The Finance Officer will join a small and dynamic team that covers Finance, Human Resources, IT and Business Operations. The Finance & Operations team play a critical role by running the day-to-day operations and providing the infrastructure that enables the continued delivery of the Trust’s mission and objectives.

The Sutton Trust is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Finance Officer to join the team and provide crucial support on a range of key finance processes. Main duties

• Maintaining the Purchase Ledger including processing supplier invoices, staff expense claims, grant and bursary payments, reconciling statements and making the relevant payments
• Maintaining the Sales Ledger including raising invoices and allocating receipts
• Cash management including checking bank transactions daily, allocating transactions on the accounting system and producing regular bank reconciliations. Paying in cheques and reconciling floats, if required
• Maintaining accurate records of both unrestricted and restricted fund transactions including receipts, grants, staff expenses, overheads and cash
• Providing timely and accurate financial support to the Programmes, Development and Research teams to assist them with forecasting, budgeting, reconciliation and (donor) reporting
• Supporting with the month end procedures such as balance sheet reconciliations, depreciation, month end adjustments, salary and overhead allocations
• Gathering monthly payroll information and reviewing monthly payroll reports
• Assisting with the administration of the pension scheme and of employee benefits
• Preparing quarterly Gift Aid claims and maintaining the relevant supporting documentation
• Assisting with the year-end statutory accounts preparation, audit and budget setting process
• Ensuring that the filing is done in a timely manner and that all paperwork is up to date
• Proactively updating your own knowledge in relation to the role, identifying and undertaking appropriate training
• Keeping up to date with legislation, policies and procedures relevant to the role and the Trust’s work
• Contributing to continuous process improvement efforts and suggesting ways to further automate tasks with the new accounting system
• Assist with creating finance procedure notes for the new accounting system.

Person Specification

Skills and Experience

We are looking for an individual who can demonstrate:

• Excellent numeracy skills and strong verbal and written communication skills
• Strong organisational and problem-solving skills with the ability to multi-task
• Sound understanding of double entry book-keeping including month end adjustments
• Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
• Confidentiality

And who is:

• AAT qualified, holds a similar qualification or is working towards qualification

In addition, experience in the following areas will help you to stand out. However, this is not required, and training will be provided if needed for the right candidate:

• Experience of working in a busy finance department with responsibility for similar tasks
• Experience of working in the education or not-for-profit sector
• Experience of working with Xledger or equivalent accounting software

Terms of Appointment

• Contract: Full-time, Permanent (part-time considered)
• Salary: £33,000-£36,000
• Office location: The Sutton Trust, 9th Floor, Millbank Tower, 21-24 Millbank, London, SW1P 4QP. Our home working policy gives staff the option to work from home for up to 60% of the time, with approval from their line manager.
• Hours: The standard working hours are 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday and may also be required to attend events / meetings outside of their normal working hours during weekday evenings and occasionally at weekends

This is an exciting opportunity for a trusts and foundations fundraiser with some experience to shape a new role. Organisation Overview:  

Unpaid carers are the unsung heroes in our communities, supporting relatives, friends, and neighbours, often with limited or no support, to live the best lives they can.

Carers Centre Tower Hamlets (CCTH) is a small, committed organisation dedicated to supporting unpaid carers through a variety of specialist services, from social and therapeutic activities to emotional, mentoring, advocacy, and signposting support. We aim to enrich and empower unpaid carers’ lives, providing them with the support they so selflessly give to others. We are now recruiting to our team someone who will lead on our work to support Carers as part of the Barnsley Street Mental Health Project. 

Project Overview:  

The Barnsley Street Project is a Community Mental Health Pilot aimed at delivering continuous, person-centred mental health care to underserved populations in PCN1 (Bethnal Green). This initiative is a collaborative effort between East London Foundation Trust (ELFT), Tower Hamlets Mental Health Alliance (THMHA), and the Look Ahead Housing Association. Driven by the voice of lived experience, the project is designed to address the systemic gaps in mental health services, particularly for marginalised communities.  

Purpose of the role:  

To identify and coordinate an effective support service for unpaid carers who support residents who access the Barnsley Street Project, with the aim of supporting carers to have their needs met as well as develop a healthy and sustainable caring role.    

To facilitate access for unpaid carers in the Barnsley Street Project to appropriate support services, both statutory and voluntary. To provide comprehensive support and information to families and carers. To raise awareness of carers’ needs with professionals in the project environment and contribute to carer friendly policies.   

The post will involve the direct provision of services, referral to and between services, collaborative work with other local agencies and outreach work. The post-holder will provide advocacy, referral, and ongoing practical and emotional support to unpaid carers through individual and group work.    

Responsibilities: 

• Identification and Support: Proactively identify carers of residents who utilise the Barnsley Street Project, and provide them with tailored support, ensuring their well-being is prioritised. 

• Information and Guidance: Offer information about available resources, support services, and community networks to assist carers effectively. 

• Communication Liaison: Facilitate communication between clinical staff and carers, ensuring they are kept informed about the patient's condition, treatment plan, and any discharge process. 

• Emotional Support: Provide compassionate emotional support to carers, listening to their concerns and offering a caring presence during difficult times. 

• Training and Education: Organise workshops and peer support groups to equip carers with essential skills for their caregiving role. 

• Advocacy: Advocate for carers' needs and rights within the setting, ensuring their voices are heard and respected. 

