Joe’s Buddy Line is seeking a new organisational leader; a hands-on Chief Officer who can build on the great work already undertaken by our Trustees to deliver high impact mental health support services to schools and Universities; currently in London and the South East, but with ambitions to grow across England and Wales.

Joe Lyons was a caring son, brother, a wonderful friend and a talented, award-winning Radio Producer. Known as “Producer Joe”, he became Senior Producer of the Roman Kemp Breakfast Show at Capital Radio. Very sadly in August 2020 Joe passed away in totally unexpected circumstances at just 31 years of age.

During Joe’s life he brought a cheeky spirit and constant laughter to all those that met him. His selflessness and commitment to helping others touched so many, and in loving memory and as a legacy to Joe, his friends and family set up Joe's Buddy Line in January 2021.

We are now looking for a resilient, driven and inspirational individual to provide energy, strategic vision and operational management for our small and growing charity.

The successful candidate will bring a track record of effectively overseeing the day to day service delivery for a small charity, prudent financial management and an innovative approach to source and secure new opportunities for the Charity.

It is essential that the post holder must also be able to help us transition from a predominantly volunteer led charity to a vibrant fully sustainable organisation with salaried staff.

About the position 

This is an exciting opportunity to create change at scale, informing and promoting a practical transition to plant-based diets, in order to reduce the number of animals suffering in factory farms. Part of our Farmed Animal Campaigns team, the role will work to increase the quality and availability of plant-based options with major caterers and universities in the UK, impacting hundreds of thousands of meals daily. 

This role also includes an opportunity to support the delivery of a campaign to end the use of farrowing crates, one of the worst forms of cruelty to farmed animals in the UK today. In this role you will support the Senior Manager for Farmed Animal Campaigns to create public-facing campaign assets, and develop compelling research to underpin our policy and industry engagement.

Key areas of responsibility:  

• Initiate and maintain relationships with universities, food service companies and public sector institutions to support and oversee their delivery of goals to reduce meat/animal products  

• Work with consultants to develop and deliver our Forward Food culinary training programme to food service professionals, to support their understanding of plant-based food and marketing, and their role in the just protein transition.  

• Identify and support opportunities to encourage people to eat fewer animal products, including working with media and celebrity ambassadors. 

• Conduct environmental impact assessments on menus and food procurement to effectively monitor and report on progress towards meat-reduction goals 

• Deliver compelling and informed advocacy to UK political stakeholders to encourage the adoption of policies that catalyse a just protein transition and better farmed animal welfare. 

• Support development and delivery of HSI UK’s farmed animal campaigns strategies  

• Research and present on industry-related trends and developments in the plant-based food market and alternatives to cage confinement.  

About you 

Our successful candidate will be confident, articulate and creative with a proven track record of supporting the delivery of effective campaigns through research and advocacy. You’ll be a proactive self-starter, and someone who brings positive energy to work within teams. You’ll have a keen eye for detail and accuracy, as well as experience and ability to produce compelling and effective advocacy materials, including analysing scientific data and translating it into meaningful language for stakeholders. You’ll have experience of building strategic relationships in the private or public sector to deliver agreed goals. You will have an ambition and drive for creating positive change for animal welfare, and a willingness to regularly evaluate our progress and impact with a view to further improving our strategies.

Purpose of role

CSC is seeking to recruit a new CEO who will lead, empower, and mobilise the organisation and its support to its network members, whilst securing sustainable funding and investment so CSC can deliver its mission. The CEO will be supported by a passionate and talented team of staff, an experienced Senior Management Team, and a fully supportive, engaged, and inspired Board of Trustees.

Primary responsibilities

The job holder will have the following key responsibilities:

Strategic planning and priority setting

· Provide leadership and guidance in the delivery of CSC’s 2024-2029 Strategy, defining priorities to secure sustainable funding and implement the organisation’s goals.

Resource mobilisation and sustainability

• As ‘chief fundraiser’ for the organisation, take the lead in strengthening the organisation’s fundraising strategy and income generation. Be actively involved in working with the staff team to bring in new income (restricted and unrestricted) by conceptualising the presentation of programme, advocacy, policy, and research work and developing customised approaches to donors. Ensure sustainable and diverse sources of income in the face of the current challenging fundraising environment.
• Work with our Development Board and other Trustees to engage with philanthropic and corporate foundations and high net worth individuals globally, attracting new donors and continuing to grow the organisation’s partnership base and international networks.
• Develop and maintain strong positive relationships with donors (United Nations agencies, foundations, multi-laterals, bi-laterals, corporate sector, and individuals) and partners to cultivate support for CSC through appropriate presence and communication.

