Purpose of the Role

This volunteer role is a key part of the HFEH Mind team delivering a range of services across Hammersmith and Fulham, Ealing and Hounslow. We support clients with mental health with both clinical and non-clinical interventions.

The purpose of the current role is to assist with the planning and delivery of our Adult Co-production services. This includes the Adult Co-production Group, The Shakti Project (wellbeing service for Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic individuals) and a new Young Adult Co-Production group working with 18–25-year-olds.

Main Responsibilities

This role involves working closely with service managers and the co-production coordinator to discover new organisations and community events to reach out to establish a presence and promote our co-production services, as well as work in partnership with others to improve our services.

This would include admin tasks such as drafting emails to send to our service users and partners, establishing connections with members of the community and service providers, identifying appropriate locations to distribute posters and promote the service, assisting with the creation of digital content promoting the service both digitally and in-person, helping with the planning and delivery of enrichment trips and outings, co-facilitating online groups (where applicable).

Tasks

· Attending online meetings for the Adult Co-Production Group and/or the Shakti Project

· Promoting the service to members of the South Asian and BAME community (Shakti Project) and 18–25-year-olds (Young Adult Co-Production Group)

· Assisting with admin tasks e.g. drafting up emails to send to service users, updating our co-production newsletters, emailing charity partners and public organisations.

· Assisting with in-person events such as Health Fairs, Career/Volunteer days, cultural events

Type of person we are looking for:

Essential

· Good listener with strong communication skills

· Highly reliable and good time management skills

· Open-minded and non-judgmental approach to having conversations around mental health

· Good knowledge of mental health difficulties and mental health awareness

· Understanding the needs and challenges of the South Asian and BAME community

Desirable

· Good knowledge of services, charities and organisations in Hammersmith, Fulham, Ealing and Hounslow

· Previous experience with workshop or advisory group facilitation

· Experience working with young adults aged 18-25 in a variety of settings e.g. careers service, education, inpatient or outpatient mental health services.

Time commitment and expenses:

· 6 hours per week (including a 1-hour lunch break), during our core hours of 10AM – 4 PM.

· We request a minimum commitment of 3 months of volunteering after the completion of your induction.   

· We request a minimum commitment of 6 months of volunteering before reference request.

· We will provide volunteers with an induction, training, and ongoing mentoring to support them in the role.

About the CARAS ESOL Team:

Our award-winning ESOL project offers English language classes to adults at a wide range of levels. This provides vital skills, opportunities and social contact and is crucial for enabling people to attend college and access other services in the future.

About the Role:

CARAS is looking for volunteer ESOL Teaching Assistants to support our face-to-face adult ESOL classes in Tooting and Streatham. Volunteers in this role are required to commit to at least one class ever week, either Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday during these times: 

• Mondays ESOL 10:30 to 12:30

• Tuesday 10:30 to 12:30

• Wednesday One-to-one employability and language learning support on 10:30 to 12:00 

Please note that ESOL classes do not run during school holidays, and we follow Wandsworth Council term dates.

Volunteer tasks and responsibilities:

• Providing learners with one-to-one or small group support within ESOL classes; 

• Helping to set up the classroom and provide learners with classroom resources;

• Attending and contributing to volunteer debriefs after each session; 

• Making use of any community languages you may know to help students during the class; 

• Working collaboratively as a team and helping to shape the project; 

• Supporting people to develop their knowledge and skills, encouraging and inspiring participants to reach their full potential; 

• Assisting participants to recognise and celebrate their achievements; 

• Following CARAS’ confidentiality, safeguarding, health & safety, equal opportunities, data management and all other policies as relevant.  

Requirements: 

Essential: 

• To be 18 years or older; 

• Able to travel to our community centre in Tooting (travel expenses can be reimbursed); 

• An interest in education and English language teaching; 

• To be non-judgemental and able to engage with people from diverse backgrounds; 

• To be reliable and punctual; 

• Excellent communication skills, especially with people who are new to English; 

• The ability to volunteer on Mondays or Wednesdays during Wandsworth term time for a minimum of three months; 

• Currently resident in the UK; has asylum-seeker or refugee status 

• *Able to provide five years’ worth of addresses, and willing to undergo a DBS check; 

• Able to attend volunteer induction training (online) prior to start of role. 

