Salary: £43,000 per annum

Main purpose of role: To manage the day-to-day running of our grant programmes to organisations and support the practical implementation of any new grant programmes from application process through to due diligence and record maintenance.

Main duties and responsibilities:  

Grant management 

• Act as the first point of contact for grants to organisations.
• Manage a portfolio of organisational grants that deliver our theory of change outcomes.
• Provide full grant management of our organisational grants, including: preparing grant deeds, keeping track of payments and reporting requirements, distilling learning, to grant renewal considerations.
• Organise and conduct regular meetings with funded organisations to learn alongside organisations and see the work in action.
• Implement grant making processes that reflect best practice and encourage learning through our grant making. 
• Keep up-to-date with changes and developments in the external environment and work with colleagues to reflect this in strategy and practice.

Grant programme development 

• Undertaking scoping and research for new grant programmes, and developing practical knowledge about new programme areas as required.
• Providing project management support for new grant programmes alongside the Senior Grants Manager.
• Taking a lead on the negotiation of new grant agreements.
• Managing the day-to-day processes required by any new grant programme from concept through to advertising the fund, assessing grant applications, due diligence, writing recommendation papers to trustees, to awarding funding and gathering and sharing learning.

Other activities  

• Working with the Impact team to develop our monitoring and evaluation capabilities with funded organisations.
• Working with the Partnerships and Participation Manager and Policy and Best Practice Manager to ensure that our grant making processes are informed by the key stakeholders. 
• Working with our fundraising and communication team to ensure we are communicating effectively with supporters about our work.

You’ll ensure that accurate records are maintained and that we are reporting our accounts in line with SORP guidelines. 

You will lead on the ongoing development and maintenance of our finance systems, policies and procedures, ensuring they are fit for purpose for a growing organisation.

Senior Philanthropy Manager
Location: King's Cross, London (hybrid)

Art Fund is the UK’s national fundraising charity for art. We give grants to help museums, galleries, historic houses and public arts organisations to acquire objects for their collections, to share them with as many people as possible, and to support research and training for museum professionals. As Senior Philanthropy Manager, you’ll play a key role in the Development team by securing income towards a range of programmes, projects and appeals for museums and galleries across the UK. You will manage our Art Partners (patrons) programme, leading and developing all aspects including recruitment, stewardship and events, and delivering the strategy for growth. Grant Assessment Manager

What are we looking for?

You don’t have to be a football fan to join the Foundation, but you must have a detailed understanding of grant application and grant giving processes and governance, coupled with an ability to effectively apply this knowledge to provide high levels of customer service. You’ll have experience of critiquing and assessing grant applications, as well as an understanding of the operations, requirements and challenges faced by community organisations, statutory bodies and not-for-profits.

You must have strong communication and interpersonal skills with experience of communicating with and supporting a diverse range of colleagues and applicants remotely, as well as experience of producing detailed reports for decision-makers.

Grant Assessment Managers must be highly organised, with the ability to respond flexibly to changing priorities, adapting their approach for each programme to ensure governance and compliance requirements are met.

Job Information

We’re looking for a creative-loving Marketing Communications person to join our digital content team at Hospice UK. It’s a really exciting chance to jump into a pivotal role here, and facilitate much of the great visual content that we produce as a team.

You’ll be working with some lovely people in the wider Communications and Campaigns team, which is part of an External Affairs directorate. We’re a small, close-knit department but already this year we’ve achieved some truly mighty results – not least, our recent rebrand, new strategy and new visual identity.

As you might imagine, working at a hospice charity brings with it some truly compassionate people. It’s a really lovely place to work because the people make it so. As Senior Marketing Communications Officer, you’d be part of a team of three, including your line manager (Senior Digital Marketing & Campaign Manager), and Membership Communications Officer.

And yes – as a hospice charity, we do work with death and dying on a daily basis. But it’s not all doom and gloom. Actually, by talking about it, writing about it and sharing stories about it, we’re helping to remove the stigma and taboo that it often comes with. And those stories and communications help give people hope, strength and confidence, sometimes when they need it most.

As Senior Marketing Communications Officer, you’ll be looking after a lot of our more creative, aesthetic products and projects. You might already be working as a Marketing or Digital Marketing Officer or Coordinator, and looking for the next step for your career. Or you could be an established Marcomms professional searching for a new challenge. Maybe you’ve already been in a marketing management position and want to get back to doing what you love!

Either way, you’ll be pretty knowledgeable on how to look after digital channels like social media and websites, and will have some experience of both. You might have some photoshoot management and video projects under your belt too, and ideally you’ll have experience of managing a digital asset management system. The role will also involve some print project knowledge, so it would be really handy if you’ve looked after relationships with designers, printers and know how the process works (and what gsm our new Impact Report should be, for example!)

We don’t expect you to be a brand specialist, but hopefully you’ll have experience of working with an organisation’s brand book, tone of voice and visual identity guidelines. That’s because many people in other teams here will turn to you for guidance on how to use our new brand, which logo or font to use, and requests to source appropriate photography in our house style.

We’re looking to bolster our content and storytelling about compelling hospice care, and we’d love someone to join us with ideas on how to elevate that, and help source and write those stories up for us. Part of your role as Senior Marketing Communications Officer will be to help produce content – stories, videos, photos, resources – to our two major national campaigns: Hospice Care Week, and Dying Matters Awareness Week. Check out what we did for the latter: a beautifully animated film and stories of the people in it.

