Position: Community and Engagement Manager

Salary Range (depending on experience): pro rata of £32,910 – £38,745 incl. OLW

Hours: Part-time 21 hours per week. We are able to offer some flexibility with the role such as term time only or flexibility with days/times.

About the role

Richmond AID is seeking an energetic and enthusiastic person who will support our vision of putting Deaf and Disabled people at the centre of everything we do. We are looking for an experienced person who can develop and implement an engagement and co-production strategy. You will work closely with our other managers and play an integral role in the management team.

The role involves leading the delivery and development of our dynamic Community and Engagement team. This multidisciplinary team currently has 6 direct reports and services include: BuddyUp, Spade gardening service, Mental Health Peer Support service, Connect to Tech digital training, Campaigning and our wide range of peer group activities.  There is a variety of skills and experience which will require someone to We are looking for someone to not just manage these services, but to lead their development and widen our coverage across the borough of Richmond. This will predominantly involve supporting the people involved to be leaders of their own projects, developing/modernising our delivery model, ensuring projects meet targets and quality standards and when required also being involved in supporting direct service delivery.

You will have strong leadership skills with experience of managing a multi-disciplinary team. You will lead our engagement, co-production and campaign strategy and manage our Community and Engagement team instilling these values through all our work. You must be committed to the value of participative community engagement, have a great understanding of the needs of diverse communities, and a passion for social justice and supporting Disabled people.

You must have experience in the delivery of community facing services and be able to  demonstrate an understanding of the challenges faced by Disabled people. It is essential you bring passion, dynamic ideas and creativity to the role.

You will be an excellent networker internally and externally. You will have strong influencing skills, and will have the right blend and balance of people skills with excellent communication and project management abilities. You must be comfortable connecting with the wider community, able to listen, gather the views of local people, and feed these back into our wider programme of work. You’ll be confident in participative strategies and tools such as facilitating groups, arranging events, developing surveys, gathering views and responding to consultations.

You will have experience of managing a team covering a wide range of projects and interests. You will know what it takes to set up and manage a project and ensure it meets the intended outcomes.

You will be skilled in managing group dynamics and supporting your team to have boundaries with clients. You will also have experience of managing Safeguarding issues. Above all you must bring a positive, solution focused attitude.

Experience of campaigning work, with a track record of delivering innovative digital campaigns that have led to real change, would be an advantage.

About Richmond AID

Richmond AID offers 25 days annual leave plus eight bank holidays pro rata. Normal office hours are 9am to 5.15pm Monday to Thursday and 9am to 5pm on Fridays. The HALO Trust are looking for an experienced and driven Philanthropy and Grants Manager to lead and develop high value relationships with philanthropic donors, with a focus on Trust and Foundations (and potentially corporates). 

The Global Philanthropy Team works to secure support for the delivery of vital projects to save lives and protect livelihoods in conflict affected countries around the world, as well as build organisational resilience and support innovative areas of work.  HALO’s philanthropic income has grown significantly in recent years, driven by introductions from our network of trustees, ambassadors and advocates and our focus on strategic and transformational partnerships. We are a small team of highly skilled, experienced and driven fundraisers with a collaborative team culture. The team is supported by a Philanthropy Operations Manager, Philanthropy Assistant and Global Philanthropy Research and Insight Lead (who leads on research and due diligence). In 2024 a Head of Philanthropy and Partnerships for the Middle East will join our team to lead relationship development in this key market. 

You will join a fast-paced, fluid and entrepreneurial context, responding to opportunities while laying the critical foundations for strategic growth. 

While the role is likely to focus on Trusts and Foundations (and potentially corporates) due to our networked approach and the strategic and interconnected nature of our partnerships, supported by networks of advocates, we do not overly separate relationships between Trusts/Foundations, corporates and HNWIs.  This provides team members with varied opportunities in terms of the relationships they lead and the high-level stakeholders they work with. This prevents agricultural production, which is critical to Ukraine’s economy and global food security. Across seven regions, more than 1,000 local Ukrainian staff have already enabled the removal of more than 19,000 explosive items and the clearance of more 3.1 million m2 of land- bringing safety to communities and supporting Ukraine’s economic recovery.

True peace cannot come until land is safe. HALO’s work to clear the deadly debris of war is the first step towards recovery and reconstruction. And the return of hope.

