in rural or farming events
- Welsh language proficiency (spoken and/or written) is desirable for this role, to support effective comms and engagement with Welsh-speaking stakeholders and communities.