Summary:

The HALO Trust are looking for an experienced and driven Philanthropy and Grants Manager to lead and develop high value relationships with philanthropic donors, with a focus on Trust and Foundations (and potentially corporates). 

The Global Philanthropy Team works to secure support for the delivery of vital projects to save lives and protect livelihoods in conflict affected countries around the world, as well as build organisational resilience and support innovative areas of work.  HALO’s philanthropic income has grown significantly in recent years, driven by introductions from our network of trustees, ambassadors and advocates and our focus on strategic and transformational partnerships. We are a small team of highly skilled, experienced and driven fundraisers with a collaborative team culture. The team is supported by a Philanthropy Operations Manager, Philanthropy Assistant and Global Philanthropy Research and Insight Lead (who leads on research and due diligence). In 2024 a Head of Philanthropy and Partnerships for the Middle East will join our team to lead relationship development in this key market.

• Lead growth within a portfolio of high value (six and potentially seven figure) relationships by providing excellence in supporter stewardship and through the development and delivery of relationship strategies, in collaboration with the Director of Philanthropy and Head of Global Grant Partnerships
• Support senior HALO staff, advocates and trustees to engage and inspire individuals linked to agreed relationships
• Work with international programme teams to ensure the development of high-quality proposals and reports to tight deadlines
• Contribute to departmental strategic priorities including supporting the stewardship of other major relationships, follow up of new opportunities, and the development of philanthropic products for wider use. Deputise for the Head of Global Grant Partnerships where required

• Work closely with Philanthropy and Partnerships (Gov funding) colleagues in the USA, UK, Europe, Middle East and overseas programs as part of a distributed team to provide support to global fundraising efforts

Essential Requirements:

• Three years' experience of personally leading successful relationships with high value philanthropic donors (Trust and Foundations, corporates or high net worth individuals or equivalent), including those giving at the six or seven figure level
• Experience of building effective relationships with advocates linked to philanthropic donors
• An excellent communicator with the ability to build relationships with staff and colleagues in different cultural environments
• Outstanding written skills with the ability to work with programme and finance colleagues to design robust project proposals, reporting, and monitoring and evaluation
• Confident in working with financial information including project budgets
• Excellent written and verbal skills with strong attention to detail
• Outstanding interpersonal skills including ability to demonstrate tact, sophistication and gravitas 
• Experience of working with a fundraising database to maximise relationship development
• A commitment to HALO’s mission and objectives

The Senior Fundraising Officer will play a key role in the Fundraising Team helping to generate significant and increased income from charitable trusts and foundations and corporate partners.

The role will be responsible for ensuring a regular pipeline of new and existing income from both areas and ensuring partners are stewarded appropriately to maximise engagement with the charity’s aims and objectives.

The post holder will:

• Identify, research and develop new trusts and foundations leads.
• Proactively oversee and grow relationships with trusts and foundations that give four and five figure grants, identifying opportunities to strengthen relationships utilising meetings, project visits, informal updates and monitoring and reporting as appropriate.
• Produce formal reports to funders regularly as directed by grant giving bodies.
• Maintain accurate records to support reporting requirements and forward planning.
• To be proactive in cultivating relationships with potential new funders
• To identify relevant statistics and research to contribute to applications.
• Working with colleagues from across QAC to be able to produce compelling cases for support.
• Writing up case studies and developing other content to be used for applications but also within the wider fundraising functions.
• Identify business networking opportunities for QAC to be promoted within identifying new potential business partners.
• To work alongside the Fundraising Officer to build upon and develop our current corporate engagement events.
• Stewardship and engagement of businesses supporting QAC.

Job Description

Delivering the philanthropy plan​

• Manage the philanthropy programme at Bookmark, working with the Head of Fundraising to grow the major donor portfolio within the wider strategy​
• Lead a team of three to deliver on the fundraising strategy, providing direction, support and guidance. Line manage the Philanthropy Manager and support their professional development ​
• Work with trustees, staff, and our wonderfully supportive Partnerships Board to build a robust pipeline of supporters and secure introductions ​
• Own and build a portfolio of new major donors through the full donor cycle who give £25,000 or more, ensuring a first-class cultivation and stewardship journey​
• Lead on the philanthropy events strategy and programme, providing support to the Philanthropy Manager and wider team in delivering income generating, cultivation and stewardship events ​
• Create compelling, relevant and tailored funding proposals, reports and collateral to inspire and inform donors, reflecting Bookmark’s strong brand​
• Work closely with the Corporate Partnerships team to ensure opportunities to maximise income for the fundraising team​

Person specification​

Essential​

• A successful track record in high value fundraising and acquisition, including a proven track record of securing five or six-figure gifts, to meet or exceed targets​
• Experience line managing individuals, nurturing their development and managing their performance to achieve results​
• Excellent understanding of complex relationship-based fundraising from high-net worth individuals and/or grant making organisations​
• Experience developing and managing a calendar of successful charity events that meet fundraising targets​
• Great verbal communication skills, a passion for presenting and public speaking​

• In order to realise this ambition, we need to increase our fundraised income for the period 2024 -2027 to £1.6million.
   
• Through this new organisational role, you’ll proactively create and grow fundraising income opportunities with individuals, community groups and grant giving trusts and foundations. • You’ll work closely with and support the CEO of Eastbourne Foodbank in maintaining and evolving the existing relationship with the Big Lottery Fund and developing collaborative fundraising activities and joint bids with five other Trussell Trust Foodbanks across East Sussex.
