Advocacy After Fatal Domestic Abuse (AAFDA) is a well-established and respected national charity offering specialist and expert advocacy and peer support to families bereaved by fatal domestic abuse. We have an exciting opportunity to build upon and grow our fundraising success to date, in the role ofFundraising and Grants Manager. We are seeking an experienced fundraising professional, with the drive and determination to manage all aspects of our fundraising function.

AAFDA is currently funded by statutory bodies, trusts and foundations, corporates, events and individuals. Under your management, you will identify, cultivate and grow these existing and new fundraising streams.As AAFDA’s Fundraising and Grants Manager, you will be responsible for oversight and growth of voluntary and statutory funding income, including from individuals (regular and one-off gifts, major donors and legacy giving), community groups, trusts and foundations, corporates, the statutory sector (including Police and Crime Commissioners) and other benefactors. Starting from a strong foundation with multiple opportunities for growth, you will lead on the delivery of our ambitious, multi-year, multi-disciplinary fundraising strategy with an annual fundraising plan agreed with senior management.  With keen funder and customer awareness, you will regularly monitor and review both the plan and the strategy, in addition to working closely with our Finance Manager to manage diverse income streams and achieve income targets to fund AAFDA’s unique support and advocacy work with families bereaved by fatal domestic abuse.  Holding responsibility for maintaining and developing the website and building social media programmes, you will undertake an ambassadorial approach in all activity to assist our CEO and Director of Services to lead and manage the AAFDA brand and corporate identity, with a focus on generating earned income, by extending awareness of what AAFDA does and how successful we are.

This is a permanent role, subject to funding, but we will work hard (alongside you!) to secure this.

The Role

This is a new post and a significant one. As Business Development Manager, you will be the first dedicated commercial function in NEYDL, the only person in the organisation with responsibility for sales and income generation from commissioned services and traded products. You will report directly to the CEO and sit on the senior management team.

Your core mission is to grow NEYDL's earned income across two distinct strands: securing commissioned services and contracts with local authorities and other organisations in the North East; and developing a national market for NEYDL's training products and DigiDAD platform, enabling professionals and organisations across the UK to improve the support available to young dads in their communities.

There is no pipeline to inherit. You will need to identify the right routes to market, build relationships from scratch with commissioners and buyers, and develop the BD function as you go. The CEO will provide strategic direction and support, but you will need to be confident operating with autonomy, exercising commercial judgement independently, and getting on with it.

What you will do

Identify and pursue opportunities for commissioned services and contracts in the North East with local authorities, NHS commissioners, family hubs, children’s services and other public and voluntary sector organisations
Develop a national market for NEYDL's training products and, in time, licensing offer, working across both statutory and voluntary sector audiences. This will include selling training directly to local authorities, NHS bodies and VCSE organisations; testing demand from VCSE organisations for a licensing model that enables them to deliver NEYDL's approach locally; and exploring whether local authorities would fund or commission a local VCSE partner to do so. A key part of this role in year one/two is testing assumptions about which funding and delivery models have most traction.
Promote DigiDAD as a free resource to professional audiences, growing registrations and building relationships with organisations that can champion it with young dads
Develop and manage a BD pipeline, setting targets and reporting progress to the CEO and board
Represent NEYDL at sector events, networks and conferences nationally to build profile and relationships
Develop proposals, tenders and partnership bids, working closely with the CEO and programme team
Work closely with the DigiDAD Engagement Officer to share leads and coordinate activity via an agreed tracker, and with the DigiDAD Programme Manager to ensure BD and digital growth strategies remain aligned
Contribute to marketing and communications activity that supports commercial growth, including supporting the launch of our new national brand
Play an active role as a member of the senior management team, contributing to strategy, planning and organisational leadership.

We need someone with commercial experience in winning commissioned services, contracts or selling products and services to public and voluntary sector organisations. You will be relationship-focused, self-directed, and comfortable building a function without established infrastructure or a team behind you.

You will need to understand the professional landscape in which NEYDL operates: family support, early help, children’s services, family hubs. You don’t need to be an expert in young dads, but you will need to speak credibly to the people who commission and deliver family support, and to understand what drives their decisions.

Targets

Year 1 milestones

The following milestones have been agreed with our primary Year 1 funder and represent the BDM's near-term priorities:

By six months:

Approaches made to at least 25 contacts, including commissioners in all Family Hub areas in the North East and warm VCSE collaborators
By twelve months:

Marketing and outreach completed with at least 100 contacts (warm and cold)
Training delivered at least 10 times
Indicative conversion targets achieved: approximately 3% of cold contacts and 25% of warm contacts progressing to a training booking (these are assumptions to be tested and refined through year one)
Evaluation and review of year one learning completed; year two targets developed
Longer-term targets (to April 2029)

The following targets relate to the areas of work this role will contribute to, alongside the DigiDAD Programme Manager and wider team:

Professionals trained through NEYDL's training products: 50 by April 2027; 350 annually by April 2029
New professional DigiDAD registrations: 750 by April 2027; 1,400 annually by April 2029
New young dad DigiDAD registrations: 510 by April 2027; 1,000 annually by April 2029

The Business Development Manager will play a central role in building the relationships and income pipeline that drives the training targets. DigiDAD registration growth is led by the DigiDAD Engagement Officer and wider team, with the Business Development Manager contributing through referrals identified in the course of other work.

