Role Details

Location: Home based, with regular UK wide travel where required. Although the charity has national reach there is a particular focus on activity in Nottingham, Richard’s home town.

Job Summary

The CEO will be responsible for leading the strategic direction and overall management of the Richard Whitehead Foundation. They will ensure it has a positive impact on enabling disabled people’s ambitions by removing barriers to give disabled people access to the life-changing power of sport. The ideal candidate will be a driven and visionary leader with a strong passion for making a difference.

Key Responsibilities

• Work with the board to review and develop the strategic plan for the Richard Whitehead Foundation.
• Develop lead and manage an operational plan and budget to deliver the strategy
• Proactively build, develop and manage relationships with key stakeholders, including funders, beneficiaries, disability organisations, volunteers, and staff ensuring that the Richard Whitehead Foundation is able to deliver on its objectives.
• To be bold in our ambition to empower disabled people through the power of sport.
• Lead, motivate and inspire the Richard Whitehead Foundation to achieve its goals and objectives, ensuring that the organisation has the right talent and resources to achieve its strategic objectives.
• Develop and implement fundraising strategies to ensure the sustainability, development and delivery of the Richard Whitehead Foundation and future projects, diversifying our income streams and growing overall income. This will include supporter acquisition, funding applications, event management and donor stewardship.
• Develop and oversee a marketing and communications plans
• To have a hands-on approach to progressing the Richard Whitehead Foundation
• Regular contact with trustees most notably the Chair, and President.
• Ensure that the Richard Whitehead Foundation is compliant with all relevant regulations, including those related to fundraising, governance, and charity law.

The position

The Royal Geographical Society (with The Institute of British Geographers) is seeking an Administrative assistant within the Director’s Office. This is an exciting opportunity to work across core areas of the Society and support key projects. The successful candidate must have an interest in Geography and enthusiasm for the work of the Society. The ideal candidate will have worked in an administrative capacity and will be highly organised with strong time management skills. Duties and responsibilities

• Assisting in administration of events that bring senior media and cultural (museums; theatres) decision makers together with sustainability specialists through the course of the year
• Working with the Programmes team to deliver this a high profile new photography festival each July
• Backing the Explore team’s delivery of events and materials including the annual November expeditions and fieldwork festival and the development of the linked Handbook and wider events programme across the year.

About the Youth Endowment Fund

We’re here to prevent children and young people becoming involved in violence. We do this by finding out what works and building a movement to put this knowledge into practice.

 Last year, 244 people in England and Wales tragically died after being assaulted with a knife. Of these, 32 were children. Every child captured in these numbers is an important member of our community and society has a duty to protect them. Even beyond knife crime, we know that the fear of violence has a terrible effect on children’s daily lives.

The Youth Endowment Fund exists to try and permanently change things. To succeed, we must build an exceptional body of knowledge about violence affecting young people and how we reduce it. This knowledge has to be both rigorous and highly relevant to those making decisions about how to support vulnerable young people. We need to find out what works and what doesn’t through evidence synthesis, data analysis and qualitative research into children’s lives. We then need to convert this into highly accessible content on what works, how delivery organisations need to change their practice and how the systems they operate in need to be reformed.

About the Toolkit Team

The Toolkit team is at the heart of our work to spread knowledge of what works to prevent children becoming involved in violence. We want research to lead actual changes in outcomes for children.

Our flagship resource, the Toolkit, is a free, online resource that summarises the best available evidence about the effectiveness of various approaches to preventing children becoming involved in violence. It explains the evidence, how confident we can be about the findings, and provides actionable guidance to help policy makers, commissioners, and practitioners to turn evidence into action. The Toolkit is influencing real world policy and practice: the Home Office requires Violence Reductions Units to allocate at least 30% of their funding to interventions that have an impact rating of ‘high’ or ‘moderate’ in the Toolkit. Over half of Youth Justice Services use the Toolkit to align their work with the latest available evidence. Our Change team use the Toolkit to influence systems, policy and practice across children’s services, education, health, neighbourhoods, policing, youth services and youth justice.

