The position is in Richmond at 21 Kingston Lane and consists of one high support building with 12 Customers.

The service provides a 24/7 support service, with an emphasis on choice and control, enabling customers to achieve greater independence, improved quality of life and integration into the wider community.

We are looking some someone who is able to build supportive, trusting relationships with customers and create a positive atmosphere. You need to be able to provide a flexible, personalised and responsive support service that is tailored to each customer's abilities and aspirations. This will include a willingness to work evenings, weekends and bank holidays on a rota basis.

The role will also require you to maintain appropriate records to a professional standard in accordance with Look Ahead's policies and procedures. If you have experience working with and motivating customers whilst being calm and resilient to challenging behaviour, then please apply for this role

The service is open 24 Hours. The role will include weekdays and weekends with 2 days off per week. This role will consist of day shifts only.
The shifts will be:
Early: 7:30am - 3:30pm, Middle: 9am - 5pm and Late: 2:30pm - 10:30pm

What you'll do:

- Building supportive, trusting relationships with customers and creating a positive atmosphere
- Working proactively with other members of the team to handle the service caseload and administrative responsibilities

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of and help shape a new DHSC funded project - Early Support Hubs - providing innovative ways to support Young People’s (11 – 25 years) Mental Health and Wellbeing across the borough of Hackney.

This Early Intervention approach will enable young people to access support in a timely way within their own community and we will work collaboratively with the Hackney Super Youth Hub enabling a one stop shop experience for local young people.

We are looking for passionate and motivated Therapeutic Youth Workers who are committed to supporting positive change for local young people to join our team.

Main Responsibilities:

· Undertake 1:1, group, detached and outreach work with young people

· Provide one-to-one key-working up to 12 sessions, combining youth work values and principles with a therapeutic, trauma-informed approach to help address a wide range of issues that may impact on young people’s mental health and wellbeing e.g. housing, employment, physical health, education, finances and relationships.

· Use a supportive, young person-centred approach. e.g. explaining what services are and what they do, ensuring information is accurate and up-to-date, filling out forms together, making personal introductions, accompanying young people to initial meetings/sessions, being with them during phone calls etc.  

· To work with the Hackney Super Youth Hub, to support young people and liaise with appropriate professionals in the network.

· To maintain confidential, up to date and accurate records of all sessions and plans.

· Be an advocate for young people, supporting colleagues to understand adolescence, and how to engage with young people, particularly with concerns around:

o mental health and wellbeing of children and young people.

o Supporting vulnerable groups who would not otherwise receive support (levelling-up).

o Improving children and young people’s engagement with EET.

Main Requirements (for details check the job description and person specification):

· QCF Level 3 Diploma in Youth work or equivalent and have experience of youth work in a youth work setting

· Experience of working with young people, delivering therapeutic groups and/or 1 to 1 interventions in a youth work or similar setting.

· To have an active interest in working with those affected by mental health issues and recognise the impact this has on their life.

· Experience of building positive, impactful relationships with young people responding to their needs

· Excellent, up to date knowledge and understanding of safeguarding needs and risks young people may face.

· Experienced in working as part of a safeguarding team around a child, i.e. Childrens services, education, CAMHS, etc

· Experience of working in with an outreach role, in the community and school settings.

· Confident working well independently as well as in a team setting.

· Ability to use own initiative and be able to respond to change as part of a pilot initiative.

· Computer literacy including Microsoft Office suite (incl. Outlook and Word), with ability to accurately input sensitive data electronically

The vacancy

Could you be a Caseworker for vulnerable young people? Could you give them the support and guidance they need to get back on their feet and live independently?

The young people we work with have become homeless for a number of reasons – isolation or mental ill health, abusive relationships, substance misuse, involvement in gangs/county lines - their issues are complex so you will need to be able to build strong, trusting relationships so that our customers feel safe and supported. 

We are opening two new supported housing schemes in Lewisham.  Both schemes are part of our well-established Young Persons and Complex Needs service in London and will provide temporary housing for young people aged 16-17 who are experiencing homelessness.

A bit about the role:

As a Caseworker, you will be working with a team of highly motivated, compassionate, and dedicated colleagues supporting a caseload of young customers with complex needs. You’ll need to meet each customer weekly to help them with their goals and discuss their progress. And, when someone’s ready to move on, we'll rely on you to help them access the housing register or look for suitable rented accommodation.

