Job description

The British Heart Foundation (BHF) seeks to appoint two newly-created positions within its Philanthropy team. The Senior Philanthropy Leads will both be experienced major gift fundraisers, who will work with a range of prospects and donors to help transform the BHF’s income through philanthropy.

The BHF is the largest independent funder of cardiovascular research in the UK and one of the biggest in the world. Since its creation more than 50 years ago, the charity has worked tirelessly to solve a global problem, and research funded by the BHF has had worldwide impact for those affected by heart and circulatory diseases. Despite this progress, heart and circulatory diseases are still the world’s biggest killers. One in four people in the UK still die of cardiovascular diseases and the figure is even higher around the world.

About the role

The BHF believes that the revolutions taking place in medicine and technology will provide solutions to the human tragedy and economic burden of cardiovascular disease. To realise its ambitions, the BHF needs to raise significant additional funds to accelerate and drive critical research. Raising funds through philanthropy is a key plank of its income generating strategy for the next ten years.

With over 180 members of staff in the Fundraising directorate, the BHF has recently reviewed its fundraising strategy, and aims to deliver an ambitious, world class, supporter-centric fundraising programme for the whole charity.

Working closely with the newly-appointed Director of Philanthropy, the Senior Philanthropy Lead(s) will drive a programme of major gifts from individuals and charitable foundations. This is a rare and special opportunity to help build a dynamic and successful philanthropy team at a world-renowned charity, directly funding ground-breaking research that will save and improve the lives of people affected by cardiovascular disease in this country and around the world.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have a demonstrable track record in major gift fundraising.  You’ll be entrepreneurial and results-driven with outstanding communication and influencing skills and the presence, gravitas and intellect to operate effectively at all levels. You will be at ease working closely with senior teams across the BHF, including senior academic or clinical colleagues, senior volunteers and prospects capable of giving at the 6- and 7-figure level.

If you support the BHF’s vision of a world free from the fear of heart and circulatory diseases and want to join a new team determined to make its mark, then we would love to hear from you.

About us

At the BHF we understand that you might need a little help balancing your work and home life. Many of our people work flexibly in many different ways. Please feel free to talk to us about the flexibility you may need; we’re happy to explore what’s possible for you and the role. Here at the British Heart Foundation we celebrate diversity and make inclusion part of what we do every day. Diversity and Inclusion forms a main pillar in our People Experience Strategy and we drive our strategy through our diversity and inclusion leaders group Kaleidoscope. Our aim is for all of our colleagues and volunteers to bring their true self to work, so we can beat heartbreak for everyone.
