The Opportunity

This is a new and significant appointment for SWT UK. We are looking for a Director of Development to develop and lead our UK fundraising strategy – taking ownership of income generation across all streams, donor communications and supporter stewardship, and managing a team of three talented fundraising professionals.

Our individual supporter base is large globally – growing in UK – loyal and deeply engaged: many give through our elephant adoption programme, which connects them directly with named animals in our care. We are now ready to build on this engaged supporter base and develop it into a structured individual giving programme – with mid-level giving pathways, major donor cultivation, systematic stewardship and deeper philanthropic relationships. That is the central challenge and opportunity of this role.

We also have active corporate and trust relationships, a legacy programme in development, and real potential to grow income from European and international funders. The Director of Development will take ownership of all of this – hands on and strategic in equal measure.

What You Will Do

• Develop and implement a new UK fundraising strategy, establishing clear priorities, income targets and programmes that will drive growth through to 2030 and beyond
• Develop and implement a UK individual giving programme – building on our adoption base to create structured giving journeys, mid-level and major donor cultivation, and meaningful stewardship
• Manage the UK fundraising budget, set and monitor income targets across all streams, and report regularly to the Executive Director on performance and ROI
• Take day-to-day ownership of corporate and trust relationships, writing reports, proposals and partner communications
• Build a major donor programme from the ground up, identifying and cultivating high-value individual prospects
• Develop legacy marketing activity, working alongside our existing legacy administrator and Freewill partnership
• Manage and inspire a team of three: Communications and Fundraising Manager, Retail Manager and Supporter Care Officer, and Fundraising Support Officer
• Oversee the donor database (Donorfy), ensuring data quality and insight-driven decision making
• Explore opportunities to grow income from European and international donors
• Contribute to the global income picture, including through improved donor stewardship and deeper supporter engagement
• Support the growth of SWT's profile and visibility in the UK through press opportunities, social media, and other channels.

About You

We are looking for a fundraiser who loves the craft – someone who is energised by building relationships, writing a compelling proposal, developing a giving programme from scratch, and ensuring every supporter feels genuinely valued. This is a hands-on role as much as a leadership one, and the right person will be comfortable doing both.

• Proven track record in fundraising, with demonstrable success securing income from individuals, trusts or corporates – including five-figure gifts and above
• Experience developing individual giving programmes, including mid-level or major donor cultivation
• A hands-on practitioner – comfortable writing proposals, reports and donor communications yourself
• Experience managing a small fundraising team with warmth, clarity and accountability
• Strong relationship management and stewardship skills
• Experience working with a donor CRM and using data to inform fundraising decisions
• Comfortable in a building role – excited by developing programmes that don't yet exist
• Experience managing fundraising budgets and producing income forecasts and performance reports.
• Genuine passion for wildlife conservation – this role is for someone who cares about the cause

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES 

Individual Giving 

• Lead the planning, execution and optimisation of individual giving efforts. Manage campaign setup, timelines, assets, and donor experience.  

• Monitor performance and analyse results to drive continuous improvement in participation, engagement, and revenue.  

• Collaborate with Admissions and Marketing, and other internal teams, to source and develop compelling content.  

• Along with the Head of Development, manage a fundraising communications calendar and play a leading role in content creation.  

• Collaborate with the Admissions and Marketing team to ensure website content, landing pages, and donation pages support digital giving goals.  

• Execute fundraising strategies in partnership with the Head of Development. Build, segment, code, and deploy emails to support giving campaigns and organisational priorities.  

• Manage a portfolio of donors linked to specific programmes and campaigns. 

Legacies  

• Plan and deliver multi-channel legacy marketing campaigns (print, digital, events)  

• Build and maintain relationships with legacy pledgers and prospects  

• Deliver high-quality, sensitive stewardship to recognise and retain legacy supporters  

• Organise events and communications to engage legacy supporters  

• Produce compelling and sensitive legacy messaging and materials  

Campaign/Programmes 

• Manage and grow the patrons programme, including recruitment, retention, and upgrades  

• Develop a clear donor journey, including benefits, communications, and recognition  

• Monitor performance against income targets and KPIs  

• Work in collaboration with Heads of the Creative Arts programmes to monitor and administer funds for maximum impact across the arts 

Foundation Places and Enrichment Fund 

• Support impact reporting and administration of discrete aspects of our widening access programmes. 

• Manage application process to the Enrichment Fund, including managing enquiries, disbursements and liaison with Finance. 

• Any other duties related to these programmes as directed by senior staff. 

IDEAL CANDIDATE 

Essential: 

• Relevant degree, professional qualification or equivalent professional experience  

• Demonstrable experience in Individual Giving, Direct Marketing or Legacy fundraising, with an annual income return of 6+ figures  

• Proven track record of delivering successful multi-channel campaigns  

• Strong understanding of supporter journeys, acquisition and retention  

• Skilled in data analysis, performance tracking and forecasting   

• Proficiency with graphic design tools, experience with Canva would be an advantage.  