About the role:

The HALO Trust has more than doubled in size over the last eight years by growing support from both Governments and philanthropic donors.  Global income from philanthropic donors (including the US) has significantly increased over the past five years – from circa £4 million to £15 million in 2022/23 and reaching a further peak of £44 million in 2023/24 in response to exceptional donor support for Ukraine. Unpinning this is growth in six and seven figure partnerships with major donors, corporates and foundations, initiated by our exceptionally well-connected network of trustees and ambassadors - and nurtured by our committed and professional global philanthropy team.

Job Responsibilities:

• Lead growth within a portfolio of high value (six and potentially seven figure) relationships by providing excellence in supporter stewardship and through the development and delivery of relationship strategies, in collaboration with the Director of Philanthropy and Head of Global Grant Partnerships
• Support senior HALO staff, advocates and trustees to engage and inspire individuals linked to agreed relationships
• Work with international programme teams to ensure the development of high-quality proposals and reports to tight deadlines
• Contribute to departmental strategic priorities including supporting the stewardship of other major relationships, follow up of new opportunities, and the development of philanthropic products for wider use. Deputise for the Head of Global Grant Partnerships where required
• Manage donor records and correspondence in Salesforce

Essential Requirements:

• Three years' experience of personally leading successful relationships with high value philanthropic donors (Trust and Foundations, corporates or high net worth individuals or equivalent), including those giving at the six or seven figure level
• Experience of building effective relationships with advocates linked to philanthropic donors
• An excellent communicator with the ability to build relationships with staff and colleagues in different cultural environments
• Outstanding written skills with the ability to work with programme and finance colleagues to design robust project proposals, reporting, and monitoring and evaluation
• Confident in working with financial information including project budgets
• Excellent written and verbal skills with strong attention to detail
• Outstanding interpersonal skills including ability to demonstrate tact, sophistication and gravitas 
• Experience of working with a fundraising database to maximise relationship development
• A commitment to HALO’s mission and objectives
• Strong intellectual curiosity and the ability to articulate HALO’s various programmes and strategies in a compelling way
• Tenacious, self-starting, and able to thrive in a fluid, entrepreneurial context

Finance Function

• Work with the CFO, other senior management, and programme staff to develop annual organisational budget of over £7 million
• Develop and implement financial policies, procedures, and controls to ensure efficient and effective financial management, ensuring that policies and processes are well-understood by the wider organisation
• Design, implement and manage processes to develop financial forecasts, monitor budgets and programme funds, and reconcile accounts

• Coordinate project audits and the statutory audit process liaising with external auditors to ensure preparation, timely completion and submission of project and statutory accounts

Finance Business Partnering

• Support the Programme and Institutional Advancement Teams with financial proposals, financial management and financial reporting relating to donor funds

Knowledge & Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or related field
• Relevant professional qualification (e.g. CIMA) in full or part
• Strong understanding of The Charities Statement of Recommended Practice (SORP)

Skills & Experience

• Experience of working in the charitable sector in the UK
• Relevant experience in a similar finance role with good attention to detail and a high level of accuracy

The Role
Manage the delivery of the trusts fundraising strategy, including work to identify and research potential new sources of trusts funding, to meet agreed annual targets.
Develop and manage the delivery of an annual work plan and pipeline for the trusts fundraising programme
Research and make approaches, pitches, submissions and applications to charitable trusts and foundations (both in the UK and overseas territories)
Provide the Senior Trusts Fundraising Officer with clear, collaborative and supportive line management.
Research and pursue trusts fundraising work in assigned new target areas, to expand the programmes reach and impact.
Write clear, concise and compelling proposals, and feedback reports for successful applications and submit in a timely manner.

The Candidate
Extensive knowledge of trusts and statutory fundraising principles and practices including in an international development environment/context.
Knowledge of the current trusts and statutory and fundraising market, including potential supporters. Knowledge of developing and delivering compelling pitches and applications to trusts.
Knowledge of the requirements and expectations of working in the charity sector.
Experience of working in a fundraising management role or equivalent, with a track record of developing and maintaining relationships with partners and/or potential supporters that ultimately generate income.
Experience of managing a trusts fundraising programme, and developing a trusts pipeline or equivalent.

