Social work volunteer roles

We are looking for a Social Media Specialist who can strategically identify, and post, engaging content for our social media feeds, which will inspire people to support our work with refugees and asylum seekers in Epirus.

In your role, you will interact with our Instagram and Facebook communities to increase engagement, followers and the quality of their experience. You will also identify key influencers and conversations where we can engage to better showcase our work and expand our reach. You are the person who thinks “this would make a good post” while activities are taking place. More than that, your interest and belief in social media as a force for good should be backed with an interest in data and analytics, using them to influence our social media communication strategy.

Skills Required:

• Strong written and spoken English skills
• Proactive, problem-solving mind-set
• Demonstrable ability to manage a Facebook, Twitter or Instagram feed in a professional capacity
• Ability to demonstrate your success at creating and delivering social media strategies for specific projects
• Ability to show your experience at producing regular reports using Facebook Insights, Twitter Analytics, Google Analytics or similar tools.
• Data-driven and have an evidence-led approach to social media strategy.
• Up-to-date with the latest trends/developments in social media communications.
• Ability to manage and prioritise multiple tasks and respond flexibly.
• Ability to deal with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
• Ability to identify key influential external figures and agencies to further our social media reach and impact.

Skills Desired:

• Experience working in a refugee context or with a vulnerable population

Your responsibilities:

• Regularly post and schedule content on Second Tree’s social media feeds.
• Work with the wider Second Tree team to ensure that all content on our social media feeds aligns with organisational, and specific project strategies.
• Work with Second Tree team to moderate and respond to comments and interact with followers to best develop our online communities.
• Produce regular reports on social media performance.
• Use Google Analytics (or similar) to produce reports on referrals to the Second Tree website and conversions attributable to social content.
• Advise colleagues and help them to develop content strategies based on previous reports and insights
• Develop social media strategies to expand our reach and impact through social media channels
• Identify key social influencers who we can engage with
• Maintain a strong knowledge of developments, innovations, and new tech in social media and identify any that may be of benefit/interest to Second Tree

What We Offer:

We have two volunteer houses that can host up to nine people where long-term volunteers are accommodated. Some volunteers choose to rent their own accommodation. In certain periods of the year, demand is extremely high, and the volunteer houses might be full. If you have the means to pay for your own accommodation, please let us know. We would still be happy to host you if space is available. However, in a situation where the volunteer houses are full, this would allow us to offer a volunteering opportunity to someone that cannot afford to pay rent.

The successful candidate will be encouraged to join us on the ground and immerse themselves in our work. Your participation could take on many forms, from support in the education programs to activities in the kindergarten to the delivery of workshops and expeditions with the Youth Scouts – we look forward to hearing your ideas on how best to apply your skills in this context. By coming here, you would gain a first-hand experience of the situation on the ground, working in a grassroots organization with a small but dedicated team. This immersion will give you a solid sense of our work, our mission and our approach – which would facilitate your ability to attract supporters.

About the role

Role purpose

As a Trustee you will make a significant contribution to creating empowering opportunities for young people from under-represented backgrounds. 

The role of the Trustee is to ensure that Career Ready is carrying out its purpose, as set out in the Memorandum and Articles of Association, and that it complies with the law.

Trustees must always act in the best interests of Career Ready, with reasonable care and skill, whilst also ensuring it is accountable.  They must also ensure that Career Ready manages its’ resources effectively and sets the forward direction of the organisation.

Main responsibilities and accountabilities

· Ensuring that Career Ready functions within the legal and financial requirements of a Charitable Company

· Account for the work of Career Ready to Companies House, The Charity Commission, OSCR, funders

· Managing risks, protecting assets (reputation) and people

· Determining the overall policy and direction of the Charity

Deafblind UK members have combined sight and hearing loss and many can feel lonely or socially isolated. We offer a free telephone befriending service where we match volunteers with one of our members to have a weekly 30 minute chat together.

We are looking for confident, empathetic and friendly people who can hold a good conversation. You could be chatting about similar interests or learning about each other’s lives. Whatever the conversation you’ll be having a positive impact.

One 30 minute call seems really simple but having someone to talk to and someone to listen, could really make a difference to our members. It could be that you’re the only person they speak to that day, or even that week.

