What we’re looking for:

• Experience supporting hardware (laptops, phones, tablets) and networking infrastructure.

• A good grasp of cyber security best practices.

• Someone proactive, organised and approachable – a natural helper who’s happy juggling different tasks.

The Role

We’re looking for a Culinary Chef Trainer for our brand-new purpose built Commercial and Training Kitchen in The Coronation Food Project Hub, Birmingham, helping combat food insecurity by providing affordable, nutritious surplus food in a dignified and supportive environment for underserved communities. In addition to catering skills, you will need to demonstrate a passion for reducing food waste through innovation and creativity. 

Working closely with FareShare Midlands Head of Operations you will develop and mobilise the kitchen and catering service(s) for The Coronation Food Project, enabling significant increase in FSM’s reach, support and impact in tackling food insecurity. You will play a lead part in managing our flagship Kitchen, producing high quality meals from surplus food as well as catering for large corporate events. We are keen to grow a Catering skills programme in line with our Employability strategy and you will need to play a key role in informing and shaping the training programmes.  Like most charity roles, this is as much a “hands on” as well as management role.

Key Responsibilities
Food Preparation and Cooking

• Plan, prepare and cook high quality, innovative meals in a timely manner for staff, volunteers, visitors and the public as well as larger catering events, ensuring variety, nutritional balance, and high standards of taste and presentation.
• Ensure all food is made according to the recipe and portion control standards
• Adapt menus based on seasonality and availability of surplus food
• Address any feedback or special dietary requirements to ensure a high level of satisfaction, improving offerings

Menu Planning and Development

• Develop and create new recipes in collaboration with the staff, volunteers and local organisations
• Innovate dishes that align with the organisations concept and demand
• Monitor food trends and implement them in the menu, while maintaining FareShare’s brand and ethos
• Create and deliver menus for corporate events

Training

• Develop and coordinate the delivery of catering skills and cookery courses to individuals of all ages and abilities within The Coronation Food Project Hub Kitchen, ensuring equipment, resources and ingredients are appropriate to each class

Kitchen Management

• Oversee kitchen team, including training, scheduling, and managing their daily tasks.
• Ensure proper stock control, including the procurement of ingredients, maintaining inventory, and minimising food waste. 
• Manage food costs, portion control, and kitchen meeting budgetary requirements.
• Work to guidelines from key stakeholders such funders, Public Health etc. keeping up to date with changes in food policy, strategy and dietary advice. 

Health, Safety, and Compliance

• Implement, manage and monitor all food safety standards, policies and protocols including sanitation, food safety, storage and food handling and distribution.
• Oversee the cleanliness, organisation, and hygiene standards of the kitchen, ensuring compliance with HACCP, COSHH and food safety regulations, ensuring effective and timely liaison with Environmental Health Officers.
• Compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act, with specific responsibility for the health safety and welfare of all personnel within their control.  
• Reports all accidents and/or incidents and near misses in accordance with the organisations’ procedures.

People Management

•  Working closely with the Head of Operations and Food, provide effective leadership, management and supervision to kitchen staff, volunteers, setting clear priorities and targets.
• Ensuring that staff and volunteers understand their role responsibilities in line with FSM overall mission and have the resources, capacity and capability to effectively undertake their duties.
• Ensure and support adequate training and development of staff and volunteers within the team.
• Participate positively in FSM people management processes ensuring organisation and team development, undertaking all aspects of line management responsibility including supervision, development and appraisals for teams.

About the Role

• Lead statutory and management reporting: Oversee the production of audited statutory financial statements and timely completion of the external audit. Ensure best practice in external financial reporting and take full responsibility for the accuracy and delivery of monthly management accounts.
• Own cash flow and balance sheet management: Lead the preparation of the charity’s monthly rolling cash flow forecast and ensure full ownership of the balance sheet, including timely and accurate reconciliations.
• Strengthen financial controls and working capital: Ensure effective financial processes and controls within transactional teams to manage working capital and drive continuous improvement in financial operations.
• Oversee compliance and tax: Identify, manage and control financial risks, including tax compliance. Provide expert technical accounting advice and ensure the charity remains fully compliant in all taxation matters, including VAT and gift aid.
• Drive counter fraud and governance improvements: Act as the financial lead for the charity’s control environment and counter fraud framework. Champion improvements in fraud awareness, culture, and control.
• Manage key external relationships: Serve as the main contact for the charity’s bankers and investment managers, and act as secretary to the Finance Committee and Investment Advisory Group.

Key responsibilities

As the SHEQ Officer, your key responsibilities are as follows:

Health & Safety:

• Develop, implement, and maintain a health and safety system that complies with legal requirements and best practices.
• Conduct regular audits, inspections, and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and implement corrective actions.
• Oversee the creation and maintenance of local risk registers
• Deliver health and safety training to employees, promoting a culture of safety and awareness.

