Birmingham and Black Country Wildlife Trust is one of 46 local, independent Wildlife Trusts and is the charity that works to make the environment of Birmingham and the Black Country (Dudley, Sandwell, Walsall and Wolverhampton) a better place for wildlife and people through environmental education, community involvement, ecological and practical work.

As a wildlife charity serving a heavily urbanised area, a major theme of our work is education and community engagement activity with people of all ages and demographics. We are currently seeking an Education and Engagement Manager to lead this vital work.

This is an exciting and deeply rewarding opportunity to make a real difference to people and wildlife in Birmingham and the Black Country. The post will ensure the Trust’s education and engagement activity is of the highest possible quality, and that it inspires and enables people, communities and organisations to connect with their local environment.

This will be a varied role that will feature a significant amount of project management, partnership working, policy and strategy development, and line management, as well as opportunities for direct delivery. The successful applicant will be very well-organised, with a high level of attention to detail, and used to prioritising a complex workload. You will have excellent communication skills, and the confidence to guide a team to successful outcomes. Above all you will be driven by a commitment to see nature’s recovery become part of as many people’s lives as possible.

Flexible role, based in offices within Birmingham or working from home, as required. Occasional travel regionally and nationally.

Main duties and Responsibilities

• Implement the plan as has been specified and agreed by our Board.
• Convene and run a network of employers and members of the autism community to share and discuss good practice.
• Undertake project management across the workstream, managing and monitoring activities and outcomes.
• Identify need, find options, evaluate, enlist and manage service and contract providers; services that are introduced to the network (recruitment and HR advice, financial advice, property advice, franchising advice, pooled procurement).
• Identify funding opportunities, coordinate funding applications to secure financial backing for the services to be offered.
• Build engagement with autistic people into all aspects of the workstream.
• Support the leadership team to develop plans for improving employment for autistic people in the UK and worldwide.
• Build and maintain effective collaborative relationships with a range of partner organisations; and large employers.
• Line-manage any future staff employed in this workstream/ project.
• Create and present progress reports as required by the leadership team and board of Trustees.
• Develop and maintain an evaluation system for the whole project.
• Support the Autism Centre of Excellence to manage recruitment and retention in line with best practice.
• Sensitively manage the challenges of organisations holding themselves to account in discharging their responsibilities around employment of autistic people.
• Contribute to other team activities in line with the post-holder’s skills and commensurate with the grade, such as arranging meetings, taking notes, organising and hosting focus groups.

We’re a small charity that brings communities together to create cleaner, connected and safer urban and rural neighbourhoods by tackling the litter problems where they live. Litter-picking brings people closer together, enables neighbours to meet one another other and helps create a greater sense of pride and community in local areas.

Historically, we have delivered litter-picking focussed community engagement projects in London and Birmingham. Our current focus is developing partnerships with community organisations across England to expand our reach and increase impact.

• To use Mail Chimp to send mailers to our partners and followers. 

• Database Management, to take a pro-active role in our upcoming database development project, considering how best to structure, store and export data. Following the launch of the database lead on database development and maintenance, such as an annual data cleanse.

• To assist with setting up, maintaining and updating database information, Community Cleanup Hub registrations, profiles and filing systems, ensuring that data handling complies with GDPR requirements.

• To organise board meetings; booking diary dates, venues, catering and taking minutes.

Senior Youth Outreach and Engagement Worker

Streets of Growth is seeking to employ an experienced, motivated, and personable individual to work as part of the frontline team to deliver targeted street work to engage and build relationships of trust with high-risk vulnerable young people (15-25 years), in hotspot areas known for Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB), exploitation, serious youth violence and young people that are furthest away from engaging in services.

You should expect to be appointed at the starting point of the salary scale and a higher starting salary band is dependent on you having extensive experience and skills in street work and detached outreach work as well as relevant frontline experience of working with at-risk young people.

These working hours will vary and will be worked according to business needs and notified to you in advance. You will be required to work late afternoons, evenings, and weekends as part of your normal working week

The role:

Taking on a lead role to deliver targeted street work and outreach across the borough of Tower Hamlets. This involves engaging and building relationships of trust with young people at street level and in identified hotspot areas of risk where there is low to high anti-social behaviour, criminality and violence. Working with and engaging young people in strategic interventions across Lifestyle, Enterprise/Employability, Education and Environment that constructively challenge negative patterns of behaviour, create an experience for positive thinking, confidence building, entrepreneurial work skills, and tapping into the young person’s ambition, potential and talent.

You will have senior responsibility with the Frontline Director to plan and execute street work and outreach delivery in identified hotspot areas or risk based on street/community and partner intelligence. As well as holding a small street-engaged caseload of young people and providing a lead responsibility to deliver appropriate targeted intervention work during critical incidents in the community.

Who we are looking for:

Along with a relevant professional qualification at level 3 or degree level, you will have significant frontline experience working with young people, including experience in detached outreach work with young people and experience working with at-risk, vulnerable young people. You will also have good knowledge of safeguarding risk assessment and contextual safeguarding in addition to good practice in engaging young people.

Duties and responsibilities  

Business Development and Relationship Management 

• Act as main point of contact for existing corporate partners and stakeholders

• Build strong relationships through a stewardship programme to engage with partners in a variety of ways on a regular basis

• To provide the highest quality supporter care, working in partnership with the business to engage with its staff, maximising fundraising and retain support for the long term

• Support with engaging FareShare national partners where required

• Capture feedback from businesses to adapt our propositions

• Engage with with external stakeholders to develop effective activity plans, with clear objectives and outcomes to engage with new and existing corporate partners and other stakeholders

New Business

• Work closely with the Development Team to identify new business opportunities (including charity of the year partnerships) and to develop new relationships with stakeholders across Sussex and Surrey

• To research and approach companies to maximise fundraising opportunities,Develop and promote sponsorship opportunities and corporate partnership offerings

• Create engaging proposition presentations to approach new businesses engaging with them and s other such stakeholders regularly, hosting visits and attending meetings where necessary

Reporting and Monitoring

• Provide regular reporting for trustees and the Development Team

• To monitor and evaluate all aspects of the partnership, reporting on income and engagement.

About the Role

The Fundraising and Engagement Manager is a brand-new role which will lead in developing and delivering the fundraising strategy in line with the Foxton Centres' Business Plan. Working alongside the senior leadership team and service managers you'll support researching and compiling funding applications to trusts, foundations and public sources as well as building relationships with businesses and individuals who want to support the vital work the Foxton Centre carries out.