• Demonstrable experience with Raisers Edge, or similar CRM system 

• Ability to manage complex projects and programs and deliver to set KPI and timelines 

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.  

• Experience with content writing, brand voice, and digital fundraising best practices.  

• Ability to build and foster relationships across business functions.  

• Understanding of charity law, GDPR and best practices in fundraising

Who you are:

As a fundraising generalist, you will be well organised, provide strong administrative support, give excellent supporter care, write strong copy and be able to coordinate content creation.

Ideally you will have fundraising experience across a variety of relevant income streams, although we are interested to hear from candidates who have relevant transferable skills.

You will be able to ensure good collaboration between the Development Department and other teams, such as Communications and Operations, to make sure we maximise our fundraising activity.

The role:

You’ll be working alongside a Digital Fundraising Lead, Philanthropy Lead, Head of Development and wider team of friendly communicators, campaigners and change-makers. Home-based, you will enjoy collaborating, as well as being able to work independently. As a self-starter, you enjoy seeing projects through from start to end and get a buzz from the fast-paced and varied charity fundraising environment.

You’ll join us in maximising the value of Engaging Networks, a digital communications and campaigning platform, alongside our new fundraising CRM, Beacon. Experience with these specific platforms, or experience of utilising other CRMs for fundraising success, is desirable.

Primary duties:

• You will be responsible for continuing to grow our legacy programme, implementing the strategy developed by the Head of Development. This will include drafting copy and working with a designer to create evergreen legacy content, creating and maintaining content for our website, coordinating and drafting legacy communications and campaigns, managing legacy enquiries, thanking and stewarding legacy pledgers, and managing the legacy pipeline in Beacon.

• You will support our community fundraising strategy. This will mean making sure we have the tools and information for supporters to fundraise for us, whether that be in memory of a loved one, delivering their own fundraising initiatives in aid of The Humane League UK, or through peer-to-peer fundraising. This will include responding to enquiries, thanking and stewarding community fundraisers, coordinating a small amount of external-facing content, creating evergreen content, such as a toolkit that fundraisers can use, creating and updating content for the website, and responding to opportunities that arise, which could include community speaking opportunities, or stalls at events.

• You will support our corporate fundraising offering, ensuring we have the tools and information for businesses to support THL UK in a variety of ways. This will include responding to enquiries, thanking and responding to corporate donors and fundraisers, taking advantage of opportunities, promoting initiatives such as payroll giving, coordinating the creation of evergreen corporate fundraising content, such as a fundraising toolkit for businesses, and creating and updating content for the website.

• You will support our Operations Team, who respond to fundraising email enquiries, and the Development Team, as well as the wider organisation, by coordinating and maintaining FAQs of the most common fundraising queries we receive. This will help consolidate this information in one place, making sure we are consistent, streamlined and efficient in our responses. You will also work with our digital team to find a way to make sure information is accessible to supporters to minimise incoming queries wherever possible.

• You will be responsible for reviewing, investigating, reporting and responding to any fundraising complaints we receive, including escalating these where necessary.

• You will complete due diligence on donors and donations where required. This will include desktop research, completing relevant forms and information in Beacon, and making sure relevant approvals are obtained before accepting donations or approaching new donors or funders.

• You will coordinate essential thanking activities for key donors and supporters. This will include coordinating the design and printing of thanking cards, and other relevant stewardship materials or merchandise, to be utilised by those across the organisation, including to support our volunteers. You will also coordinate thanking campaigns (e.g. thanking monthly donors and major donors), which will involve collating recipient lists, getting cards designed and printed, and coordinating staff and trustees to sign and send.

• You will provide vital administrative support for events, including our annual presence at conferences such as EA Global in London, as well as our own annual supporter event. This could include collating guest lists, staff registration, coordinating invitations and RSVP’s, managing room bookings, hotels and catering, coordinating staff and trustees, and completing risk assessments.

• You will produce clear, accurate and engaging written communications, and coordinate the creation of content. This could mean drafting content for the website, drafting emails, building emails in Engaging Networks, or supporting our Digital Fundraising Lead with developing evergreen content to support our digital fundraising initiatives.

• You will support our Digital Fundraising Lead to make sure our growing pool of monthly donors are thanked and stewarded appropriately, including utilising Beacon, automations and supporter journeys to make the most efficient use of our time.

• You will support our Digital Fundraising Lead to deliver our digital fundraising strategy, by executing relevant aspects, which could include supporting specific campaigns, or building and maintaining fundraising related automations.

• You will help us deliver effective fundraising training and induction materials, such as for new staff and trustee orientations. This could also include coordinating additional training materials, how-to-guides and supporting materials, that are essential in maintaining relevant fundraising knowledge at THL UK.

