Big Issue Invest is one of the leading social impact investors in the UK and we are looking to grow the level of engagement with the social impact sector in the West Midlands and other voluntary sector organisations looking to grow their impact.
To do this we are looking for a new Investment Manager to be our regional representative. You will be based in the region but have the full support of the nationwide investment team.
We are passionate in our desire to bring more investment into the region and to build on existing networks in the regional social sector. Therefore we need someone who shares this passion and has the knowledge and skills to be able to build networks and develop investment opportunities, all backed up by a strong knowledge of the issues that Big Issue Invest exist to address alongside the wider social investment market.
You will be working closely with the BII Investment Team and the Combined Authority to proactively source, connect to and assess new investment opportunities that meet our criteria for investment. You will also work closely with WMCA other co-investors, accelerators, networks, etc, to build and maintain a pipeline of impact driven investment opportunities and support the strategic development of the portfolio.
Other key tasks include financial risk and analysis and supporting the development and refinement of the teams investment strategy.
You will bring an understanding of the most pressing social issues of the region and ideas on how they can be addressed, including different investment approaches. You will also have experience developing business pro-actively through networking, events and engagement with stakeholders in the region.
A strong understanding of debt investments and SME/corporate credit analysis and a strong ability to build and maintain relationships with other sector intermediaries and the ability to make useful connections to support social organisations will be a key requirement for this role.

Workplace details:
The role is based remotely with ability to travel across the West Midlands. Periodic meetings will take place at the West Midlands Combined Authority offices and office space is available either at WMCA or Big Issue offices in Birmingham. Occasional travel to the Big Issue offices in Finsbury Park will also form part of performing the role.

About the role
You will be responsible for co-ordinating the day-to-day running of our seasonal fulfilment operation. It will involve working as a team with order pickers motivating them and ensuring customer orders are picked, packed and dispatched accurately on time adhering to SLA’s and you will be the first point of contact for the order pickers and any operational issues.
This is a hands-on role and will require strong leadership, attention to detail and keeping things running smoothly in a fast-paced environment, helping to generate vital income through our online shop and supporting our mission to end the housing emergency.
You will work closely with the Retail Product Manager to plan resources, enhance workflows and support overall with operational efficiency. Furthermore, communicating key updates, risks and achievements to the Retail Product Manager or Community Shop Manager as required.
About you
To be successful in the role, you will need to have strong organisational skills and the ability to manage a fast-paced, high-volume operation. You will be an effective team-player with the ability to motivate and inspire others and resolve any day-to-day issues. Attention to detail is also key to pay attention to detail, quality and accuracy and you will need to be a clear and professional communicator being able to escalate issues appropriately.

They will hold a caseload of service users, acting as the key contact and contributing to care planning, progress monitoring, and discharge support using the clinical records system. A key focus will be the collaborative development of person-centred recovery plans that emphasise social goals and community integration. Using trauma-informed and strength-based approaches, they will build strong therapeutic relationships to support individuals in achieving their personal recovery goals. The role involves helping service users access local resources, attend appointments, and engage in wellbeing activities, peer support, or psychoeducational groups. They will promote recovery-focused, jargon-free communication, advocate for co-production and integrated care, and liaise with statutory and voluntary sector organisations to ensure smooth service navigation and warm handovers. Attendance at relevant clinical meetings and community events is expected, representing both Hestia and the Community Mental Health Team. About the Role
To work as part of a team that delivers an assessment, support and move on service to vulnerable clients in supported or community-based accommodation. Our work is underpinned by the Endeavour model of assets-based, psychologically informed delivery. The aim of this is to ensure that every client leaves the service with the skills and resilience to be confident and self-determining in their lives.
Working under the direction, guidance and support of a manager/senior worker you will be responsible for managing the building to ensure that the accommodation provided to the clients is safe and secure through the provision of overnight concierge service, security and door control. This includes controlling access to buildings, being the first point of contact for all emergencies and carrying out Health and Safety checks and cleaning.
Key responsibilities include:
- You will always ensure the safety and wellbeing of clients in the service possible including using Safeguarding and emergency alert procedures as applicable.
- You will provide a basic first contact advice response and security service at night to clients living in the property and/or in dispersed accommodation linked to the service
- You will be the first point of contact for visitors, contractors or services visiting the building at night
- You will be responsible for maintaining Health and Safety standards on the premises and a point of information for clients regarding Health and Safety at night
- You will actively ensure the security of the building through regular checks, and monitoring.
About You
You will need to have the following skills and experience:
- An understanding of the needs of people who have experienced homelessness, poor mental health, substance use or care leavers.
- Experience in managing the overnight safety of vulnerable clients preferably in supported housing.
- Good written and spoken communication skills to ensure the accurate handover of information both verbally and in writing between shifts.
- Experience in undertaking basic maintenance and/or delivering cleaning services.