At the helm of our operation is Reprezent Radio, a dynamic youth-led community radio station based in South London. Location

This role is a hybrid position, working both from home and with regular attendance required at our office/training space in Peckham and our station headquarters in Brixton.

Responsibilities

• Work with the Executive Team to develop a Sustainable Growth Strategy for our training department. This should contain concrete plans for income generation and beneficiary impact KPIs for the short, medium and long term. This process will involve:

  • Strategic analysis of competitors and market need.

  • Critical evaluation of existing frameworks and assets.

  • Researching available grants and fundraising opportunities.

  • Exploring other revenue opportunities through networks and brand partnerships.

• Once the Sustainable Growth Strategy has been drawn up, management of its implementation and ongoing development. This will include:

  • Writing and developing bids to appropriate funders and corporate partners.

  • Undertaking dynamic reviews of the programme after each major round of delivery, reviewing trainee feedback and outcomes and adapting the provision accordingly.

About Women in Prison

Women in Prison is a national, women-led, feminist organisation. We deliver front line support to women harmed by the criminal justice system, through our work in prisons, in the community and ‘through the prison gate’ as they resettle back into their communities. We also campaign for systems change that addresses the root causes of offending, reduces the harmful impact of prison, and creates workable, community-based alternatives to imprisonment.

POSITION SUMMARY

Business Launchpad wishes to hire a highly organised, process-driven individual to oversee operations for its Tooting Works business centre.

As a key member of the Tooting Works team, the Operations Manager oversees the renting of our office units, tenant relations, and building maintenance and management, among other things. The post holder ensures the centre is run to a high standard, including excellent customer service, compliance with all current building and health and safety legislation, a high occupancy level and operation within budget.

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES

Centre Operations Management

• Oversee the day-to-day operations of the business centre, ensuring all facilities are well-maintained and running smoothly, and that the lettings process is compliant and well-managed.
• Implement and monitor operational policies and procedures to improve efficiency and service quality, including opportunities to digitise procedures and services.
• Manage building improvement and repair projects in collaboration with the maintenance team and the operations director.

Customer Service

About this role

The Head of HR and Operations is a new position within Sustain and will play a central role in the senior team. You will work closely with the Chief Executive, senior managers and line-managers to provide effective leadership on HR and operational matters. You will lead on creating and improving systems to help us work better; as well as helping Sustain cultivate and embed a positive working culture for the whole staff team. The role will include day-to-day management and ownership of HR matters, processes, recruitment, staff training, skills development and performance management. The role will also lead on the internal people, skills and culture aspects of our diversity, equity, inclusion and anti-racism work.

Sustain is seeking a highly experienced, professional, authoritative, motivated and committed individual, who is great at working with a team to pursue organisational objectives at a leadership level, whilst developing positive relationships across the whole staff team. We are looking for someone who is experienced, confident and competent to set up and improve systems and approaches. We are also looking for a person with several years of senior experience, relevant qualifications, and an understanding of working with a values-driven team of people in the not-for-profit or charity sector, the majority of whom have permanent contracts but fixed-term project funding.

The person appointed will have an appreciation of the aims and values of the Sustain alliance and be excited by supporting our organisation through the transition to better ways of working. The creation of this role follows a period of significant organisational change associated with hybrid working, unionisation and changes in the senior team. This role will benefit from a confident, professional, diplomatic, values-led, collaborative and solutions-focused approach.

The role will not manage a team directly but will work closely to support senior leaders and colleagues who have previously undertaken key HR and operational duties, including Sustain’s Chief Executive, Head of Finance (who will line manage this role) and Finance and Administration Officer. They will also work closely with others on the management team and report to Trustees.

As with all senior roles at Sustain, we expect the person appointed to this role to commit to working mainly at the Sustain office during their probationary period, and thereafter for half of working hours, whilst still benefiting from the flexibility offered to all colleagues. This is part of senior role-modelling of the creativity, support, engagement and mental health benefits that in-person working cultivates between colleagues. This will be managed in coordination with other senior colleagues to enable good in-person coverage and connectivity across the week and across common holiday periods.

