Help the people behind Addiction Family Support’s helpline and support services feel skilled, supported and ready for the conversations that matter. As our Training & Support Manager, you’ll shape engaging learning and reflective practice for volunteers supporting families affected by a loved one’s harmful use of alcohol, drugs or gambling.

Addiction Family Support (AFS) supports adults affected or bereaved by someone else’s harmful use. Our client-facing volunteers meet people at difficult moments, often when they feel isolated or unsure where to turn. Your work will help them listen well, maintain clear boundaries and provide safe, consistent support.

This is a varied maternity-cover role with two main parts. You’ll plan and deliver induction and ongoing training, bringing topics such as listening skills, safeguarding, professional boundaries and the 5-Step Method to life through discussion, case studies and skills practice. You’ll also provide reflective practice supervision for client-facing volunteers, giving them space to think through their work, recognise learning needs and manage its emotional impact.

You’ll work closely with our Services Manager and colleagues across AFS, coordinate contributions from other trainers, and use feedback to keep our learning programme effective and accessible. You’ll know when a concern needs to be passed to a manager, a Designated Safeguarding Lead or someone with specialist expertise.

We’re looking for someone who enjoys helping adults learn and has experience of both participative training and structured reflective practice or supervision. You’ll bring sound judgement, warmth and the confidence to give constructive feedback. Experience of supporting volunteers, working with affected family members or using the 5-Step Method would be welcome, but you do not need to have worked in all of these areas.
