Role Purpose

The Operations Director is a critical leadership role responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective running of all operational aspects of Katherine Low Settlement. This role oversees the day-to-day operational leadership of the charity, ensuring that its systems, processes, and teams are aligned with strategic objectives and compliant with relevant legislation.

This position will lead on programme delivery, financial management, human resources, IT infrastructure, risk and compliance, governance, and facilities management, ensuring that the organisation operates smoothly and sustainably. The post-holder will act as the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), embedding a strong safeguarding culture across the organisation, and also be responsible for policy development and culture and wellbeing. 

As a key member of the senior leadership team, the Operations Director will work closely with the CEO, Board of Trustees, funders, partners, and staff to drive organisational effectiveness and ensure that the charity can continue delivering high-impact work.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership & Organisational Strategy

• Provide strategic leadership for all operational functions, ensuring alignment with the organisation’s mission and strategic objectives.
• Develop and implement efficient systems, processes, and policies to improve operational effectiveness.
• Work closely with the CEO and Board of Trustees to ensure that the charity is resilient, agile, and positioned for sustainable growth.
• Oversee cross-departmental collaboration, ensuring that operations support and enhance programme delivery.

Programme Delivery & Impact

• Ensure all programmes and services are effectively designed, resourced, and evaluated to achieve the best outcomes.

• As the Designated Safeguarding Lead (a role delegated by the Chief Executive), ensure robust safeguarding policies, procedures, and practices are in place.
• Provide training and guidance to staff on safeguarding responsibilities and best practices.
• Oversee the Deputy Safeguarding Leads, acting as the main point of contact for safeguarding concerns from them, ensuring they are appropriately reported and addressed.
• Embed a strong safeguarding culture, ensuring that all programmes and services prioritise the safety and wellbeing of beneficiaries.

Human Resources, People Management & Wellbeing

• Lead the HR function, ensuring best practices in recruitment, retention, staff development, and performance management.
• Champion diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), embedding a culture of fairness and opportunity for all.
• Develop and implement HR policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with employment law and best practice.

We are looking for a Mental Health Case Worker to manage a caseload of clients and provide support to those experiencing both financial and mental wellbeing issues and develop resilience and manage their mental health more effectively.

Project

The free Financial and Wellbeing Support Service in Epsom and Ewell combines the specialist mental health support with expert benefits and money advice from Citizens Advice Epsom & Ewell (CAEE) to support clients during a difficult time. This three-year project is funded by The National Lottery Community Fund.

The Role

• Increase financial resilience and independence.

• Improve overall mental and/or emotional wellbeing.

Key responsibilities include:

• Work in partnership with the Citizens Advice to support people with their mental health who are experiencing financial difficulties.

• Cultivate relationships with, and work with, other services around social wellbeing support for clients.

About the role

In this new and pivotal role, you will lead efforts to grow awareness, engagement, and income generation through a vibrant network of volunteer-led branches across  London and the South West region. As the primary point of contact and support for these branches, you'll play a vital role in empowering volunteers and fostering a sense of community and belonging throughout the region.

Working closely with the wider regional team, you will help deliver SSAFA’s new community engagement strategy — a central part of an exciting period of transformation and strategic growth for the charity.

Whilst the post is homebased, to be eligible for this role you are required to live in the South West region.

The role involves extensive travel within the region and may require occasional evening or weekend work at short notice. A company car can be provided to support this.

With the support of the Regional Manager – Casework and Community Engagement, this role plays a key part in establishing, coordinating, and leading a team of Community Engagement Volunteers across the South West Region of England.

The primary focus is to drive awareness, increase fundraising, and strengthen engagement in alignment with the strategic direction set by the Director of Welfare Operations.

You will work collaboratively with other regionally based Community Engagement Managers and strategic partners across the Fundraising, Marketing, and Communications directorate to help shape policies and guidance for branch activities,

The role involves regular meetings, both in-person and via Microsoft Teams, and you will benefit from a comprehensive support package including training, mentoring, and ongoing professional development.

About you

You will be an exceptional individual to lead this exciting initiative during a critical period of change. The ideal candidate will be a driven and highly motivated professional with a strong track record in fundraising, a solid understanding of fundraising regulations, and proven experience in leading and supporting volunteers in their efforts.

You will have excellent relationship management skills and a deep understanding of volunteer engagement and development. You will be a natural communicator with demonstrated success working with volunteers; experience in volunteer recruitment, induction, and best practice would be a strong advantage.

You will be a confident and credible networker, capable of representing SSAFA to a wide range of external stakeholders, building strong partnerships and enhancing the charity’s profile across London and South East England — all while operating remotely as part of a collaborative and regionally dispersed team.

We're at an exciting point in RNIB's journey and are looking for talented people - who share our values - to join us and make a real difference for blind and partially sighted people.

As a paralegal, you will be a key member of the Legal team and will work closely with the team to provide legal support across all aspects of the organisation. This includes our various fundraising activities and campaigns, grant making, working with our partners and suppliers, and managing our contracts as an organisation. We are looking for a candidate with paralegal experience, who has a good understanding of contracts and experience in legal processes.                                                        

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Working with other members of the Legal team to help deliver quality and consistent legal and compliance support across RNIB.

• Drafting, negotiating, reviewing and advising on straightforward contracts such as NDAs and services agreements using legal precedents and guidance notes, with supervision where required.

• Advising on legal and compliance matters in line with our policies and guidance notes.

• Working with other members of the Legal team on strategic projects, litigation or disputes.

• Championing contract management across the organisation, and being an ambassador for legal matters across the wider organisation.

• With appropriate support, develop and deliver training on our legal policies, processes and guidance.

• Take day to day responsibility for electronic contract storage management.

• Support the external supplier invoicing process and management of the legal budget.

About You

You'll have:

• at least six months' experience working as a paralegal

• ideally, a law degree (or equivalent e.g. CPE, GDL) or a recognised paralegal professional qualification although this is not essential

• excellent organisational skills and be able to manage several projects and contracts

• Strong computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.), able to quickly adapt to using new IT tools e.g. for training, audit, invoices and trade marks.

You'll be a collaborative team member, able to build strong relationships and champion compliance with legal processes.

You'll take ownership of issues, decisions and escalations

You'll be proactive and prioritise and deliver results. Working within a team of 3 lawyers and one senior paralegal, you'll join a highly collegiate and supportive environment.