Requirements: 

• Previous experience in an advice or support role within a mental health or healthcare environment is preferred. 

• Empathetic and compassionate nature, with a genuine commitment to supporting carers during challenging times. 

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with carers, hospital staff, and external partners. 

• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team, managing priorities efficiently.

Purpose of the role:

At NEON, we know that you can’t separate the external work of the organisation from the internal work. They are so interlinked and interdependent that they both have to be given priority and resources if we want to achieve high impact. We see them as inseparable. 

So the purpose of this role is to support NEON achieving its mission by ensuring the smooth running of NEON’s finance systems and processes. You’ll do this by delivering on the main financial tasks day-to-day, and support with finance projects aimed at improving NEON’s systems.

Key Responsibilities: 

1. Doing all of our day-to-day fundraising administration to keep us well-organised and compliant. This includes:

   1. Recording and monitoring fundraising data using our Fundraising Tracking Database

   2. Keeping all of our grant agreements, contracts and other relevant documentation well-organised on GDrive and elsewhere 

   3. Ensuring compliance with the financial requirements of the grant agreements, and updating and maintaining the grant payments schedule 

   4. Raising invoices on Xero in line with funder agreements - noting instalment dates and receipts

2. Preparing payroll each month, ensuring everything happens on time and coordinating with our payroll agency. (This may only be a temporary responsibility) 

3. Processing and reconciling payments. This includes:

   1. Reconciling bank receipts and chasing late payments

   2. Processing supplier invoices and payments

   3. Monitoring our team’s Pleo card expenses and posting on Slack to our team for authorisation

   4. Managing the subscriptions on Pleo cards (this is likely a temporary responsibility until our People & Ops Manager returns from sabbatical leave)

4. Preparing some financial reports and accounts. This includes accounts to trial balance, and ad hoc reports from Xero when our team have finance queries or need support

5. Supporting with finance projects which make our finance systems work more efficiently, simply and sustainably e.g. helping to update our budget spreadsheets and approach to budgeting, or moving to a new bank

6. Supporting the Head of Finance with budgets, financial planning and reports and any other ad hoc finance tasks

7. Being part of Ops Hub shared work and cross-organisational work and team days 

About you:

• You have experience dealing with people in different capacities, both internally and externally, on a day to day basis, and build strong working relationships

• You have solid finance experience and skill. For us that means:

  1. a minimum of three years work experience in a finance role, preferably within the charity/non profit sector. This means you have a good understanding of non-profit finance, including VAT and managing restricted and unrestricted funds

  2. a solid understanding of Accounts Payable (with BACs, invoicing, etc) and Receivable (invoicing and credit control) processes

  3. a Level 4 AAT, equivalent qualification or equivalent experience

  4. experience in control accounts reconciliation, and posting journals

• You know how to use accounting software and apps (e.g., Xero, Quickbooks, Sage) as well as Microsoft Excel or Google sheets

• You are proactive, well-organised and feel empowered to solve problems yourself when they come up (sometimes described as an “ownership mindset”), as well as balancing this with asking for help when you need it

• Maintaining accurate records of both unrestricted and restricted fund transactions including receipts, grants, staff expenses, overheads and cash
• Providing timely and accurate financial support to the Programmes, Development and Research teams to assist them with forecasting, budgeting, reconciliation and (donor) reporting

• Office location: The Sutton Trust, 9th Floor, Millbank Tower, 21-24 Millbank, London, SW1P 4QP. Our home working policy gives staff the option to work from home for up to 60% of the time, with approval from their line manager.

The Role

We are excited to be recruiting a new Trusts and Grants Manager and are seeking to appoint an experienced and motivated individual to operationalise and deliver a refreshed trusts and grants strategy at Penny Brohn UK.

This is a key role within our High Value Fundraising Team, with responsibility for managing the full trusts and grants portfolio, from smaller awards (c. £5,000) through to significant high-value grants (typically £10,000 and above). The postholder will lead on developing a strong funder pipeline, submitting high-quality applications and reports, stewarding funders, and maximising income across the programme.

The successful candidate will initially hold sole responsibility for the trusts and grants income stream, with support from the Head of Fundraising and Communications. However, depending on income growth over the first 12–18 months, there may be an opportunity to expand the team and recruit a Trusts and Grants Officer to support delivery, which would bring a future line management element to the role.

This role would suit someone who has previously managed an income stream within a smaller charity environment, or an experienced Trusts and Grants Officer who is looking to take the next step into a management-level position.

The Hardman Trust is the only charity in England, Wales and Scotland focusing on the unique needs of people on long term sentences.
People facing decades of prison time often completely lose connection with their family and friends on the outside. Depending on the prison, there may be limited access to rehabilitative programmes and educational courses until later in the sentence. It can be hard to maintain hope, and direction, or create meaningful plans for the future.
People leaving prison after 10 years will have different needs to those leaving after 10 months. The world has changed – there are different habits and new social norms. Prices have gone up, technology has evolved, neighbourhoods look different, and the workplace has changed. It takes time to adjust.

The Hardman Trust is at an exciting point in its development as it celebrates the arrival of its new team, the realisation of its first ever organisational strategy and looks forward to the next phase of its journey.
Our successful multi-year applications to the Lottery (Reaching Communities), City Bridge Trust and Bromley Trust means we will continue to be part-funded by them until 2027.
