Job Title: Travel Trainer

Context of Job

AFK is a national charity helping young disabled people develop their independence and find employment.  As part of this we provide bespoke travel training on London’s public transport network to and from school, college and work placements in the North London area.

We are looking for enthusiastic and flexible candidates to train and support young people to travel specified journeys safely and independently using public transport.

Overall Job Purpose

To train and support a young person to travel a specified journey safely and independently using public transport.  Record your observations and give feedback to the travel training coordinator, the young person and their family.  To take part in reviews of training as it progresses.

Working Conditions

• Casual working assignment with no minimum hours guaranteed

• Each assignment must be mutually agreed by both parties

• You will be expected to work mornings and/or evenings as required by the job and we will also consider job sharing for this role.

Responsibilities

• Support a young person door-to-door as they travel on public transport.
• Familiarise yourself with the following documents –

1. Journey Plan – describes the route you and the trainee will follow, and the alternative route(s) if the need arises. 
2. Risk Assessment – outlines the support needs of the trainee, and risks and strategies to mitigate them.

• Record your observations using standardised forms and relay your observations to the travel training coordinator on a weekly basis.
• Allow the young person to learn independently and only guide, support or intervene when necessary (this will be included in your induction)
• Approach travel training in a positive manner by reinforcing achievements and viewing obstacles as opportunities to learn.  Discuss strategies and agree solutions with the young person, their family and the travel training coordinator.
• To contact the travel training coordinator immediately if there are any emergencies or unexpected situations.
• Ensure that the young person is trained to use the alternative route safely and independently.
• Ensure that the young person learns and/or knows how to contact parents or carers in case of an emergency
• Any issues or concerns must be raised with the travel training coordinator or the business development manager.

Additional Responsibilities

• Learn the support needs of the young person prior to training
• Become familiar with the route
• Become familiar with and then follow AFK’s safeguarding policies and procedures

This is an opportunity to join Refuge as a Helpline Contact Centre Manager for the National Domestic Abuse Helpline, the role is designed to provide high quality practical and emotional support to Deputy Managers across the NDAH, the postholder is also responsible for the ongoing management of our contact centre, the platform that survivors use to contact the NDAH.

The National Domestic Abuse Helpline provides a national gateway to services and survivors across the UK fleeing domestic abuse, working in consultation with the Senior Operations Manager. We are excited to be recruiting a part-time role for an Operations Manager in our dynamic voluntary sector adolescent mental health service.

Open Door is a young people’s mental health charity that has been based in Haringey, North London for 49 years. It aims to improve mental health and life-chances of young people. We provide an ‘Open Door’ to free, high quality psychological therapy to 12–24-year-olds delivered by experienced and highly trained clinicians. We also support parents and carers, struggling with the issues their children face. We aim for access to be simple and over half of those we support, self-refer. About the Role

Community Connectors work as part of an integrated, blended mental health offer to support people with emotional, social and practical needs to access a range of local, non-medical and non-clinical services, to improve confidence, social inclusion and independence.

This role will involve working as part of a multi-disciplinary team with statutory, third sector and NHS colleagues to support clients who are suffering from moderate to severe mental health difficulties. You will need to have experience working with those suffering with mental health illness as well as being able to demonstrate in depth knowledge of the services, support networks and local resources that may assist in improved outcomes for those dealing with complex and enduring mental health issues. The ability to be adaptable, work independently and the resilience to work in some challenging environments are key attributes for this role.

Service Delivery

• Assess suitability for community connection support as part of a blended team approach and support individuals to access the service by utilising in depth knowledge of local voluntary and community services and networks in your respective area
• To work with individuals to coproduce a plan to address their mental health and wellbeing goals. Am enable people to achieve these goals through facilitating access and connecting with appropriate resources
• Enable people to access community resources which may include accompanying them.
• Offer support, guidance and help where possible to people to gain confidence, overcome initial fears and seek solutions to any barriers inhibiting attendance.
• Take a holistic approach, based on the individuals’ priorities and wider determinants of health that impact on their health and wellbeing, such as debt, poor housing, being unemployed, loneliness and caring responsibilities.

We are excited to announce an opportunity to establish and lead Heartland Cares Ltd, a start-up social enterprise, providing home care in rural Perthshire.  We are seeking a dynamic Chief Executive Officer / Home Care Manager to shape and drive this innovative initiative. Working with an ambitious Board of Directors, and initially in the Rannoch and Dunkeld and Birnam areas, his role offers the chance to build a new and tranformative model of community-led  care, enhancing services in remote rural areas.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the development of a high-quality home care service tailored to rural areas.
• Build, motivate, and manage staff and volunteers, ensuring excellence in care and service delivery.
• Oversee the day-to-day operations and service delivery
• Build and maintain strong partnerships with local trusts, councils, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies.
• Ensure compliance with Care Inspectorate standards and lead the registration process.
• Manage financial operations, including budgeting.
• Act as the spokesperson for the organisation, promoting its services to local communities.
• Report directly to the Board, ensuring alignment with the charity’s mission and governance requirements.

Are you the right fit?

We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual with a passion for making a positive impact in rural, remote communities. The ideal candidate will hold a Level 7 practitioner qualification (meeting SSSC criteria) and have proven leadership experience in care services within community settings. Financial management and exceptional communication skills are essential, along with a good understanding of the unique challenges rural communities face in accessing health and social care services.

Main duties of the job

No two days in our team are the same. We split our time evenly between working flexibly at home and onsite in the office in Bath, as well as being out and about in our community. You will have a varied role which involves managing a wide range of duties and tasks including:

• Build relationships with local groups, companies, schools, and individuals to grow community fundraising income.
  Develop and deliver inspiring opportunities for volunteers to support our work.
• Provide day-to-day support and communication to our volunteers.
• Represent RUHX at community events, talks, and meetings.
• Help raise awareness of our charity across Bath and the surrounding areas.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

• Educated to Degree Level or equivalent appropriate work experience
• Evidence of a qualification in Fundraising or Marketing

Desirable criteria

• Membership of Institute of Fundraising

Knowledge

Essential criteria

• Demonstrable experience of working in Volunteers & Community Fundraising including managing and delivering large projects and events from initiation to completion on own.
• Experience of carrying out risk assessments
• Experience in managing & working with individual volunteers and groups, securing their effort and commitment and maintaining a high level of customer care.
• Sound understanding of charity law, fundraising regulations and best practice relating to sponsorship, donated support, public collections, licensing etc
• Experience of working in a fundraising team and office environment and following procedures accurately without significant direction.

Desirable criteria

• Experience of working in the NHS
• Experience in developing and delivering marketing plans including charity media relations, social media and digital marketing.
• Experience of setting, managing and reporting on income and expenditure budgets.
• Knowledge & experience of Raisers Edge relationship management database.

Skills

Essential criteria

• Ability to use own initiative and to escalate issues in a timely manner where unable to resolve an issue personally.
• Flexible team player with the ability to prioritise and organise a changing workload and work systematically towards deadlines. High attention to detail and an ability to see a task through to fruition with minimal supervision.
• Ability to use storytelling to communicate a compelling case for support in a way that is comprehensible to supporters and volunteers via a range of channels including public speaking, written communications, social media, telephone and face to face conversations.
• Ability and confidence to communicate effectively in sensitive situations, using patience and tact in relations with supporters, general public and press
• Ability to build credibility with senior volunteers, supporters and RUH staff through the use of effective interpersonal and influencing skills.
• Advanced Keyboard skills, including good Microsoft Word, and Excel.
• An understanding of the Data Protection Act, GDPR and Fundraising regulations and best practice.
