About the role
As a Trustee of Foodrise, you will play a vital role in shaping the strategic direction of our charity. Your leadership and expertise will help us expand our impact, strengthen our governance, and drive innovation. Our board is committed, engaged, and passionate about the work we do. About this key role
As a Reception Volunteer, you will welcome all visitors in a warm, friendly, and professional manner, handle incoming phone calls and direct queries appropriately, plus monitor and manage the reception inbox and incoming correspondence. You will maintain a clean, organised, and accessible reception area, register visitors, ensure sign-in procedures are followed, and issue visitor badges and support security and safeguarding protocols, including monitoring access.
We will rely on you to support meeting room bookings and logistics, assist with incoming and outgoing post and deliveries, and help maintain supplies and reception materials (leaflets, forms, etc.), while also assisting with simple data entry and document filing as needed. Working collaboratively with staff and fellow volunteers and contributing towards a positive workplace culture are both key duties, as is ensuring that confidentiality and security of information is maintained in accordance with our Confidentiality, Data Protection, IT and Security policies.

Family Lives was formed over forty years ago by volunteers with the aim of ensuring that all parents had somewhere to turn before they reach crisis point.
We know that the right support at the right time makes all the difference.
Family Lives provides targeted early intervention and crisis support to families who are struggling.
Purpose of the role:
To be part of a flexible team providing empathic, caring and informed support to families, carers and others who use our services.
Our volunteers take calls from parents and carers on a wide range of subjects, whether that might be issues around separation and divorce, isolation, depression, bullying and abuse, dealing with behavioural problems, etc. You can find out more about our services on our website. We are a national service with home-based call takers county wide and a call centre in Old Hatfield Hertfordshire.
Once trained volunteers sign up for a weekly 4-hour shift comprising 3 hours ‘online’ followed by a debrief session with your supervisor which can last around half to one hour.
We recruit volunteers with a range of backgrounds and experiences though we ask that volunteers have experience of parenting or working with children and young people, are good listeners and have a willingness to learn. Being remote it will be very important that you have a PC/laptop, plug in headset with microphone, good Wi-Fi and a private place to work from home. You need to be a UK resident.
Our volunteers often tell us how rewarding their time with us is.
You'll be part of a compassionate community and feel a real sense of pride for what you do. You'll meet new people, gain valuable experience, and develop your skillset. We're passionate about helping people to reach their full potential, so we'll offer you full training suitable for the role, supervision from a named member of staff, including help setting personal development goals, and opportunities to increase skills and input into practice via regular Practice Development Groups.
Our training programme is excellent and will give you the opportunity to develop the skills needed to offer empathic support and guidance to callers whatever their circumstances; all shifts are overseen by a regular shift supervisor who provides ongoing remote support.
We ask our volunteers to make a commitment of 1 year (with time off for holidays), obviously we understand that circumstances sometimes make that an impossibility but can be helpful to know at the outset that is the general expectation.
We have remote call taker training sessions that run over five sessions and is done remotely connecting you via a Microsoft Teams link. Our next training is starting in September 2025.

Retail & Furniture Assembly Volunteers - A New Volunteer Opportunity in Acorns Children's Hospice Superstore in Tewkesbury
Acorns have a network of shops across the West Midlands that generate a substantial level of income to enable us to care for children and their families.
To help us to continue to provide the care that we do, we are looking for fun and enthusiastic volunteers to join us in our Tewkesbury Superstore. Our shops are exciting and dynamic, with no two days being the same. From our walk-in customers, to receiving donations, and everything in between. the store is open Monday to Saturday 9am to 5pm
Sunday 10am to 4pm
What does volunteering involve?
Shop Volunteer

Furniture Assembly Volunteer

The charity had fallen into poor condition in 2018, and the board of the Leonard Hackett Memorial Trust stepped in and took over the charity and rescued the buildings carrying out immediate refurbishment.
They are now looking to recruit Trustees to join its Board of Trustees, which sets and approves the charity’s strategy ensuring the charity's continued success and sustainability, overseeing the ongoing care of the historic buildings, and ensuring the residents feel supported, valued, and at home.
You’ll be part of a small team responsible for protecting and enhancing a vital community asset, balancing tradition with modern needs.
Edmund Sawyer is particularly keen to hear from people who can bring the following skills and experience:
- Finance with a charity background desirable not essential
- Health and welfare of elderly people
- Management of social housing/Local Authority background/Regulation of social housing
- Law/Paralegal
- Charity governance
And with the following personal qualities:
- Commitment to Edmund Sawyer values.
- Willingness to devote the necessary time and effort using your knowledge and skills for the benefit of the charity.
- Good judgment and the ability to think creatively.
- The willingness to speak your mind and to work effectively as a member of a team and to take collective responsibility.

As a trustee of Edmund Sawyer Almshouse, you will be safeguarding the legacy of this charitable institution, ensuring the buildings are properly maintained and cared for and supporting residents and making sure they feel secure and welcome in their homes. You will also be part of the strategy to guide the future direction of the Almshouse to meet evolving community needs.

Time commitment: Trustees are expected to attend a minimum of 5 meetings per year. This is four Trustee Review Meetings and one AGM. Given the size of the charity, it is likely that trustees would also be involved in the odd ad hoc meeting relating to property or resident issues.