Tasks and responsibilities

With a solid understanding of the organisation’s staffing needs, the Head of HR and Operations will work closely with the Chief Executive, Head of Finance and other senior managers to:

• Help Sustain offer good employee contractual terms, processes, employment rights and HR support.
• Implement and develop systems, activities and ways of working that cultivate a positive working culture for the staff team, volunteers and interns, and other people that we work with.
• Oversee implementation and evolution of Sustain’s HR policies, guidance and procedures.
• Lead development and implementation of Sustain’s approach to personnel management, on matters such as performance (e.g. objective setting and work planning), personal development, staff progression, skills, training and learning.
• Review and improve Sustain’s approach to recruitment and induction for staff members, volunteers, student or work placements and paid interns.
• Leading on Sustain’s diversity, equity, Inclusion and anti-racism work, where this relates to recruitment, induction, probation, workplace culture, operations, people and learning, working with and supported by the Core Diversity Group.
• Recording and communicating Sustain’s approach, principally through staff meetings; line managers training; HR processes; and editorial input, oversight and development of relevant chapters of the Staff Handbook, Line Managers Handbook, Recruitment Handbook and Management Handbook.
• Ensuring personal records are handled sensitively, respectfully and with appropriate confidentiality, in line with good organisational culture and data protection rules (GDPR).

In practice this will involve leading on or supporting the following areas of work:

Recruitment, induction and probation

Holding responsibility for overall recruitment and onboarding, induction and probationary approaches, to ensure a warm and inclusive welcome, fairness, consistency and compliance across the organisation. This will include:

• Leading on Sustain’s recruitment processes, supporting Line Managers in writing and grading job descriptions, managing recruitment in line with the ethos and procedures in our Recruitment Handbook, and supporting cultivation of a pipeline of exceptional and diverse candidates.
• Developing, refining and implementing Sustain’s approach to recruitment and our Recruitment Handbook, including streamlining and standardising the shortlisting and interviews process.
• Developing and ensuring high-quality and consistent implementation of welcoming, inclusive and productive induction and probationary period including
• Setting probationary objectives; review probationary training or other needs; and working with line managers to conduct probation reviews.
• Developing the concept of ‘foundation skills and knowledge’ to contribute to the way Sustain develops our induction and probation and creates opportunities for new entrants.
• Helping develop, implement and innovate on recruitment for diversity and overcome barriers to participation, especially for people from diverse ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds.

Support for Line Managers

• Ensuring a high quality and consistent approach to line management across the organisation, including development and implementation of standards, key tools and training, working with the Line Managers Forum and developing the Line Managers Handbook.
• Coordinating the quarterly Line Managers Forum a well as participating in this group, to develop a shared approach to strategic matters; organisational culture and staff development; and helping to cultivate Sustain-style leadership at all levels of the organisation.
• Arranging or providing support, advice, and training for Line Managers, including inducting new Line Managers, and supporting all Line Managers to implement key policies, guidance and support the people they manage in a fair and consistent way compatible with Sustain’s values, organisational needs, good HR practice and open communication.
• Ensuring that one-to-ones and annual appraisals happen consistently and effectively, that good records are kept and that the organisation learns from these and takes forward actions arising.

Staff development, learning, progression and performance management

• Working with managers to ensure high-quality objectives and workplans are prepared for all staff members, reviewed and managed effectively.
• Working with Line Managers to understand and respond to staff skills, needs, progression opportunities and needs or aspirations for personal development.
• Supporting implementation of Sustain’s approach to progression. Note: This area is currently under development as part of a wider Progression Review, and the outcome may include, for example, the Head of HR and Operations ensuring high-quality and consistent processes such as objective-setting, performance review, job grading, sector benchmarking, appraisals and appeals.
• Ensuring all staff are benefiting from personal development opportunities (informed by Sustain’s personal development framework and other assets), and regular opportunities with their manager to review progress against objectives, skills and learning, personal development and wellbeing.
• Leading on the annual appraisal process, ensuring it is consistent and useful and enables staff to develop for themselves, their teams and the wider organisation.
• Building a culture of learning including helping to manage a (small) learning and development budget and helping staff to take up opportunity for learning including:
  • coordinating the annual staff training programme covering ‘core skills and learning’, alongside other learning opportunities.
  • organising internal and external training and learning opportunities for staff, e.g. webinars, in-person sessions, skills-share sessions, visits, strategy sessions and similar.
  • championing use of Sustain’s Volunteering Days for climate and social justice.