Building CSC’s profile

• Protect and further strengthen CSC’s external brand, profile, and credibility as a thought leader in the field of child rights and child protection in relation to street connected children.
• Act as a champion and advocate for the organisation by representing the work of CSC and its positions at the highest levels externally and across the political spectrum and globally, including with the United Nations entities and agencies, regional bodies, national governments, and partners.
• Act as CSC’s key spokesperson publicly by writing, speaking and social media posting on issues related to the rights of street connected children.
• Support the ongoing development and implementation of a communication strategy to raise the profile of CSC as the global major leader on issues related to street connected children.
• Oversee clear, targeted, engaging, and inspirational communications on all platforms, targeted at segmented audiences (funders and potential funders, influencers, decision makers, potential allies, and network members) in line with CSC’s core values and positions.

Organisation and programme management

• Manage the work of CSC to ensure an effective organisation that is operating in line with its vision, aim and objectives.
• Ensure supportive staff development and good practice to maintain a positive working environment with regular performance appraisals and professional development plans.
• Work in partnership with the experienced programme staff in delivering the programme strategy. Provide supportive guidance to the team, including robust programme planning, measurement and evaluation, and reporting processes. Support the team in conceptualising the programmes to achieve new and sustainable funding.

Finance and operations

• Oversee and ensure CSC’s fiscal soundness and strength, effective operational and financial management, consolidating financial stability, efficiency, and impact.
• Oversee monthly management accounts, carefully balancing restricted donor funding and project delivery with a balanced budget for unrestricted funded activity.
• Ensure proper financial and procurement procedures are adhered to, in order to meet the highest standards of international donors, UK auditors and the UK Charity Commission.
• Oversee processes to ensure strong negotiations and contracting of all our restricted funded projects, including robust due diligence processes for our subgrantees and donor compliance with respect to cost recovery and other requirements.

Governance

• Establish and maintain a strong working relationship with the Board.
• Ensure the Board is fully supported in carrying out its role and responsibilities and that CSC is fully compliant with UK Charity Commission guidelines, Fundraising Regulator, and good practice for non-profits.
• Ensure the preparation and presentation of an annual workplan and budget for review and approval by the Board and present periodic updates of their implementation as well as of the overall financial status of the organisation.
• Work with the independent Board of Directors in the USA, providing information and assistance so that they can fulfil their potential at establishing a solid funding and advocacy base in the US for our mutual global aim of ensuring the respect, protection, and fulfilment of the rights of street children.

Profile

Experience and skillset

• A senior and experienced people leader, with a significant and demonstrable track record in an NGO or public body, of successfully building and maintaining high performing teams and a culture of equality, diversity, and inclusion.
• Strong financial acumen with experience of income generation.
• A proven record in the cultivation of donors and success in raising funds in the child rights or human rights sector, including from foundations, bilaterals, multilaterals, corporates, and high-net-worth-individuals.
• Demonstrated experience and success in global partnership building, convening stakeholders with diverse cultural backgrounds and driving an organisation to act as a catalyst for social change.
• A skilled influencer with strong communication (oral and written) and ambassadorial skills.
• Experience of effective advocacy with both internal and external audiences.
• Demonstrable knowledge and credibility as a leader, particularly in the field of children’s services, child rights and/or child protection.

Black-and-Racialised groups face many challenges that inhibit their ability to thrive and deliver quality services that meet the needs of their users. These challenges include lack of core sustainable funding and limiting the capacity and financial/governance skills. We are seeking an experienced Deputy Finance Director who will play a pivotal role in establishing a Finance Centre of Excellence - providing infrastructural and financial management support to Black and Minoritised community-led organisations in 8 London boroughs. The Centre of Excellence will focus on increasing groups’ financial literacy, confidence, skills, resilience and will include:

• Bespoke financial management capacity-building support, including compliance with statutory/funder requirements; and support with operational/strategic management and planning resources.

• Support will also include financial health checks, finance strategy development, risk.

• Identification and management, budgeting, statutory/funder compliance training, employer responsibilities training, governance training, budget for funding bids, and annual report.

• Devote significant time to outward-facing activities dedicated to supporting frontline Black and racialised grassroots community groups.

• Development of online learning tools and platforms to cascade the learning and providing 1-to-1 coaching sessions for Senior managers and Trustees.

The Deputy Finance Director will report to and work closely with the Chief Financial officer and will also contribute to Ubele’s overall financial strategy and supporting financial operations within our central hub.

We are looking for a senior regulatory affairs specialist to join our Science & Regulatory Affairs team, with experience in regulatory toxicology in the chemicals and/or consumer products sector. A clear desire to end testing on animals is essential.

You will work within the Science & Regulatory Affairs team to deliver the organisation’s objectives relating to the ending of testing on animals, with a focus on regulatory testing in the chemical and consumer product sectors. Your role will mostly address regulatory testing on animals in Europe, some activities will also be relevant to the UK, and some will be internationally relevant. 

