Our client the Coroners’ Court Support Service is currently recruiting for two Trustees to join its board. is an independent voluntary organisation whose trained volunteers offer emotional support and practical help to bereaved families, witnesses and others attending an Inquest at a Coroner’s Court.  They are a charity who do not receive central funding, and rely on grants and donations to be able to undertake their work. 

The CCSS is now looking to appoint two new Trustees onto it’s board:

Public Relations /Media/Communications/Marketing Trustee – an experienced Marketing & Communications professional who will contribute to strategic discussions and decisions, with a particular focus on all marketing and communications aspects. You will be an expert in marketing or PR/Communications along with sector knowledge in press/media management.

Legal Trustee - A legal expert who can help guide the charity through the legal implications of their options, whilst also ensuring that the CCSS complies with its governing documents, charity law and relevant legislation.

Trustees have a duty to ensure that the charity is well run, solvent, legally compliant, and working towards the charitable purpose for which it was established, and Trustee roles are an important and highly rewarding way to support an award winning organisation. Please note that Trustee roles are unremunerated voluntary positions, although reasonable travel expenses will be paid.

• Complete individual assessments and complete one to one personalised support for veterans within the prison environment, which includes casework.
• Promote the services available to family members.
• Establish an agreement around the rate of visits with the VCJS team and the prison.
• Record the support offered to veterans accordingly and appropriately.
• Complete monitoring reports.

The skills you need

• Be over 21.
• Have a good level of fitness to able to move around a prison quickly - including stairs.
• Excellent listening skills.
• Awareness of boundaries and confidentiality.
• Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with a range of people, including prison staff, other agencies, SSAFA colleagues and clients.
• Positive, committed and non-judgemental. Non-judgemental and empathetic attitude.
• Good IT skills.
• An enhanced DBS check is required for this role. Individual prisons will determine if they authorise individuals to be based in their facilities based on security considerations. Security Vetting by His Majesty’s Prison Service is often required. For further discussion, please get in touch.

Citrus Arts, a circus and outdoor arts organisation in Pontypridd in the South Wales valleys, is looking for new trustees to join our small yet mighty board.

Who are Citrus?

We’re an arts charity with a vision of a flourishing creative community rooted in the ethos of the travelling circus 

Citrus’ mission is to use the hands-on skills of circus and outdoor arts life to nurture citizenship and kindness in our neighbourhood, and to ignite creativity, connecting our community to self, to each other and to the land through hosting spectacular shared experiences.

What do we do?

Paid training in outdoor arts technical skills for young people not in education, employment or training (ArtWorkers scheme) see short film

Circus classes for children and adults at our base at Hopkinstown Hall

Who are we looking for?

We are seeking new members to join our board and help us drive the company, ensuring that we work with determination and flair in everything we do.

We’re particularly interested in hearing from people who live in Hopkinstown or the local area, who are Welsh speakers and/ or who feel their lived experience is underrepresented in the arts or on charity boards.We are also interested in hearing from folks with experience in environmental sustainability, safeguarding, marketingor relationship building, staff management, data protection and/ or venue management. The most important thing, however, is that you are interested in the arts and have a desire and enthusiasm for helping our community and our young people to embrace creativity, citizenship and kindness.

A trustee is a person who takes care of the work of a charity, making sure it meets its charitable aims and carries out everything it does in a legal and professional way. Trustees have meetings every few months to check on, plan and discuss the work of the charity. Trustees do not get paid for being trustees, but they do get expenses for any travel etc.

Citrus’ board meetings are held around 4 times a year, usually on Zoom, and there are other Citrus creative events we love our board members to attend where possible. These can include screenings, gigs, performances, festival, workshops and much more. We aim to support our board with training and development needs as well as social opportunities. 

Currently, Citrus Arts has 4 trustees and we’re looking for 3 or 4 more.

As Chair of Trustees you will provide strategic direction for the charity, ensuring that we are meeting the demand for our services, and making certain that we help and support people in crisis in the local community.

