Key Responsibilities
Spear Foundation
- Recruit young people onto the course and prepare them to engage.
- Prepare and deliver coaching sessions for up to 15 young people to transform their attitudes and readiness to step into the world of work.
- Work with volunteers to deliver one-to-one weekly sessions to check-in on individual progress, guide and motivate them.
- Build relationships with the young people and keep them engaged.
Spear Career
- Maintain contact with trainees and continue relationships with them to keep track of their progress into employment and encourage them.
- Maintain records through data gathering and data entry into Salesforce.
Relationship management
- Build and manage relationships with a variety of stakeholders, including referrers, local businesses and other organisations.
- Participate in job fairs, run taster sessions, recruit and support volunteers for mock interview days, and welcome visitors to the centre.
Church community
- Fully engage with the Trinity and St Paul’s staff teams, including participation in staff prayers, socials and retreat days.
- Be an advocate for the Spear Programme within the life of the church, including the recruitment of volunteers.

As part of a project funded by the Comino Foundation, the Teaching and Assessment Research Specialist will help to increase teachers’ assessment literacy by managing a portfolio of assessment-themed online events, developing a suite of assessment-themed resources, co-ordinating the work of the Next Generation Assessment group and developing an overview of evidence-informed teaching and assessment strategies and how they link to intended student outcomes, based on a series of rapid evidence reviews.
Over the course of the assignment, you will support the Head of Research and Policy and work closely with the Research Lead and the Events and Engagement Manager to create and manage an engaging portfolio of online, assessment-themed events and resources.
This would be an ideal opportunity for anyone with proven expertise in and understanding of the links between evidence-informed teaching and assessment approaches and how they link to desired learning outcomes. You will:
- rapidly review evidence of assessment methods and pedagogies designed to cultivate knowledge, skills and dispositions of pupils, identifying gaps
- with support, produce evidence synthesis for a small number of key methods, not currently widely used by teachers
- manage a portfolio of online events aimed at developing teachers’ and school leaders’ levels of assessment literacy
- co-ordinate the work of the Next Generation Assessment group
- create online resources for the Chartered College member platform relating to evidence-informed teaching and assessment.
The postholder will also be required to collate policy announcements around assessment and monitor any developments relating to the use of EdTech and AI for assessment. The ultimate aim of this work is to help illustrate that the common ‘trad’ versus ‘prog’ debates that still dominate many discussions in education are ultimately unhelpful and teachers need a wide range of different teaching approaches to help support a range of intended learning outcomes. Skills and experience
Essential
- Postgraduate qualification in Education or a relevant field
- Experience conducting rapid evidence reviews relating to teaching, learning and assessment
- Experience of teaching in schools in the UK or internationally
- Experience producing content for a range of audiences including teachers, school leaders and policymakers
- Excellent knowledge and understanding of effective, evidence-informed approaches to teaching, learning, and assessment
- Experience developing and managing an online portfolio of events and resources
- Experience managing and chairing meetings, including the production of written summaries of discussions for a wide range of audiences

- A PhD in a relevant field

The Partnerships Manager will play a central role in helping the RES achieve its strategic goals by developing, building and sustaining partnerships to deliver external funding. The individual will manage existing relationships, identify opportunities, lead bid writing, develop compelling funding proposals, and build relationships with funders, partners, and philanthropic donors.
Key Responsibilities
Fundraising and bid development
- Identify and secure new sponsorship and partnerships opportunities to support existing RES activities
- Seek funding for new activities in line with the Society’s goals.
- Maintain and develop relationships with current and prospective partners including funding bodies, trusts and foundations, sponsors, major donors, corporates, universities and others.
- Write high-quality, persuasive funding bids and proposals, working with RES staff, trustees, and partner organisations.
- Develop cases for support, theory of change frameworks and budgets to underpin funding applications.
- Respond to calls for funding with tailored and timely applications that align with funder interests and the Society’s strategic priorities.
- Work closely with colleagues on the delivery of the funded activities, where appropriate overseeing these directly.

Person Specification
Essential Skills
- Proven experience of successful fundraising, bid writing or business development, preferably in a learned society, research organisation, professional body or in higher education.
- Understanding of impact and outcomes-based funding models (e.g. theory of change), and how to align funding opportunities with organisational priorities.
- Ability to support the development of budgets for funding bids and to track/report against income target.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills, with the ability to influence and negotiate.