In addition:

• Utilise our CRM: adding and updating supporter data, generating relevant reports, and analysing and evaluating data to inform campaigns and activities as required.

• Working with Communications and the Digital Fundraising Lead to deliver activities for our donor recruitment and retention.

• Work with the wider Development Team to input into our Development Strategy, as directed by the Head of Development, offering ideas and suggestions to help deliver the strategy and grow income across various income streams.

• Liaise with and coordinate support from third-parties / external consultants where necessary, such as providing support for specific campaigns or projects, and / or providing fundraising materials.

• Help us galvanise further support by lending your organisational skills to fundraising events.

• Attending conferences and events.

• Updating the wider team on fundraising progress.

• Participating in team meetings including note-taking and facilitation.

• Attending in-person workshops several times a year.

Purpose

The Living Wage Foundation is seeking an experienced and driven Senior Media and Communications Manager to join our team for a 12-month contract. This is an exciting opportunity for a highly organised and proactive communications professional with a strong background in media relations, public messaging, and team leadership. The ideal candidate will be experienced and confident in working to tight deadlines, responding to last-minute changes, and prioritising competing demands in a high-profile environment. They will be motivated to amplify the Living Wage Foundation’s mission of tackling low pay and insecure work.

The postholder will lead all media, messaging, and external affairs work, developing and implementing a proactive media strategy that supports our mission and key campaigns, such as Living Wage Week and the annual Rates announcement. As a skilled media professional, you will oversee all communications outputs, ensuring consistency and strategic alignment, while delivering media training and refining key messaging to maximise reach and impact. 

In this role, you will be instrumental in advancing our political engagement efforts, building cross-party support and working with political leaders, mayoral teams, and other key stakeholders to promote our initiatives. You’ll manage two direct reports (Events Manager and Media Manager) who each hold line management responsibilities, and you will play a critical role within our Senior Management Team, collaborating closely with the Head of Communications to shape the overall direction of our communications work. This role will work closely with Citizens UK colleagues, including the Citizens UK communications team on cross-organisational priorities.  You will report to the Head of Communications.

University Hospitals Birmingham Charity consists of four hospital charities supporting some of the busiest hospitals in Birmingham – Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, Heartlands Hospital, Good Hope Hospital and Solihull Hospital.

Being in hospital can be really tough physically and emotionally. This is why our hospital charities do as much as they can to help patients and their families feel as supported as possible during their treatment.

Each hospital charity provides the added extras that are "over and above" what the NHS can fund as standard. This includes life-saving equipment, state-of-the-art facilities, training and research, as well as free accommodation and patient comforts.

Across UHB Charity we are currently raising funds for a Total Body PET CT Scanner as well as our Children's and Newborn Appeals and Home from Home accommodation for civilians and military personnel, to name just a few.

As a Legacy Administrator you will help us raise much needed funds that will make a real difference to our patients and their families.

JOB SUMMARY

This role is primarily based at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, with the expectation of occasional travel to other hospital sites.

This post is within the Fundraising Team at University Hospitals Birmingham Charity, which is the official charity of Heartlands Hospital, Good Hope Hospital, Solihull Hospital and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.

This is a new role within the Charity Team. In this role, you will be a crucial part in ensuring that all legacies to the charity are administered in a timely and sensitive manner, maintaining and building great relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.

This role will involve occasional evening and weekend work at charity events and events organised by our supporters. 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES

• Work with the Senior Fundraising Officer responsible for Legacies to actively manage a varied caseload
• Handle a mixture of pecuniary, residuary and reversionary legacy cases
• Tailor your approach to each case depending on the circumstances, having a flexible approach whilst ensuring that all gifts are administered in a timely manner
• Work to optimise University Hospitals Birmingham Charity legacy income where appropriate
• Ensure that all bequests to UHB Charity are received and utilised, in accordance with UHB Charity policies
• Maintain your knowledge of current legislation
• Play an active role in the wider legacy team and promoting Gifts in Wills where necessary
• Working alongside the Stewardship Team, ensuring accurate data inputting and correspondence both written and verbal with supporters
• Managing and prioritising unpredictable and frequently interrupted busy workload.
• Working with and deliver clear objectives and key performance indicators.
•  Proactively contributing to the achievement of targets and the ongoing fundraising success of the Charity as a whole and to be a supportive, effective and collegiate team member.

COMMUNICATION

• Relaying accurate and timely information to the fundraising team, communications team, grants team and stewardship team. Communicating with donors and fundraisers.
• Dealing with enquiries from the general public, disseminating information and ensuring that the appropriate action is taken, whilst maintaining the Charity’s policies and procedures

ORGANISATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Maintaining Raiser's Edge donor management system. Accurate data inputting of donations, fundraising, thank you letters and general archiving, production and upkeep of databases. 

PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Ability to present oneself in a professional manner as a representative of the hospital and the charity.
•  To maintain confidentiality in all aspects of duty including fundraiser and donor data.
•  To assist in maintaining accurate records and to complete and return as requested statistical data.
• To maintain an accurate effective database, recording essential information and providing statistical data in accordance with guidelines and policy using Raiser's Edge, Microsoft Office, Word and Access.
• To represent the Charity in a variety of different contexts and to a variety of different audiences.
• To ensure that a positive image of the hospital and the Charity is projected at all times.
• To hold a flexible approach to working hours (the role will require the post holder to work evenings and weekends as necessary).
• To hold a flexible approach to work when asked to take on other fundraising or admin duties when the team needs to cover holidays, or at times of workload pressure. 
• To adopt a supportive and collegiate approach when working with the fundraising team and other colleagues within the hospital.

The Legacy Administrator will also carry out other projects and duties as directed by the Head of Fundraising, Director of Fundraising and Charity Chief Executive.

Individual giving and corporate support are vital to the delivery of RZSS's ambitious strategy and the Fundraising Manager is a senior role. The Inland Waterways Association (IWA) is the only independent, national charity supporting and regenerating Britain’s rivers and canals for leisure, living and business. About the role

Guided by Nene Park Trust's Business Plan and Fundraising Strategy, the Head of Fundraising will lead and develop a comprehensive fundraising programme across all income streams. Key areas of work:

Fundraising Strategy and Planning

• Lead the delivery of the Trust's Fundraising Strategy, devising and managing an annual work programme that covers a wide range of fundraising opportunities, maintains diverse and sustainable income streams, and builds the organisation's voluntary income capacity to meet its strategic aims and objectives.
• Initiate, manage and coordinate major project-based fundraising campaigns, events and other activities in support of the Trust's Business Plan.
• Monitor best practice among close competitors and the wider charity sector to ensure the Trust's approach to fundraising is coherent and delivering the required impact.
• Ensure that all fundraising activity is responsible, delivery-focused and compliant with relevant charity and statutory legislation, fundraising regulations and recognised codes of practice.

Trusts, Foundations and Statutory Funding

• Lead the development and submission of grant applications to charitable trusts, foundations and statutory/public bodies to support standalone projects, capital purchases and core cost recovery.
• Help develop cases for support, business cases and budgets for projects and activities, and support project leads to monitor and control work programmes and expenditure.
• Ensure timely and accurate reporting to funders and other stakeholders in line with grant conditions. 
• Identify funding information sources and carry out in-depth research on funding opportunities. 

​Corporate Fundraising and Partnerships

• Build relationships through networking with local and national organisations to attract sponsorship, corporate donations and other partnership opportunities.
• Lead the cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of corporate supporters and donors in collaboration with the Chief Executive, Senior Leadership Team and Trustees.
• Develop strong cases for support to present a compelling proposition to corporate partners and sponsors.

Individual and Community Fundraising

• Oversee and support the team to raise money from individuals, including community fundraising, regular giving, in memoriam giving and membership.
• Plan and coordinate the stewardship of individual supporters and develop the donor journey, including the provision of NPT membership.
• Manage a schedule of regular appeals and campaigns to supporters through a variety of communication channels.
• Utilise fundraising and marketing tools, such as online donation platforms, crowdfunding and mailshots, to encourage donations and other forms of giving. 
• Develop and implement fundraising events and supporter engagement activities within the Park and elsewhere.
• Subject to strategic priorities, develop the potential for major donor and legacy fundraising.

Supporter Relations and Data

• With support from colleagues, maintain and develop the Trust's CRM system to underpin effective individual and corporate supporter management.
• Ensure the fundraising function remains compliant with all relevant data protection laws and fundraising regulations at all times.
• Manage and oversee fundraising budgets responsibly and in line with the Trust's financial policies and procedures.
• Contribute to reporting on the Trust's fundraising performance, providing regular and accurate updates to the Chief Executive and Trustees.

Team Leadership and Management

• Provide clear, values-based leadership to the Fundraising Team, creating an environment where people can bring their best to the Trust.
• Effectively manage and support staff through regular meetings, setting and reviewing work programmes and objectives, annual performance reviews, and identifying training and professional development needs.

Job Responsibilities

The Development Manager will lead delivery of a phased fundraising strategy:

Phase 1 - Foundation: Build on our strong systems and processes and give us consistency in fundraising delivery, including building a robust pipeline of Trusts & Foundations and developing place-based income in Crawley and the Gatwick area.

Phase 2 - Private Phase: Expand individual giving by deepening relationships, developing major donors, and securing multi-year funding partnerships.

Phase 3 - Public Bring together all strategic and fundraising priorities in our 75th year, amplifying them into a public campaign that advocates for our change-making work.