Working alongside colleagues in the Science & Regulatory Affairs team and Public Affairs team, and also in collaboration with other partner organisations and stakeholders, your efforts will increase awareness and use of non-animal methods and promote a full transition away from testing on animals.

Willing to travel internationally as well as attending virtual sessions, you will represent the organisation at regulatory bodies and in other arenas. You will proactively promote the organisation’s position on animal testing with regulators and other stakeholders.

Through the production of high-quality scientific material and support to the organisation, your contribution will significantly help advance the agenda of ending all experiments using animals. 

The Senior Officer – Network, Partnerships and Programmes plays a critical role as the initial contact point for CSC’s global network of 200+ NGOs and delivery lead for our practice-based partnership programmes and Street Work training, working closely with a small but dynamic team in pursuit of CSC’s vision and goals.

The postholder will contribute towards CSC’s strategic goal to transform street-connected children's experience of the street, now, so that they are safer, with better access to services and a sense of belonging in their communities, by:

• Working with network partners to develop, evidence and model innovative & integrated rights-based approaches to supporting street-connected children and securing their rights
• Promoting and supporting skilled street work as the first, critical step in a rights-based approach to supporting street-connected children

Specific Tasks and Responsibilities

1. Programme delivery

• As the delivery lead for CSC’s practice-related partnership programmes, (including our Inclusive Education Programme), work closely with partners, working group members and other stakeholders to develop and deliver high quality programming which maximises learning and dissemination opportunities, engaging external stakeholders and learning partners where appropriate
• Manage and cultivate relationships with current programme funders, ensuring that high quality reports are submitted to deadlines
• Where required, support the delivery of other programme activities in partnership with network members
• Working with partners and CSC’s finance manager, review and manage programme budgets
• Working with the Senior Legal and Advocacy Officer and with the oversight of the Directors of Programmes, implement processes for collecting and analysing monitoring data on partnership programmes and with the wider team to identify learning to inform CSC’s future work.

2. Programme development

• Working with the Directors of Programmes, guided by CSC’s strategy and building on our existing strong partnerships, develop programme plans and project concepts in advancement of CSC’s goals
• Working with the Directors of Programmes, identify funding sources for partnership programme activities and contribute to the development of high-quality project proposals
• Support the further development and delivery of CSC’s Street Work training offer, working closely with the Director of Programmes for Network, Practice and Children’s Participation, including supporting proactive efforts to secure training contracts/funding and nurturing CSC’s Global Trainer group.

3. Network development

• With the support of the staff team and Directors of Programmes, develop and implement CSC’s network approach to achieve CSC’s strategic goals
• Identify areas for collaboration with and between network members and facilitate shared learning, including via network-wide events, thematic working groups and geographic clusters within the wider network
• Be the first point of contact for reactive enquiries relating to the network and membership
• Be the ‘holder’ of network data, which will be jointly populated and maintained by the team 
• Be a champion for shared learning and knowledge exchange between the network and CSC team, including via network surveys and online engagement events
• Work with the wider staff team and network to design and deliver CSC’s annual International Day for Street Children campaign and activities.

4. Other

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Royal College of Physicians at a crucial time. The RCP is the oldest medical royal college representing doctors in over 30 specialties from cardiology and gastroenterology to geriatric and respiratory medicine.

The senior public affairs and policy manager will help us to understand the key policy issues in health and healthcare and lead our influencing work, developing the RCP’s networks, particularly in parliament and government.

You will help manage and oversee a portfolio of high-profile work across a range of topics, proactively identifying opportunities for the RCP to influence the agenda and working with RCP fellows and members to shape and progress our campaigns. You will lead and manage our public affairs work, contributing your expertise to design and lead influencing strategies, campaign planning and policy development for a range of issues.

You will have demonstrable experience of developing and delivering successful influencing strategies, using a range of parliamentary influencing tactics to achieve policy change. You will be as comfortable speaking to parliamentarians and briefing senior leaders for meetings as you are writing consultation responses and policy briefings. You will lead and manage the organisation’s stakeholder engagement to uphold our position as a leading health and care organisation. Central to that will be maintaining a network of contacts across the sector, in parliament, including political advisers, and the civil service. You will work with the president and senior officers to develop policy positions and advocate for them to external stakeholders within UK Government, Parliament and the wider health and care sector.

You will maintain a keen awareness of developments in the external landscape and make recommendations for how to evolve and progress our campaign messaging and policy positioning in response. Working closely with media colleagues, you will help to develop our voice with communications approaches that ensure high impact for our policy and campaigns work, including the Inequalities in Health Alliance. You will help us to analyse and interpret complex information to aid understanding and decision making and develop lines to take, draft public statements and media comments and brief senior officers and staff.