Staff team, culture and IWGB Trade Union group liaison

• Ensuring Sustain’s staff culture remains vibrant, creative and welcoming, maintaining Sustain’s friendly, collaborative and flexible approach, while ensuring appropriate policies and procedures are implemented to guarantee the continued high quality of our work, ensure accountability and support people to flourish.
• Leading on staff health and wellbeing projects and ensuring appropriate support for staff relating to physical and mental health.
• Facilitating and fostering open communication and staff consultation processes throughout the organisation; working with colleagues to ensure regular opportunities for staff to connect, reflect and celebrate success.
• Running staff consultations, including collating and presenting the findings, examining options, and developing recommendations for senior managers and Trustees, to inform decision-making.

HR and employment contract management

• Working closely with the Head of Finance and senior managers to issue, track and communicate with staff regarding employment contracts, e.g. funding situation, precarity and contract extensions.
• Advising and supporting senior management on employment matters; and how to apply the appropriate organisational values and policies within the legal and ethical framework.
• Working closely with the Head of Finance to support completion of payroll and pension processes.
• Managing potential redundancy and/or end-of-contract processes in line with employment legislation and internal policies; and ensuring that redeployment opportunities are fully considered throughout.
• Managing and reviewing staff records on all absences, to include (but not limited to) annual leave, parental leave, compassionate leave and sickness absence leave, and providing up-to-date information to staff, Line Managers, senior managers and Trustees to enable review and decision-making.
• Helping to manage freelance and consultancy or partnership contracts led by others.
• Maintaining and developing Sustain’s HR information system to manage (including opportunities for further automation), for example, annual leave, absence, and general HR records.
• Supporting Line Managers to conduct exit interviews (or conducting them personally) to ensure routine actions are performed, handover is completed effectively, feedback is captured, lessons learned, and changes implemented where appropriate.
• Helping to manage complaints, grievance and safeguarding processes, working closely with senior managers and the Chief Executive.
• Working with senior managers and Line Managers to ensure that Sustain’s Dignity and Respect Code of Conduct (anti bullying and harassment; safeguarding) is referenced in key places, processes and training, to ensure that this is well understood and treated as a priority.

Policies, guidance and procedures

• Ensuring that Sustain policies, guidance and procedures remain up to date, relevant and legally compliant, supportive to members of staff and in line with Sustain’s needs, constraints and values.
• Ensuring that Sustain’s has organisational statements, policies and guidance that help us to achieve our goals, and to demonstrate, communicate and promote good practice.
• Implementing and managing an HR calendar for compliance checks, policy reviews on existing and future HR policies and procedures, and how this relates to HR and legal good practice, financial analysis, benchmarking, staff consultation and/or Trade Union negotiation.
• Supporting review in areas of concern, for example Sustain’s sickness and absence policy, recording information on patterns, impact and costs, to enable well-informed review of options.
• Carrying out remote working assessments, along with the relevant Line Managers (these are currently based on self-reported information from staff members, not on-site visits).
• Supporting senior managers in Trade Union consultation and negotiation processes, in line with the Trade Union recognition agreement and agreed protocols for the timely provision and consideration of information, transparency, consultation, negotiation and decision-making.
• Providing or commissioning sector benchmarking data, analysis and recommendations to inform decision-making, using the methodology agreed with Trustee oversight, on matters such as pay, annual leave, parental leave, sick leave, and other financial and non-financial staff benefits.

The role is home based with ability and willingness to travel across UK when required. Flexible working hours to be agreed and to meet the needs of the organisation. Holiday allowance is 25 days per annum pro rata plus bank holidays.

Main Responsiblities: 

• Supporting the Professional Officer in managing finance, human resources, risk management, quality, operational change, board activities and business planning for the organisation.
• Providing programme management support for SAPHNA bidding, budget, invoicing, and contract management processes.
• To support the development and delivery of SAPHNA business planning and prioritisation, including horizon scanning and creating business cases and new opportunities for income generation. 
• To support the Professional Officer in ensuring all the organisations charitable obligations are met.
• To support the Professional Officer and SAPHNA team as required in any other related work- streams.
• Line manage the administrator assistant and have organisation oversight and governance responsibilities of the office based processes.