Our members love to chat with people who have had some life experience and stories to tell. You will need good communication skills and be able to strike up a conversation. You will also need to be reliable, patient with a naturally warm and friendly nature.

We will ensure you are supported throughout your journey with us, offering training and support at all times.

· Experience working in the context of African and/or Asian markets.

· An understanding of and commitment to international development and social enterprise.

· An understanding of the requirements of good governance in a not-for-profit organisation such as Reall.

· An understanding of risk management principles and their applications in managing a business.

· An understanding of good HR and/or organisational development practice.

· An effective communicator to inspire people to engage with Reall’s work.

· An understanding of the impact of diversity and inclusion on corporate performance.

· A commitment to giving the necessary time and effort to engage effectively with the work of Reall.

Intelligent, influential, and focused Trustees wanted for game-changing yet embracing charity 
 
A powerful campaigning organisation, Brain Tumour Research is the leading voice of the brain tumour community in the UK. Unique and much needed, we are the only national charity focused on finding a cure for all types of brain tumours. Our work focuses on campaigning to increase the national investment in research into brain tumours to £35 million per year, while fundraising to create a network of seven sustainable Brain Tumour Research Centres of Excellence, across the UK. Brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer, yet just 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this devastating disease since records began in 2002.  All of us at Brain Tumour Research are passionate about finding a cure for this devastating disease.  

About the roles
We are looking to strengthen and complement our Board of Trustees with the addition of two Trustees with experience in (1) charitable fundraising/ income generation, and (2) marketing and communications, possibly with campaigning and policy experience. As a member of the Board of Trustees you will play a key role in ensuring sustainable growth of the charity, contributing to overall strategic direction and providing scrutiny to our processes and decisions as well as ensuring standards of governance are upheld.   
 
This role is pro-bono with Board meetings held in person four times a year in Milton Keynes and Sub-Committees held three to four times a year online. You will attend the annual Board away day in person and join one or more sub-committees. Trustees are given the opportunity to work together through participation at our annual research workshops as well as receptions at our Research Centres and parliamentary events and undertake structured learning and development. 

Appointment is for a 3-year term with the potential to serve 2 additional terms.

The Skills and Experience we are looking for
The ideal person will have a background at board or senior leadership level and will have significant experience in raising charitable income and/or campaigning and policy, ideally in the charity sector. You will be an effective communicator and be able to think creatively and strategically and work collaboratively with Board members, the Leadership team and key partners.

This role involves helping out at The Talk Shop making this a warm, friendly place for local people to connect with each other and with Cliik and other community organisations in the area. This could include:
● being available to meet and greet people who pop in to the shop,

● You will meet new people, learn new skills and enjoy sharing some of your existing skills. You will have the opportunity to make a difference in the community and to feel like you are a part of a local organisation run by local people for local people.
● When you start, you will be given training and information you need to carry out the role. You will have regular supervision and support. You will be able to demonstrate experience working with people in any future job application and get a reference which explains the work that you have done with Cliik at The Talk Shop.

What we ask for
● Volunteers need to be welcoming to people who visit The Talk Shop and to be able to get on with people from a wide range of backgrounds. We expect all of our volunteers and staff to treat everyone in our community with respect.
● We ask for a regular commitment of at least one weekly slot, usually around 3 hours.
● Because the role involves meeting people in the community, some of whom may be children, young people and vulnerable adults, building relationships with them, and holding responsibility for sometimes being alone in The Talk Shop, we will need to follow safer recruitment procedures.

Independent visitors befriend and socialise with children & young people in care and care leavers up to the age of 25

 Responsibilities:

· An Independent Visitor provides a stable, adult role model for a young person.

· They visit monthly and befriend and listen to the young person and share their interests and hobbies.

· Provide support and empowerment to help the young person plan for their future

· Identify where the young person might benefit from specialist support and help them to access it

· To act within ONSIDE’s safeguarding policies

Skills & qualities required:

· Good communication and interpersonal skills

· Ability to build trust and a friendly relationship with children & young people in care and care leavers

· Be prepared for an open-ended supportive relationship within and potentially after care

· Demonstrate empathy and understanding to the needs of the children and young people