Purpose and scope

Key responsibilities

• Maintaining a keen awareness of issues within the health sector, politics and the media in order to advise senior officers and staff; identify opportunities for influencing and policy development; provide support and advice to RCP boards and committees; and inform other RCP activities as appropriate. 
• Working proactively to identify opportunities for parliamentary engagement, working with the media team to ensure relevant issues are highlighted to the media.

• Preparing senior officers and staff for stakeholder meetings, supporting them in those meetings and yourself representing the RCP at meetings and events. 
• Working flexibly and proactively without close supervision, undertaking a range of work such as writing briefings, letters, policy positions and consultation responses.

AAUK's Digital team within the Advocacy & Influencing department are seeking a Senior Digital Content Specialist. The purpose of the role will be to commission, plan, design, edit and publish content across all digital channels to increase reach and engagement with ActionAid audiences and to build ActionAid’s authority as a champion of women and girls. 

The post holder will create, manage and optimise integrated digital marketing campaigns across multiple channels to support all strategic objectives. As well as provide expertise in digital best practice to support colleagues across the organisation to achieve their goals across digital channels, designing and delivering training on digital best practice, including content planning, creation and optimisation.

This opportunity will allow the Senior Digital Content Specialist to lead on digital best practice, digital skills, tools and processes across the organisation, using their knowledge to influence ways of working and embed digital culture and lead on digital content planning and creation as part of project groups on cross-organisation integrated campaigns.

About IKWRO

IKWRO –Women’s Rights Organisation (IKWRO) is an award-winning charity founded (as the Iranian and Kurdish Women’s Rights Organisation) in 2002. IKWRO is a registered charity which provides advice and support to Middle Eastern, North African and Afghan women and girls living in the UK, who have experienced, or are at risk of all forms of “honour” based abuse, including; forced marriage, child marriage and female genital mutilation (FGM), or domestic abuse.

We work with women and girls of all ages, including lesbian women, bisexual women and trans women. We offer services in Kurdish, Farsi, Arabic, Dari, Pashto, Turkish and English. IKWRO offers free advice, advocacy and counselling services and operates a refuge which provides safe accommodation and specialist support to single women at risk of “honour” based abuse, forced marriage and domestic abuse.

IKWRO also provides training for women and girls to help them understand their rights in the UK. In partnership with other organisations, we assist survivors of abuse with accessing English language classes and education, training and employment opportunities.

As well as supporting women and girls directly, we offer advice and training for professionals from the statutory and voluntary sectors, to better understand the needs of the women and girls we represent, the types of abuse they experience and to provide best practice prevention and support services.

We campaign to increase awareness and improve laws and policies to tackle all forms of “honour” based abuse and harmful practices including; forced marriage, child marriage, marital captivity, female genital mutilation, virginity testing and hymenoplasty, discrimination by sharia courts and to push for better laws and policies to protect women’s and girl’s rights.

The post-holder will be required to work in a confidential setting and provide non directive support to improve mental health and social functioning of women who are experiencing different forms of gender based violence. The post-holder will be professionally trained, accredited and work within the BACP/BPS Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions (2018) or equivalent. 

Main Duties and Responsibilities

·Provide a service in line with BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) guidelines or equivalent.

·To support the management team with the strategic development of IKWRO’s counselling services. 

·The provision of effective and high-quality Counselling and Psychotherapy services to IKWRO’s clients through making use of up to date service standards and IKWRO’s Counselling Guidelines.

·To agree a counselling contract with IKWRO’s clients and provide a timely, responsive and appropriate service.

·Carrying out a small one to one clinical caseload and/or depending on the team’s clinical capacity.

·To manage waiting lists according to the level of risk, delivery plans and organisational priorities.

We are looking for someone to work with a clear strategy and then develop, grow and successfully manage our Youth Advisory (YAG) and Alumni groups, as well as lead the engagement of families / support networks. The ideal candidate is someone who will ensure interns accessing the DFN Project SEARCH model are at the heart of decision making and who will champion their rights and their participation. We are looking for someone who has a strong understanding of advocacy and the rights and entitlements of young adults with special educational needs and disabilities.

We are in our third year of running our YAG and yet to launch our Alumni offer. This role will therefore involve leading the implementation, development, and growth of the membership of both DFN Project SEARCH YAG and Alumni group. This will include planning and facilitating a programme of activities throughout the year for YAG and Alumni members, which we hope will be a mix of in person and online events.

This post holder will also provide ongoing training to YAG, Alumni and parent/carer members and facilitate their participation in our advocacy work. There will also be opportunities to deliver training to our central and partner teams alongside members of these groups
