We are the regulator for the optical professions in the UK. Our purpose is to protect the public by promoting high standards of education, performance, and conduct.

About the Advisory Panel
The Advisory Panel is a meeting of the four Council’s committees (Companies, Education, Registration, and Standards) in plenary session. They are established by statute for the purpose of giving advice and assistance to Council (whether or not in response to a request from them) on:

• matters relating to business registrants other than matters required by the Opticians Act to be referred to the Investigation Committee, the Registration Appeals, Committee or the Fitness to Practise Committee; 

• matters relating to optical training, education, and assessment; 

• matters relating to registration, other than matters required by the Opticians Act to be considered by the Registration Appeals Committee; and 

• matters relating to the standards of conduct and performance expected of registrants or those seeking admission to the register. 

Time Commitment and Remuneration 

This role is part time with a commitment of approximately 2-3 days per year, including time spent preparing for meetings.  Meetings will usually take place via MS Teams but may on occasion be held at the GOC Offices in London or other suitable venues.

A daily fee of £319 will be paid. This is in line with our member fees policy and member fee schedule.  This is taxable and subject to Class 1 National Insurance (NI) contributions. It is not pensionable.

Members can claim expenses for travel and subsistence costs incurred on Council business as set out in our expenses policy.

• Advise executive leadership on professional development and organisational culture related matters
• Be propositional and proactive in suggesting developmental solutions to people challenges
• Lead on succession planning and talent management
• Lead on the creation and implementation of performance management processes and development planning
• Champion and embed the Institute’s EDI strategy within learning, leadership, and cultural initiatives, working in close partnership with the EDI Strategic Lead.

Terms and Conditions

This full time post is offered on a permanent basis at an annual salary of £80,000 - £85,000 plus excellent benefits, including flexible working and family friendly policies.

The Alan Turing Institute is based at the British Library, in the heart of London’s Knowledge Quarter. We expect staff to come to our office at least 4 days per month. Some roles may require more days in the office; the hiring manager will be able to confirm this during the interview.

The Role

About You

We are seeking an experienced and strategic finance and operations leader who thrives in a collaborative, mission-driven environment.

You will have:

• Professional accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or AAT)
• At least 7 years’ experience in financial and operational management within the charity sector
• Strong understanding of HR, IT, risk management, and governance in small teams
• Proven experience managing budgets, audits, and charity accounts (Xero experience ideal)
• Excellent project management and strategic planning skills
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to lead and mentor others
• A proactive, organised, and solutions-focused approach

Desirable:

• Knowledge of UK charity governance and reporting requirements
• Experience working with philanthropists, funders, or in the environmental sector
• Interest in climate and biodiversity issues

The charity offers a flexible working environment, with flexible/ remote working but regular visits to the charity’s Head office in Hampshire.

Reporting into the Director of Fundraising, Marketing & Communications, primarily you will be responsible for building engagement and driving new income via charity of the year partnerships, corporate partnerships, and employee fundraising. You will manage the Corporate Partnership Officer who is developing a growing portfolio of supporters across different sectors.

Key Responsibilities:
 

• Develop and deliver an ambitious corporate fundraising strategy, focusing on securing long-term, high-value partnerships with existing and new organisations aligned to the mission.
• Lead on building and maintaining a pipeline of new corporate prospects, driving new business and fostering strong partnerships that support objectives.
• Build and nurture relationships with existing and new partners, ensuring they are engaged, informed, and understand the impact of their support.
• Oversee and manage corporate partnerships income and expenditure budgets, ensuring targets, KPIs and return on investment are achieved and reported.
• Mentor, manage and develop our Corporate Partnership Officer
• Work closely with the wider fundraising team to support sponsorship requests with our charity and partners.
• Champion collaborative working across the organisation to maximise opportunities and ensure alignment with our business plans and strategy.

Person Specification:
 

• Has a proven new business track-record developing partnerships with commercial and corporate organisations across multiple sectors, comfortable operating at five-and six figure-corporate income
• Proven experience of developing relationships and matching products, services and/or activities to suit the needs of corporate partners
• Demonstrable experience in growing income over time and seeking out new opportunities
• Proven experience of setting and managing income and expenditure budgets
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively to different types of audience through various channels

Project Manager | Interim | £400 - £500 per day (Inside IR35) London | 3 Months + | Remote

For a global healthcare organisation undergoing digital transformation, we're recruiting an interim Project Manager for at least 3-months. Reporting to the Director of Data and Digital Transformation, this role will lead on several digital transformation projects at various stages of project life cycle. This role will partner with teams across the business and other Project Managers, the Product team, BI team, and IT teams, as well as the Governance and operations divisions to drive the organisation forward on its journey to improve and enable change.

What you'll be doing:

• Leading a range of in-flight projects (various stages of project life cycle) across digital, data and technology clusters including business change, IT systems/products, and improvements to current platforms
• Management of all project elements including budget management, requirements gathering, implementation planning, impact assessments, risk mitigation and benefits management
• Project reporting, including presenting to project boards and senior stakeholders
• Efficiently picking up in-flight projects as well as initiation of newly defined projects, acting as the interface between the business and technology teams - gaining buy-in from stakeholders
• Coordinate weekly updates of project action logs, status reports, risks, and issues and track and report on project performance to senior stakeholders and Board
• Maintain benefits realisation and tracking register, and run project scoping, requirements and lessons learnt workshops

What you'll offer us:

• Proven track-record of delivering IT, Digital or transformation projects
• Proven track-record of leading and managing multiple projects at the same time, with varying degrees of complexity and time frames

• Prince2 or other methodology
• Ideally experience from NHS or other healthcare environments