What will you be doing?

This role involves leading and overseeing the trustee board in ensuring the effective performance of its legal, regulatory and governance responsibilities. It is also an essential part of the role to support the Foodbank leader to achieve the vision/objectives of the Foodbank and to ensure there is a positive relationship between the trustee board, Foodbank staff, volunteers, and any other stakeholders.

Chairperson Responsibilities:

• chair trustee meetings so that the board functions effectively and carries out its duties
• ensure the board sets an overall direction for the Foodbank with clear objectives
• ensure that the business of meetings is dealt with, and decisions are recorded and implemented
• in consultation with the rest of the board, recruit board members with relevant expertise and experience when required
• to ensure that there is appropriate line management in place to manage the FoodBank Manage

Ensure an effective relationship between staff, volunteers, and stakeholders:

• to plan with the Foodbank Manager, an annual schedule of any subcommittee/steering group meetings and other key events which board members should attend
• to work alongside the Foodbank Manager to ensure there is appropriate communication between the trustee board and staff, volunteers, and any other stakeholders.

Other responsibilities, along with the board of trustees, include:

• to approve, support and guide the charity’s purpose, vision, strategy, goals and objectives
• to manage the charity’s resources responsibly, ensuring the charity’s assets are used only to carry out its purpose, ensure the charity does not become over-committed, and ensure that key risks are identified, monitored and controlled appropriately
• to ensure the effective and efficient administration of the charity, responding to changes in the local community as appropriate
• to ensure appropriate financial plans are in place, budgets are monitored, financial statements are reviewed, and progress is evaluated
• to help promote the organisation to key stakeholders and beneficiaries
• to ensure the charity has appropriate procedures to comply with current legislation and good practice, including employment, health and safety, equity, diversity and inclusion, safeguarding, and GDPR compliance/data protection
• to prepare for and regularly attend and participate in board and subcommittee meetings and any trustee away days.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for people who want to help their local community and work towards the eradication of food poverty. Our ideal candidates would demonstrate:

• a knowledge of and commitment to the work of the South East Edinburgh Foodbank
• an ability to lead a trustee team in a supportive and confident manner
• experience of leadership and charity governance as part of a Board of Trustees, including familiarity with chairing meetings
• a broad knowledge and understanding of the third sector
• strong inter-personal and relationship building skills
• experience leading through periods of development and change
• excellent meeting and presentation skills
• sympathetic to the faith position of the South East Edinburgh Foodbank as a Christian charity

We Stand is the only national charity that specialises in helping non-abusing parents and carers to protect and support their sexually abused children.

Our Mission is to provide support in a non - judgmental environment for non abusing parents and carers of sexually abused children. 

Our Services help families at a time of extreme trauma caused by child sexual abuse – providing emotional and practical support to young victims, siblings and non-abusing parents/carers so that they can move on positively with their lives together. 

Board

We Stand is run by a Board made up of volunteer Trustees. We are seeking a committed and passionate individual, to fill the role of a Chair of the Board.​
 

Expectations of Chair role

• Experience of strategic leadership: Guiding the board in setting the charity's strategic direction, ensuring alignment with its mission and objectives. 

• Governance Oversight: Monitoring the board's performance and ensuring trustees fulfill their duties and responsibilities. 

• Meeting Management: Leading board meetings, ensuring they are conducted effectively and efficiently, and that all necessary information is available. 

• Relationship Management: Building and maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders, including the CEO, staff, and other trustees. 

• Risk Management: Overseeing the identification and management of key risks and opportunities for the charity. 

• Ambassadorial Role: Representing the charity to external stakeholders and promoting its work. 

• Support and Challenge: Providing support and guidance to the CEO, while also challenging them to ensure effective performance and decision-making. 

• Time Commitment: Dedicating sufficient time and effort to the role, including attending meetings, preparing for meetings, and engaging in other related activities. 
   

Experience of holding a previous Chair position is not essential, but desirable. Experience of working at a senior level is essential.
