Who we're looking for

We’re looking for a Communications Lead with excellent written communication skills to help us promote the Centre’s research, campaigns and services across a range of channels. You will ensure our written and visual outputs are of the highest quality, and harness the Centre’s respected brand and reputation to influence change. 

Day-to-day tasks include:

• Copy-editing and proofreading a range of written materials, including blogs and publications
• Laying out our research reports for publication using Adobe InDesign
• Creating on-brand, engaging infographics and social media assets
• Writing and curating content to post to our social media channels
• Producing the Centre's monthly newsletter using Mailchimp
• Issuing press releases and responding to press enquiries

We're looking for someone with strong attention to detail, experience of using Adobe InDesign or Adobe Illustrator, with skills in writing copy for a range of key audiences and channels.

We’re looking for someone who is passionate about tackling mental health inequalities, mindful of the sensitivities of communicating in this area, and able to harness and promote the Centre’s respected brand to drive change.

About the role
In this role you will provide advice and guidance to the organisation on all HR related matters, seeking additional support from specialist teams where required (ranging from policy advice, change, recruitment, reward, learning and development and transactional HR).

About the role:

We are looking to appoint an experienced Philanthropy Manager to proactively lead the cultivation and stewardship of potential and existing major donors, trusts and statutory bodies, with a particular focus on driving significant income growth.

Reporting to the Director of Fundraising and Engagement, the Philanthropy Manager will drive the growth of a portfolio of existing supporters and new prospects giving at the five and six figure gift level, with a particular focus on generating major gifts from new donors. Want to work with multiple award-winning charity, FoodCycle? As Regional Manager you will represent, manage and co-ordinate your allocated regional Projects. Our Projects are spaces where volunteers are empowered to run community meals using surplus food.​

You will manage local relationships with venues, community partners, supermarkets and volunteer recruitment channels to enable this to happen. the3million is the largest grassroots organisation for EU citizens* in the UK, formed after the 2016 referendum to protect the rights of people who have made the UK their home. 

Our work ranges from organising EU citizens’ communities and informing people about their rights, to holding the Government to account on the implementation of the Withdrawal Agreement and advocating for social justice.

We are now looking for a Research and Policy Manager to lead on evidence-based research and support in the analysis of government policy and legislation which impacts EU citizens in the UK. 

We are looking for a creative problem solver who is detail orientated and approaches research through an investigative lens. 

This work often intersects with the wider issues of social justice, migrant rights, race equality, and data rights. 

You will work closely with the Head of Policy and Advocacy to direct strategic research initiatives, presenting recommendations to influence decision-makers and guide advocacy efforts, ensuring the3million’s campaigns are informed and led by robust evidence of EU citizens’ lived experience. 

*the3million uses ‘EU citizens’ as shorthand for EU, EEA and Swiss citizens who were resident in the UK before 31 December 2020, and their family members (of any nationality) with derived rights.

Main duties and responsibilities: 

1. Strategic research and issue analysis

You will lead on the3million’s research, working closely with the Head of Policy and Advocacy to ensure our work is shaped by lived experience, analysing issues experienced by EU citizens related to applying for immigration status, proving their rights and accessing services in the UK. 

• Collect, analyse and categorise issues raised by EU citizens through the3million’s reporting channels, including highlighting correlations to equality characteristics such as race and ethnicity, age, gender etc (including our ReportIt! system, email, social media and listening campaigns). 
• Interview EU citizens who report issues, sharing information about rights, signposting to relevant legal advice organisations.
• Identify trends in the challenges faced by EU citizens, documenting these in detail, analysing systemic issues.
• Provide strategic guidance on how research findings can inform the3million’s advocacy, campaigns and communications activities.

2. Policy development and advocacy

• Contribute to the production of high-quality policy briefings, reports and strategic recommendations that are clear, actionable and directly relevant to stakeholders including the Government.
• Support in the research and analysis of government policy developments, legislative changes and public consultations affecting EU citizens in the UK, specifically on areas related to immigration and welfare, assessing their potential impact.

3. Report writing and presentation 

• Lead on the development of in-depth reports and support in the production of policy papers and position statements, presenting complex data into clear and accessible documents.
• Present research findings and policy recommendations at meetings and events, effectively communicating complex issues to audiences. 
• Contribute to the production of advocacy materials, including media briefings, campaigns’ resources and informational content for the3million’s website, social media channels and for event distribution.

4. Stakeholder engagement 

• Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including civil society organisations and other advocacy groups.
• Collaborate with other team members within the organisation to ensure research and policy recommendations are effectively integrated into the3million’s community organising activities, campaigns and strategic communications.

5. Monitoring and evaluation 

• Report on the progress and outcomes of research and policy activities regularly, within the organisation and to the3million’s funders. 

6. General responsibilities 

• Represent the views of the3million in the media, when appropriate.

Hand in Hand International is based in Baker Street, central London, and we have a team of 27 employees. We have a flexible, hybrid, working policy that includes work-from-home Mondays and Fridays. Our team works with partners throughout the global Hand in Hand network, specialising in fundraising, strategic and programmes advice, and donor relations.

Roles and Responsibilities

Reporting directly to the Director of Finance, the HR Manager – a new post - will be the principal HR point of contact and lead on the full breadth of day-to-day HR matters. They will make a pivotal key contribution to our aim to be an employer of choice, and overall to be an inclusive and positive place to work. Key responsibilities include:

Employee relations – Ensure that all of our employment documents such as contracts, policies, procedures, staff briefings and our staff handbook are kept up to date, reflect best practice and UK employment law, and that they are being applied across the organisation. Providing as appropriate, related information and support to managers and employees.  

Line manager support – Develop, and maintain, a handbook for line managers, supplemented with periodic guidance; review and meet learning and development needs to ensure line managers are well-supported and able to perform their roles effectively.

HR systems and processes – Manage the collection and recording of relevant information across a breadth of employment matters including attendance, recruitment processes, equality and diversity, performance management etc. Undertake research and analysis and support the Director of Finance in the preparation of their reports on employment matters.

Recruitment – Develop and support Hand in Hand’s recruitment, executing onboarding and offboarding processes, ensuring these align with our aims and maximise our potential to recruit and retain a great team.

Change management - Support the implementation of a digital HR platform as part of a wider organisational systems upgrade project, led by the Digital Systems Manager, together with any future change projects that will enhance our HR services and the support we are able to provide to our managers and employees.

Pay and benefits – Carry out periodic benchmarks and reviews of employee pay and benefits, focussing on the sector we operate in.

Staff surveys – Carry out our annual staff survey, together with any additional temperature checks as required, presenting the findings and recommendations to the senior management team. Manage the implementation of any agreed changes and improvements to our employment arrangements following the surveys.

Projects and general support – Undertake HR projects as required and provide HR support to employees and line managers in the event of any queries as they arise. Additionally, take a proactive approach in providing guidance and suggestions for improvements, simplification and change as and when appropriate.

Skills and knowledge

· CIPD qualification level 5, or above

· A full understanding of UK employment law, HR functions and best practices

· Experience supporting small organisations (<50 employees) with establishing, and implementing, policies and procedures

· Able to prioritise with excellent time management

· Strong verbal and written communication skills

· Good analytical skills, with the ability to draw out useful information to inform reports and actions

· Excellent attention to detail

· Approachable, empathetic and able to deal with any employee issues calmly and swiftly

The Role

The Marketing and Communications Manager is a core role. You will work directly with the Head of Content and Communications (HoC) and Creative Content Designer and Animator on the delivery of a communications strategy focused on increasing visibility and impact.
