● Assist in maintaining a content library, organising media assets, and archiving materials for future use.

Job Description
We are looking to recruit an experienced, inquisitive and motivating manager to provide leadership to a team managing a portfolio of high profile National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) experimental medicine research infrastructure funding schemes.
Job Purpose
The Programme Lead will provide leadership for the end-to-end grants and research management of NIHR’s experimental medicine research infrastructure portfolio, which includes the flagship Biomedical Research Centres, the Clinical Research Facilities, the Commercial Research Delivery Centres, the HealthTech Research Centres and others. The postholder will lead work to drive the evolution of the experimental medicine portfolio and shape its future direction. In addition, they will play a key role in NIHR’s interaction with the experimental medicine community and will work closely with senior colleagues from the Department of Health and Social Care.
The Programme Lead will report to the Assistant Director of Research Infrastructure, will have responsibility for the activities of a team of Senior Research Managers and Research Managers, and will work closely with the broader Infrastructure team.
Key Accountabilities:

Lead the delivery and strategic development of the experimental medicine research infrastructure portfolio:

Portfolio development: Develop and maintain expert knowledge of the funded portfolio in order to identify gaps or opportunities for greater impact and to build robust cases for new activities.

Strategic direction for existing funding schemes: Oversee the delivery of scheme reviews and evaluations for your portfolio to develop recommendations for the next funding calls.

Working across the health and care research landscape: Represent the schemes and portfolio in discussions with colleagues from DHSC, NIHR and beyond to ensure synergies are identified and can be capitalised on. Contribute to activities to raise the visibility of the awards within academic, clinical, public and government fora.

Commissioning of research: Provide management oversight of the delivery of new funding competitions, development of application guidance notes, the organisation of international panel meetings, the production of minutes and provision of feedback to applicants.

Development of new funding calls: Respond to ad hoc requests from DHSC/NIHR to develop and deliver new priority funding calls, mobilising resources to develop an appropriate assessment mechanism and suitable monitoring processes.

Contract management and annual reporting: Support the team to process contractual requests/changes required during the lifetime of an award and requests for information (e.g. Parliamentary Questions, FOI requests or briefings for ministers). Monitor award progress through an annual reporting process and together with the Assistant Director, sign off on award holder feedback and monitor risk management.

Team Management and Support: Guide the development of the individuals within your team to allow them to reach their potential. Qualifications
Required Knowledge, Experience and Technical Skills:
To be successful in this role you will have:
- A PhD degree (or equivalent) in biomedical or health sciences research (or significant equivalent sector experience)
- Significant relevant experience of managing research funding in a clinical, academic, industrial, funding agency or charity setting
- Experience of line management, staff development and planning and monitoring of workloads
- Excellent project planning and management skills; able to prioritise and manage multiple tasks, working to challenging targets and deadlines
- The ability to demonstrate an understanding in the strategic issues in health and care research funding and policy, especially within experimental medicine

About Waves
Demos is leading the largest trial of digital democracy in Britain.
Trust in politics and politicians is in crisis. Only 24% of people trust politicians to make decisions in the best interests of the country. Polarisation is increasing. At the same time, people want to be involved in the public policy decisions that affect them.
Waves is a €1 million project trialling new technology in local democracy, launched to bring people together to tackle contentious local issues and strengthen trust in local government. Thousands of local people will have the opportunity to shape local government policy on an issue affecting their area.
New AI-powered technology is intended to make it easier, cheaper and quicker for participants to have their say, identify areas of consensus, discuss difficult issues and work through trade-offs together.
We are working in partnership with two trailblazing councils who are both embracing the opportunity to put the public at the heart of their policy making. The trial will begin in the London Borough of Camden to co-develop an approach to adult social care. The trial will then move on to South Staffordshire District Council as they develop an inclusive engagement process to prepare for their next local plan. The partners will also support a further 25 councils to observe and learn from the process so that they too can use the tools in the future.
About the role
We are looking for an experienced programme manager who can steer Waves from now until it completes in December 2026.
You would be joining the programme at a pivotal time as we move from the ‘set-up’ and ‘co-design’ phases of the first 6-months, to the start of the first of our two trials running sequentially over the next 11 months, before moving to a final ‘impact phase’ of dissemination of our toolkits, technology and learning in the final 6 months.
Programme management of Waves means ensuring that the whole project stays on track – on time and on budget – throughout its delivery. There are 5 partners, a number of suppliers and many moving parts, so it is critical that we find someone who can work across the whole programme, anticipating who needs to do what and by when, and ensuring that the programme is delivered successfully so we can draw learnings from it to share widely across the local government, democracy, and tech sectors.
It is worth bearing in mind that Waves is a ‘test and learn’ trial of a new deliberative democratic process using existing and new technology. Therefore, the team is committed to learning from the project and being comfortable with the uncertainty of not knowing exactly what the outcomes are going to be.
What you'll need to be sucessful

- Ability to identify potential risks, develop mitigation strategies and manage issues that may arise during the programme lifecycle – ideally in an innovation context, one working with diverse partners with different ways of working or when using technology/ conducting trials with the public.
- An interest in, and comfort working with, innovative technologies that utilise AI and collect data, as well as an understanding of the risks and sensitivities surrounding the use of AI, among the public and within the public sector.
- Experience of owning and managing a large-scale budget, conducting calculations when there are changes from the plan, and maintaining clear and robust tracking of expenditure to ensure financial accountability.
- Demonstrable ability to adapt to changing circumstances, solve problems creatively and maintain momentum and energy during challenging situations.
- Highly collaborative, with a commitment to teamwork and inclusivity.

The Role
This is a key role in acting as a delivery partner on our projects, working on streams of community work across the England and Wales, and within the staff team.
Responsibilities
- Projects and Workstreams: Overseeing and ensuring outstanding delivery on multiple community projects through Flood Action Groups and Multi-Agency Meetings. Support and manage data collection that meets the aims of each project.

About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Trusts and Philanthropy fundraiser, to manage a portfolio of high level funders, whose support is vital to the work of Become.
Working closely with the Trusts and Philanthropy Manager and the wider Fundraising team, the postholder will research potential funders, write compelling grant applications, and build strong relationships with funders to ensure continued and increased support. Location
We are currently hybrid working: our team primarily works from home. Project practice & frameworks: Take responsibility for implementing effective ways of working for the Programme Team. Oversee project evaluation and ensure evaluation practice adheres to the ACE Impact & Insight framework.

Partnership & artist relationships: Nurture key partner and artist relationships and oversee the Project Managers' portfolios of key relationships. Identify, engage, and establish potential arts and non-arts partners and participants for the 26/27 programme.

The Offer:

Salary: £44,000 per annum, pro rata (equivalent to £26,6400 for 3 days per week)

Holiday: 25 days and bank holidays (pro-rata) + days between Christmas & New Year.

Other benefits: 3% pension contribution, flexible and hybrid working negotiable, and weekly 1:1 wellbeing meetings. We may also offer an additional week of leave during August pending results of a recent trial in 2025.