More about the role
As Retail Area Manager, you will oversee a portfolio of Blue Cross shops across Hampshire, Dorset, Surrey, London, Hertfordshire and Wiltshire. About you
You will bring experience managing multiple retail sites, preferably within the charity sector with vast experience in growing sales and improving net profit. You will be a hands-on leader who can effectively manage and develop both employees and volunteers whilst demonstrating excellent communication and problem-solving skills. A collaborative approach is essential, as the retail team plays a key role in wider Blue Cross initiatives such as Pet Food Banks and the campaign to End Greyhound Racing.

Welcome to Ada!
At Ada National College for Digital Skills, our mission is to educate and empower the next generation of diverse digital talent. Through the quality of education we deliver, the depth of our industry partnerships and focus on diversity, we are changing the face of the tech sector, expanding the talent pipeline and transforming lives.
We are a specialist Further Education college, where every 16-19 student takes Computer Science and all of our diverse Higher Level and Degree Apprentices work in skills shortage disciplines in innovative, blue-chip companies.
The digital skills gap is costing the UK economy an estimated £63 billion a year in lost GDP. Ada seeks to fill this skills gap by equipping young with the skills industry actually needs.
Ada was announced by the Prime Minister in December 2014; England’s first new FE College since 1993 and since then we’ve gone from strength to strength including a Good with Outstanding features in our first Ofsted Inspection.
16-19 Provision:
As of 2024, we have 187 16-19 students enrolled. Our most recent results are outstanding; 39% of A level results at A*- B and 74% achieving at least one Distinction or better in their externally assessed Computing BTEC. This makes us the best education institution in the country for this BTEC.
Degree Apprenticeships:
Across our London Victoria and Manchester Ancoats campus, we have 363 apprentices currently enrolled on our Higher and Degree Level Apprenticeships. We specialise in five disciplines at present: software development, data analytics, tech consultancy, cyber security and business analysis, working with a wide range of SMEs and corporate organisations such as PwC, Bank of America, Deloitte, Clearscore, Just Eat, Capita, MHRA, Booking,com and Salesforce.
At present 38% of our learners are female, 51% are from ethnic minority backgrounds and 50% come from low income households compared to national averages of c. 20%. We’re passionate about building a supportive, values driven environment for both our students and staff.
Key Aspects of the role & main duties and responsibilities:
- Promote Ada at outreach events (careers fairs, assemblies, workshops) across Greater Manchester with the aim of meeting our application, offer holder and enrolment targets.
- Engage and network with school contacts to ensure growth of Ada’s active contacts in outreach database.
- Manage and maintain of the school database to support outreach communications.
- Assist with event planning, administration and delivery including Outreach events, Careers Fairs, Open Days, School visits to Ada and Keep Warm events - This may involve commitment on some weekends and will require evenings and earlier starts.
- Ensure we are on track to meet our targets for the volume of applications, offers and ultimately enrolments for our new Manchester Sixth Form and ensure we meet our diversity targets.
- Support the administration of the Sixth Form application process including dealing with enquiries to the inbox and on the phone in a timely manner.
- Sending application communications including invitations for assessment, offers and enrollment paperwork, data entry and keeping accurate records of all applicants and their information within the customer relationship management tools (Salesforce, Civica and others).
- Accurate record keeping and data entry into Ada’s systems to produce insightful reports to drive recruitment and inform the leadership team.
- Administration and processing of students enrolments on GCSE results days and afterwards.
- Support with creation of Marketing materials for outreach campaigns and events.

As the Event Manager [Challenge and Third-Party Events], you will play a huge part in making these ambitions a reality and paving the way for our future.

We are SIFA Fireside, the support service for any adult in Birmingham that faces homelessness. For 40 years we have supported Birmingham’s most vulnerable people through Homelessness Intervention, Prevention and Recovery services.
The Head of Fundraising and Communications forms part of SIFA Fireside’s Senior Leadership Team, playing a key role in all aspects of the organisations fundraising strategy and activities. An integral part of this role is to ensure that SIFA Fireside’s values of courageous, dynamic, inclusive and supportive are visible in all that we do.
The post holder will oversee all income generation activities, develop donor relationships and ensure that SIFA Fireside retains a high profile in Birmingham and across the West Midlands.
Provide strategic and operational leadership across all areas of fundraising and communications to ensure all adults in Birmingham can live a future without homelessness.
Contribute to the development and delivery of the organisational, fundraising and communications strategies, reporting back to the board of Trustees on key achievements.
Overall responsibility for the effective day-to-day delivery of the fundraising, volunteering and communications functions.
Lead by example in building the confidence, motivation and commitment of staff and volunteers.
Take the lead on ensuring GDPR compliance across fundraising, communications, and volunteering activities, including the responsible management of personal data, consent processes, and data retention policies.