What we’re looking for:

You may have worked with vulnerable young people in a paid or voluntary capacity, maybe as a Youth Worker or in an education setting providing pastoral care. You’re a great relationship builder, who can create trust so that our young people feel comfortable sharing their issues with you, you listen but in a non-judgemental way and you are able to spot signs for concern and act on them.

You’ll also need to be able to work on your own, sometimes dealing with challenging situations and diffusing them to avoid escalation. Is this you?

Waking Night Support Worker will be able to carry out all necessary health and safety actions including light cleaning tasks and environment management. Campbell Rd Young Peoples service provides support and housing for 55 young people in Tower Hamlets that are either leaving care of affected by youth homelessness. The Support Worker role will be to manage a caseload of approx 7-10 young people .You will be expected to deliver positive outcomes for all our young people and support them to reach independence, keep safe and maintain their tenancy's. Aside from support workers delivering support there is a strong element of housing management associated wit this role, for example managing rents, raising/monitoring repairs and health and safety.

132 Assessment Centre is for single homeless men and women that have links within the borough. The accommodation provides 6 separate self-contained units with on suite bedrooms, and 1 bedroomed flat. The scheme is staffed 24 hours, with Night Support Workers and Concierge cover during the evenings.

The aim of the project is to assess the individual over a 12-week period with the aim of identifying their support and housing needs. In that period, we will provide a bed for the customer to assist staff to carry out a detailed assessment to ensure that the recommendation for move on into alternative housing is captured correctly to assist move on for the individual into more suitable accommodation which is correct reflective of their needs based on our assessment/recommendation.

The service operates a model of personalised approach in order to address a wide range of presenting complex needs, which could range from mild learning difficulties, substance use (alcohol and drugs), offending, mental health, dual diagnoses, etc. We work closely with outside agencies in order to ensure that the individual is linked into getting the correct support whilst they remain at the assessment centre.
A major part of the Assessment Support Workers role is putting in the foundation with our customers around basic living skills and preparing the individual to be ready to move into alternative supported accommodation.

This could be the perfect role for you! The Family Support Worker is an exciting role within a growing and dynamic team, where you can help to make a real difference to the lives of unpaid carers in Lambeth. 

Having identified a gap in the identification of young carers and adult carers looking after someone with substance misuse issues, over the past year we have successfully piloted a project to identify and provide long-term support to these carers. We are now entering the second year of the project, and are looking for a new Family Support Worker to bring their expertise, enthuasism and ideas to the next stage of the project. 

The Family Support Worker will work across our Young Carers and Adult Carers Service to provide support to families affected by substance misuse, through whole-family assessments and reviews. The successful candidate will ensure that adult and young carers, and their families, have access to a range of emotional and practical support appropriate to their needs.

The successful candidate will have an understanding of working within the substance misuse field and an understanding of associated health and social issues. They will preferably have experience of working with both adults, children and young people. Oaklands & St Kilda is a pair of 6-unit supported accommodation mental health rehab services working with young people between the ages of 18-25 who may have experienced a mental health related hospital admission to gain and develop skills for future independent living. The service will support individuals transitioning from Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services to Adult services.

The service forms part of a pair of services supporting up to 12 individuals at any one time across the sites, providing a welcoming and supportive environment for young people across London on a spot purchase basis.

Support workers will manage a number of young people to help them to identify, plan and achieve their goals, develop relationships meaningful to them and achieve greater independence by providing a flexible and individually tailored support package.

This is a Waking Night role working to support young people throughout the night at the service. This role completed 10 hour shifts 4 days a week across all days of the week.

About you:

Ability to advocate for young people in different professional and community spaces
Values working collaboratively with young people to ensure the service best meets their needs.
An understanding of peoples' contexts and how this might be impacting them their lives and mental health
Cultural awareness and respect for the many different ways a person might make sense of their experiences and distress.
We welcome applications from people with lived experience of some of the challenges that this service aims to support with for example, mental health difficulties.
Plans and encourages involvement in local activities.
Approachable and open behaviour
Recognises the value of both 1:1 working with young people and the importance of working working as part of a group or team
Confident in the completion of regular paperwork and is well organised

Recognises the likelihood that the service will be a dynamic diverse environment and considers the impact of changes
Confident in the use of IT systems such as SharePoint and Microsoft Office
Is respectful, articulate and sensitive in style of communication
Ability to cope positively with challenging and diverse behaviours

What you'll bring:

Essential:

Up to NVQ Level 2/3 or equivalent or experience supporting young people or people experiencing mental health challenges.

Desirable:

Experience working in complex mental health environments
