Job description

Senior Fundraiser (Trusts and Foundations)

We are looking for an experienced fundraiser to grow funding for vital services for young homeless people and care leavers. You will secure funding that establishes innovative and successful ways of supporting young people and creates real change in their lives.

Please find full details of how to apply via our website in the advert below. The deadline for application submissions is 23:59, Sunday 31 October 2021.

We have an opportunity for a new colleague to join our fundraising team, where you’ll work alongside operational teams and young people to design effective projects that build on young people’s strengths and meet their needs. You’ll build relationships with large and smaller trusts and foundations, and you’ll have opportunities for growth as you can get involved in a range of funding streams. We are particularly keen to increase applications from Black and Minority Ethnic groups and Male candidates as they are currently under-represented in our organisation.

There has never been a more exciting time to join 1625 Independent People. Last year, our fundraising team raised over £1.3 million with the support of Strategic Leadership,  operational teams and young people. We are investing in an ambitious fundraising strategy to help us deeply engage more supporters in our work so that we can be there for even more young people.

We are a leading youth homelessness charity based in the South West, working with over 1,500 young people. We have strong local partnerships and develop, learn and share best practice in the sector. We build trusting relationships between our young people, our colleagues and partners and this is at the core of our work.

What we are looking for:

  • Someone with confidence, drive and enthusiasm to build relationships with colleagues, funders and other partners.
  • Someone with an excellent track record in securing income from trusts and foundations, who can use their writing skills to create outstanding funding bids.
  • Someone who is proactive, with the ability to identify opportunities and the confidence to start conversations with potential funders that result in successful partnerships and funding based on shared goals.
  • Someone who can understand what funders are looking for in a winning funding bid, who understands what good project design looks like.
  • Someone with a passion for helping vulnerable young people, who is looking to work as part of a small team where they can make a real difference for thousands of talented young people.
  • Someone with an interest in developing their skills in partnership with large funders, and developing an understanding of best-practice in youth work.

What you will be doing:

  • You’ll be working as part of a small and friendly fundraising team. You will lead on funding projects in line with our Fundraising Strategy that you will have autonomy over, and we trust you to manage your own workload. You’ll be part of a funding team that has secured substantial funding from some of the most progressive funders in the UK.
  • You’ll be collaborating with various teams (operations, finance, senior leaders) to develop these funding proposals from a pipeline that you have developed. You’ll be leading the writing and co-ordination of these proposals, managing all elements to submit an excellent proposal.
  • You’ll be responsible for developing and sustaining relationships with current and new funders, including hosting meetings with funders.
  • You’ll ensure that we listen to young people, act on their ideas, build on their strengths, and meet their needs through new funding.
  • You will be in the Fundraising and Comms Team, within our Central Services Department, and your line manager will be our Fundraising and Comms Manager, Hannah Barry.

What we are offering:

  • As a small funding and partnerships team, you’ll have opportunities to support all parts of the income generation in the charity and the opportunity to develop new sources of revenue. There is scope for progression in this role as you develop. Evidence of successful funding will support our business case to invest more in fundraising, review the structure and grow the team. This will be dependent on proven funding success.
  • The opportunity to work alongside partners and funders that share your passion for enabling young people to succeed in life.
  • Continuous support and supervision, including reflective practice, to develop your learning and skills as a practitioner.
  • This is a permanent position, and on a full-time basis, there will be some home working available.
  • Our team members are very supportive of each other, and through monthly Reflective Practice sessions we are always learning from our own and each other’s experiences.

Contract details:

  • Hours per week: 37.5 hours
  • Contract type: Permanent
  • Pay: £27,041 - £29,577 per annum
  • The location: You will be based in Kingsley Hall, close to Bristol’s main train and bus stations as well as the vibrant city centre. Some home working is available.

Important dates:

  • Application deadline closes: 23:59, Sunday 31 October 2021.
  • If you have not heard from us by Tuesday 02 November 2021, please assume that your application has been unsuccessful on this occasion.
  • Interviews are on Thursday 04 November 2021.

Covering Letter / Supporting Statement Guidance

Please note that the online application form cannot be saved until it is fully complete.  We recommend that you prepare your Covering Letter before you start the online application.

Your Covering Letter is essentially your Supporting Statement and will form the most important basis on which your skills, experience and behavioural competencies will be tested against the job criteria.  Without it, your application cannot progress to the shortlisting stage.

You should refer to the Person Specification document within the Job Pack and cover only the elements that are tested at this stage of the recruitment process.  Elements that only have the word ‘interview’ next to them will be tested at the next stage of the process and do not need to be covered in your letter.

Please try to keep the word limit to 250 words per criterion.

ALTHOUGH THE APPLICATION FORM GIVES YOU THE OPTION TO UPLOAD A CV, PLEASE DO NOT SUBMIT A CV AS THIS IS NOT NECESSARY AND WILL NOT BE USED IN THIS PROCESS.

Equal opportunities for everyone:

We safeguard and promote the safety and welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. Any job offer will depend on a satisfactory DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) Barred List Disclosure Check.

We believe those with a criminal record should have an equal chance to become employees or volunteers. We also pride ourselves on being an equal opportunities employer for everyone regardless of age, disability, gender identity, race, religion and beliefs, sex and sexual orientation. We are particularly keen to increase applications from Black and Minority Ethnic groups and Males as they are currently under-represented.

Please see our Policies section on the website, for further information. If you need an adjustment made to any part of the recruitment process, please let us know as soon as possible.