Environment, Sustainability and Wellbeing: 

• Develop, implement, and maintain an environmental management system that aligns with legal regulations and sustainability best practices. 
• Conduct regular environmental audits, inspections, and impact assessments to ensure compliance and identify areas for improvement.
• Implementing, maintaining and continually improving office initiatives across the organization  
• Provide training and guidance to employees on environmental policies and sustainability to promote responsible practices.

Quality Management & Supplier Governance:

• Develop, implement, and maintain quality practices that meet industry standards and regulatory requirements. 
• Conduct regular quality audits, inspections, and process evaluations to ensure continuous improvement and compliance with quality standards. 
• Establish and oversee supplier governance programs to ensure vendors meet quality, compliance, and performance expectations. 
• Perform supplier audits and assessments, working closely with vendors to drive improvements and maintain product and service quality. 
• Provide training and support to employees on quality procedures and best practices to enhance consistency and efficiency.

Emergency Preparedness & Disaster recovery & Business Continuity:

Partner with our Global Security team, local Global Operations staff and other key Operations units to:

• Develop and maintain local office emergency response, disaster recovery, and business continuity plans to minimize disruptions.
• Conduct risk assessments and regular training to ensure employees are prepared for office related emergencies.

Reporting & Documentation:

• Maintain accurate records of health and safety risk registers, incidents, maintenance activities, compliance reports and file with relevant authorities.
• Analyze data to identify trends, assess risks, and provide insights for continuous improvement.

Continuous Improvement & Innovation:

• Identify opportunities for improving safety practices, energy efficiency, and sustainability in Workplace Services.
• Stay up to date with industry trends, technological advancements, and regulatory changes, implementing best practices as applicable.

The ideal candidate

• Relevant Health and Safety qualification
• Relevant qualifications in Environmental, Quality and Wellbeing practices, including audits.
• Educated to a degree level (or equivalent substantial industry experience).

Health & Safety Experience:

• Proven experience in health and safety management, including developing and implementing safety policies and procedures.
• Familiarity with safety legislation, regulations, and standards (e.g., OSHA, ISO 45001).
• Experience conducting risk assessments, safety audits, and incident investigations.

Environmental Management Experience:

• Proven experience in developing and implementing environmental policies and management systems. 
• Strong knowledge of environmental regulations, standards, and best practices (e.g., ISO 14001, EPA regulations). 
• -Experience conducting environmental audits, impact assessments, and sustainability initiatives.

Quality Management & Supplier Governance Experience:

• Demonstrated experience in quality management, including implementing and maintaining quality control systems. 
• Familiarity with industry quality standards and frameworks (e.g., ISO 9001, Six Sigma, GMP). 
• Experience in supplier governance, including supplier audits, performance evaluations, and compliance monitoring.

Training and Communication:

• Proven experience delivering health and safety training to employees across various levels.

Emergency Response and Preparedness:

• Experience in developing and implementing local office emergency response plans, disaster recovery, and business continuity plans including evacuation procedures and first-aid readiness.
• Familiarity with conducting emergency drills and training staff on office safety protocols.

Data Analysis and Reporting:

• Experience in gathering and analysing data, tracking key performance indicators, and providing reports.
• Ability to identify trends and recommend improvements.

Languages:

• An excellent knowledge of English. Fluency in other languages, would be an asset.

About the Role

This is a pivotal role at the heart of the Charity, offering a unique opportunity to work closely with the CEO of a dynamic and life-saving Charity. As Executive Assistant to the CEO, you will provide comprehensive, high-quality executive support that enables the CEO to focus on strategic priorities, external engagement, and organisational leadership. You’ll be a trusted advisor and gatekeeper, anticipating needs, streamlining communications, and ensuring the CEO’s time is used effectively.

In addition, you will act as the Company Secretary, supporting the Charity’s governance framework, maintaining statutory compliance, and ensuring effective administration of the Board of Trustees and its subcommittees. There will also be the opportunity for Project Management.

Success in this role will require someone who is highly organised, discreet, and proactive, with high levels of integrity and resilience. You’ll need to be comfortable working at pace, able to manage competing priorities, and confident communicating with a wide range of stakeholders including Trustees, crew, funders, MPs and members of the public. You’ll also work closely with our teams in each nation to stay connected to their priorities and help translate their vital work into fundable and fund-winning cases for support.

It’s an exciting opportunity for someone who wants to deepen their expertise in trust fundraising while contributing to lasting change for unpaid carers.

About you

You’ll have experience of writing successful trust funding applications and will feel confident asking for grants of five figures or more. You enjoy writing clearly and persuasively, and you’re good at building positive relationships with funders over time.

You’re organised and reliable, able to manage a busy workload and keep on top of deadlines. You pay close attention to detail and take pride in producing accurate work, especially when reporting back to funders.
You’re someone who works well with others. You’ll enjoy talking to our teams in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland to understand what they need and how funding can help. You’re curious, committed, and care about making a difference to people’s lives.

It’s helpful if you already understand the charity landscape in the nations or the challenges unpaid carers face, but it’s not essential. Most important is that you bring a positive, thoughtful approach and are ready to learn.