Alongside these targets, NEYDL currently holds commissioned service contracts with several local authorities: Durham, Middlesbrough, Sunderland, Gateshead. A key priority for the Business Development Manager will be to maintain and strengthen these relationships, ensuring contracts are renewed and the value of our work to each commissioner is clearly evidenced. Beyond existing contracts, we are keen to secure commissioned funding in areas of the North East where we currently have limited or no presence.

This exciting role will support the CRM team with data processes in our Beacon CRM fundraising database, as we look to integrate and automate more of our systems and processes. High-quality data will enable us to develop stronger relationships with our supporters, retention and maximise lifetime value working in an agile way.

What does the role involve?

• Manage data processes, imports and exports of all fundraising data including direct debits, new donors, email signups etc. in accordance with agreed protocols and in agreement with CRM Manager.
• Ensure that the use of the Fundraising database and the capture of all data from supporters or prospects conforms to data protection guidelines including GDPR relating to supporter preferences and consent.
• Support training for colleagues using the CRM (Beacon) and help ensure all members are trained and kept up to date on new features and enhancements as they require to do their job effectively.
• Support the reconciliation of the bank statement with Beacon and ensure the Finance team know where to find information to enable accurate coding for management accounts.

Why is this position on a fixed term contract?

Having this CRM Officer role in post for a year will support the ongoing business as usual data processes, whilst increasing capacity in the team to support efforts to increase the amount of automation of processes and integration between systems. This will ultimately reduce our reliance on manual data processes, reducing the volume of day to day data transfer, which should lead to a reduction of required capacity with the CRM team beyond the term of this contract.

What skills, knowledge and experience are we looking for?

• Demonstrable relevant experience working in Fundraising, or a Charity database team role using Beacon CRM or any database similar, with experience of CRMs in general.
• Evidenced experience of managing high volumes of personal data using a large and complex supporter/CRM database.
• Evidenced ability to think analytically and deliver the most effective and accurate solutions for data capture, manipulation and reporting.

Key Responsibilities

New Business Development & Pipeline Growth

• Lead the development and delivery of PCR’s corporate new business strategy, identifying, qualifying and prioritising high-value prospects across diverse sectors, including finance, retail, technology, hospitality, manufacturing and professional services.
• Own and manage a structured new business pipeline, ensuring prospects are recorded, stewarded and progressed according to agreed KPIs, income targets and strategic priorities.
• Develop tailored propositions, outreach strategies, cultivation plans and pitch materials that secure interest in Charity of the Year (COTY), strategic partnerships, sponsorship and employee fundraising opportunities.

Corporate Partnership Management & Delivery

• Lead the delivery and account management of high-quality partnership activity across events, campaigns, sponsorships, corporate donations and fundraising initiatives, ensuring partners receive excellent stewardship and clear impact reporting.
• Oversee planning and activation for employee fundraising and engagement activities, working closely with the Events & Community team to maximise partner participation, supporter experience and income.
• Lead the development of proposals, stewardship reports, presentations and corporate-specific content that demonstrate impact, deepen engagement and inspire continued support.
• Establish partnership governance requirements, including creating partnership agreements, managing renewals, tracking financials and reporting progress against milestones.

Cross‑Team Collaboration

• Lead cross-team collaboration with colleagues across PCR to build cohesive supporter journeys, integrated cultivation opportunities and shared approaches to partnership delivery.
• Oversee the development of bespoke fundraising assets, employee engagement materials and corporate-specific supporter journeys.
• Identify potential high‑value prospects within existing public fundraising audiences and internal networks, ensuring warm leads are effectively stewarded.

Corporate Patient Representatives Programme

• Oversee PCR’s growing Corporate Patient Representatives programme, ensuring effective planning, recruitment, scheduling, logistics and feedback processes are in place.
• Ensure high-quality governance, tracking and stewardship of Patient Representatives to strengthen engagement, manage risk and enable sustainable expansion of the programme.

Content Development & Insight Gathering

• Lead the development of corporate-focused case studies and materials, including themes such as workplace health, EDI resource groups, “men’s health in business” and partner-specific stories.
• Use insights from existing and prospective partners to inform product development, partnership offers, event design, stewardship improvements and future income growth.
• Work closely with Marketing & Communications to develop and update PCR’s corporate partnership webpages and create engaging content for social media.

Representing PCR

• Represent the Partnerships Team at corporate meetings, stewarding events, industry networking sessions and cultivation opportunities.