The Toolkit is a live resource that currently contains 35 approaches to violence prevention, and we will add at least ten updates to the content this year. New research is published every day around the world. We collate relevant studies in our YEF programmes evidence and gap map and YEF systems evidence and gap map, and we collate study results in our Effect Size Database. We are working in partnership with the National Children’s Bureau and the EPPI Centre to implement new technology and to use machine learning to create a ‘living platform’, that contains relevant studies and their results in one place. This is an exciting development that will significantly speed up our production of systematic reviews and meta-analyses to keep the Toolkit up to date.

Key Responsibilities

The Senior Research Manager will be an essential part of the YEF Toolkit Team and will develop a portfolio of impactful projects. The core of your role will be leading the commissioning of evidence synthesis, using our new methodology, across a range of topics and producing Toolkit content.

You will:

Commission new systematic reviews.

• You will lead the commissioning and management of systematic reviews of the evidence through our Toolkit and Evidence Synthesis Partners: the National Children’s Bureau, the EPPI Centre, and the Race Equality Foundation. This will involve scoping and prioritising violence prevention approaches, convening expert advisory groups, reviewing research protocols and technical reports, and ensuring that research products produce actionable insights.

Write accurate and actionable summaries of evidence for the Toolkit.

· You will use findings from evidence synthesis to write new summaries for the Toolkit, and to inform YEF’s guidance and implementation resources.

· You will ensure that Toolkit content is only ever easy-to-understand and written in plain English with incredible clarity.

·You will collaborate with our Research team and our Change team to feed insights from the evidence into systems, sector and practice guidance. 

Lead Toolkit communications.

· Collaborating with the YEF Communications and Public Affairs team, you will produce accurate social media content, blogs, and briefings on new Toolkit content to facilitate accurate journalism and press coverage.

Become an expert on the Toolkit.

· You will be an advocate for Toolkit evidence, and you will ensure insights from this evidence are accurately communicated to policy makers and practitioners. You will do this by delivering presentations on Toolkit evidence and providing briefings.

· You will also ensure YEF colleagues are up to date on the topics and content in the Toolkit by providing training and updates internally and sharing guidance about how to accurately explain the evidence.

About You

You are this sort of person:

You might have gained this expertise through your academic studies, training, research or professional experience. You can scrutinise a budget to ensure it provides value for money.

· You have at least three years’ experience working in a role that required you to think about research. This could include a range of roles in policy, academia, funding, and practice.

· You write in a way that people easily understand. You have that rare skill of writing in plain English. You have experience of translating complex research findings into plain writing that everyone can understand.

· You have excellent project and time management skills. You can work independently, quickly, and to a high standard.

·You are good with people. You are comfortable working with a wide range of people, including senior academics and other research experts, children and their families, practitioners, and policy makers. You’re able to provide constructive challenges when required.

• Recognised thought leadership, with a strong track record of disseminating evidence—ranging from peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations to leading webinars and technical panels.

• Experienced team leader, with a background in managing high-performing data, analytics, and insight teams to deliver quality outputs under pressure.

Formal education/qualification

Working in partnership with West Yorkshire & Harrogate Cancer Alliance (WYHCA), we aim to help reduce cancer rates through our Cancer SMART project, which raises awareness of the signs and symptoms of cancer, so people are better informed, attend screening and know where to go for help.

Our Patient VIEW project is dedicated to representing the voices of patients, carers and service users, ensuring they are central to decision-making processes within cancer care.

To perform this role, you’ll need the following skills:

Technical Research Expertise

• Expert knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research methodologies including RCTs, quasi-experimental methods; including multi-country evaluations and ethical research management.
• Proficiency in advanced statistical analysis and research data interpretation. Excellent data analysis skills using statistical software packages (STATA or R) and advanced excel skills; experience of advanced quantitative analysis techniques such as Interrupted Time Series Analysis, multilevel regression etc.