 *DBS and proof of residency is not necessary if you are a CARAS community member who is more recently arrived in the UK. 

Desirable: 

• Knowledge of community languages, such as Arabic, Tigrinya, Amharic, Pashto, Dari, Farsi, Kurdish, Somali or Spanish. 

Through volunteering with us you will: 

• Gain experience of English language teaching; 

• Meet new members of your local community; 

• Learn about different cultures; 

• Learn about issues relating to refugees and people seeking asylum; 

• Work as part of a friendly, welcoming team;

Why we want you: This vital role supports local groups across the UK, which are volunteer-run, offering friendship and support to people living with Parkinson's, their families, and friends. As a pivotal part of the local volunteer team, you will help plan group spending for the benefit of people affected by Parkinson's in your community.

What you will be doing: Be an ambassador for Team Parkinson’s, engaging with local staff, volunteers, and your community to ensure the group has the greatest possible impact. Accurately record financial activity, keeping the group and the Parkinson's UK local networks finance team informed of the group's financial position. With local staff support, stay updated on Parkinson's UK's financial policies, sharing them with the group and ensuring compliance. Provide regular financial reports to the committee, including final accounts at the Annual General Meeting. Deal with financial administration, from annual reports to legacy spending, and ensure accurate volunteer expense payments per policy. Be a signatory on the group's bank accounts.

The skills you need: Previous experience in finance, accountancy, or bookkeeping can be valuable but is not essential. You must be confident with numbers and able to lead the group’s finances, possessing confident computer and email skills and openness to using new systems and digital tools. A commitment to the wider charity’s aims and values is essential, as is the ability to contribute to balanced, collaborative, open, and inclusive decisions with committee and local staff.

As a fundraising volunteer we want to support you to fundraise in whatever way suits you best, whether that’s organising a fundraising event, fundraising online, promoting fundraising activities on social media, completing administration or supporting the development of new fundraising ideas! Whatever your skill set, this could be the role for you!

What we need from you

This is a really flexible role, you can choose what you’d like to get involved with, for example: 

• face-to-face fundraising. Organising or helping with fundraising events, running supermarket collections and fundraising stands, monitoring collection tins 

• online fundraising. Setting up online appeals and writing impactful cat case studies that maximise donations

• marketing. Spreading the word about our fundraising activities, for example on social media and with the local press  

• completing administration. Processing donations, sorting and recording donated goods, completing Gift Aid paperwork

● championing our work. Getting involved with developing new fundraising ideas and increasing community engagement

● photography. Capturing images of cats in care, cats we are helping, events and all things Cats Protection

Time expectation

This is a flexible role that can fit around your other commitments to suit you. You’ll be part of a team raising vital funds while having fun in the process!

We’re looking for passionate and insightful Advisory Board Members to help guide the growth and impact of our work. Whether you’re a teacher, parent, or mental health professional, your perspective will play a vital role in ensuring our programmes remain grounded, relevant, and effective for the young people we serve.

In this role, you’ll provide strategic input, share your expertise and lived experience, and act as a sounding board for our team as we develop new initiatives. You won’t be involved in day-to-day operations, but your advice and guidance will help us make stronger decisions, deepen our impact in schools, and stay aligned with the needs of students and families.

This is a flexible, voluntary position with quarterly meetings (held online – with one being in-person), and you’ll be joining a supportive and passionate group of people who share a commitment to improving youth mental health.

We are particularly interested to see applicants who have experience in any of the following roles:

• Secondary School Teacher

• Middle/Senior Management in Education (e.g., Assistant/Deputy Headteacher, Headteacher)

• School Counsellor or Wellbeing Lead

• Mental Health Professional (e.g., CAMHS clinician, therapist, nurse, psychiatrist)

• Parent/Carer with lived experience of supporting a young person’s mental health

• Youth Worker or Community Engagement Practitioner

• Academic/Researcher in child & adolescent mental health or education policy
