We’re looking for a Pets and Housing Development Lead, who will play a pivotal role in our projects, which strive to ensure owners and their pets stay together during difficult times.

What does this role do?

As Pets and Housing Development Lead, you’ll:

• manage the continuous development of our Pets and Housing services and projects, including leading on a critical new project moving our data to Salesforce,
• cultivate and maintain key external relationships, such as engaging veterinary practices signed up to our schemes or other organisations in the sector that we partner with,
• develop and create social media content to build the online presence our services have,
• work closely with the PR team to promote our services, from writing press releases to carrying out interviews, to ensure our work reaches the audiences where it can have the most impact.

Please note, this role is being offered as a fixed term, family leave cover contract until October 2026.

Could this be you?

To be successful in this role, you’ll need some experience of project management, as you’ll be working on some big projects that require significant planning and stakeholder management. Excellent communication skills are key, with the ability to build relationships and rapport with external and internal stakeholders at all levels. A strong understanding of social media, PR and online search engine optimisation would be very helpful. Above all, being passionate about the work we do for pets and their owners is essential.

What does this team do?

The outreach department supports people and dogs in crisis, such as those escaping domestic abuse or experiencing homelessness. These specialist services reduce the need for someone to unnecessarily relinquish or euthanise their dog due to the crisis they may be facing. They include Freedom, a specialist dog fostering service for people fleeing domestic abuse, and Pets and Housing projects that support people and their dogs experiencing homelessness and advocating for people to be accommodated with their pets at all stages of their housing journey.

About the role:

A typical week in this role might involve:

• Overseeing the delivery of project plan tasks across different stakeholders, to make sure everyone is meeting set KPIs and working to deadline
• Managing our relationship with the media agency, monitoring channel performance to make optimisations
• Working with creative agencies to brief and produce assets, using audience insights, that will inspire people to sign up for a Mighty Hike
• Managing expenditure budgets to ensure spend is tracking accurately against different media plans and suppliers
• Using data to report on performance and identify opportunities to drive growth and test new activations
• Leading on meetings with internal and external stakeholders to present the Mighty Hikes and inspire high levels of engagement and support

This role does require weekend work (although not at your desk) as you’ll be out and about cheering on our participants. A full UK driver’s license is preferred and a willingness to drive a van is a bonus. You will be compensated for your weekend work with days in lieu.

We are looking for an experienced marketing manager with a passion for project management, strong account management skills and a creative eye.

• Marketing skills: experience delivering multi-channel marketing campaigns across paid, owned and earned with a particular focus on digital channels
• Results-focussed: ability to analyse data to report on performance and make decisions for optimisation
• Project management and leadership: experience in leading individuals or teams to deliver a project, setting clear goals and delegating tasks effectively

• Provide training, development, work reviews and appraisals for paid staff to enable them to perform their jobs efficiently and effectively.
• Create an organised and pleasant working environment for staff and volunteers.
• Actively recruit the correct/specified number volunteers to deliver the stores objectives and KPI's.
• Ensure all financial, cash handling and security procedures are adhered to as per the Barnardo's Manager's Manual and the relevant Retail procedures.
• Hold the shop keys, ensuring that the shop is secure whenever it is left unattended.

Idea Candidates Must Haves:

• Ability to deliver excellent customer service.
• Experience of managing people
• Ability to liaise and respond to a variety of people from varying backgrounds.
• Ability to meet the needs of customers on a face-to-face basis, in order to generate sales and increase customer usage of the shop.
• Ability to add, subtract, divide, and multiply up to four figures in order to maintain budgets and complete accurately weekly income/banking sheets.
• Ability to handle cash and reconcile accurately.
• Proven experience of meeting targets and KPI's.
• Basic IT skills.