• Proficiency in developing new metrics and frameworks for assessing program impact, particularly in equity, disability, and marginalized group outcomes.
• Deep understanding of research ethics, protocols, and quality assurance processes
• Highly proficient in steering large-scale third-party evaluations.

Sector Expertise

• Substantial experience in sexual and reproductive health research
• Understanding of SRH research challenges, indicators, and measurement approaches
• Knowledge of key global health research institutions and networks
• Familiarity with demographic and health research data sources and methodologies

Stakeholder Engagement and communication

• Highly developed skills to influence and persuade ability to quickly and effectively build relationships with team members and stakeholders at all levels.
• Proven ability to communicate complex research concepts to diverse audiences

• Confident public speaking and strong communication skills, with the ability to craft persuasive, evidence-based narratives tailored to diverse external audiences such as donors, policymakers, and partners.
• Strong networks within academic research community and global health institutions
• Knowledge of evaluation standards expected by major donors and foundations

• Skilled in knowledge dissemination, including producing peer-reviewed publications and engaging in technical forums.
• Ability to build strategic research partnerships and secure funding through external engagement.

Team leader:  

• Strong leadership in managing research portfolios and teams and skilled at capacity building approaches.
• Exceptional ability to foster learning cultures that value evidence-based decision making and continuous improvement
• Strong mentoring and coaching skills at individual and team levels

Prioritisation and Multi-tasker: Strong ability to manage multiple tasks and effectively prioritise workload

To perform this role, you’ll need the following experience:

• Extensive (minimum of 8 years) experience in leading research in global health
• Strong track record in managing multi-country research initiatives and partnerships.
• Demonstrated experience in thought leadership, research dissemination, and donor engagement.
• Proven ability to manage teams, budgets, and deliver high-quality research outputs in a fast-paced environment.

Formal education/qualification

• Advanced degree in Public Health, Social Sciences, or related fields is essential.
• Additional qualification or formal training in research design or impact evaluation desirable
• Proficiency in French is highly desirable (please state level in application)
• Additional qualification or formal training in research design, epidemiology or impact evaluation, data visualisation such as PowerBI; advanced excel skills - desirable

Salary: £46,000 - £59,600 per annum for UK based candidates. Discretionary bonus + benefits.

Key responsibilities:   

This position can operate from any of our national bases, working from either our London, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales, South or North England hubs - Hybrid working 

Programme development:   

• Support the design of Money Ready’s programme development cycles.   

• Support with the development of the content and standards for all Money Ready programmes; structure, model and design.   

• Work with the monitoring and evaluation function to understand the impact of how we are designing our programmes.   

• Gain feedback through the internal ‘looking and listening’ processes to support improvements on programmes, balancing learner, trainer and external views.   

• Holding responsibility for our Core Subject Knowledge (CSK) quality, ensuring the information is correct and up to date, assisting with the refresh of key information for new and existing programmes. Provide the Training and Development manager any refreshed or new content for CSK when programmes are developed, for them to implement and roll out.   

Process implementation:   

• Deliver the quality assurance programme of Money Ready programmes across the UK; utilising the regional hub structure.   

• Taking the lead on accreditation, including moderation reporting and resolution of queries.   

• Support the Money Ready education and accreditation framework ensuring trainers have everything they need to help young people and adults have the best shot at achieving accreditation.    

• Co-ordinate annual training on the IV process and moderation.   

• Provide training and support with content and programme development processes.   

• Manage the development and maintenance of internal tracking systems for use by regional teams to report the QT activities.   

External relations   

• Be the day-day connection to our accreditation partner and support the quality control processes that they implement   

• Be the best ambassador for our work to all external stakeholders including young people, delivery partners, politicians, funders, the press, the wider education community, local authorities and so on.   

Working across Money Ready  

• Work with colleagues across the country as we continue to develop and grow the organisation.   

• Contribute to areas of the organisation that are ‘outside’ your immediate focus acting as trusted counsel to those in roles or teams that are different to yours.   

• Embed yourself into the organisation – recognising that our strategy and business plan are yours to deliver and that our culture is shaped with you and by you.
