Independent Living Advisor - Direct Payments

The Organisation

Action on Disability (AoD), founded in 1979, is one of London’s leading Deaf and Disabled People’s Organisations. As we believe in the social model of Disability, our values and principles embrace inclusive and accessible ways of working both internally and in all our activities, seek the participation and contribution of our members, and encourage and respect diversity.

The organisation is a medium sized charity with a Board of Trustees (at least 75% is Disabled trustees), 20 staff and a strong ad hoc staff and volunteer base including many with direct experience of Disability - all of whom are passionate about removing the barriers that Disabled people face.

AoD provides five key services. These are: Youth, Employment, Welfare Benefits, Independent Living and Advocacy.

AoD’s Independent Living Service
The Independent Living Service (Direct Payments) is a new service that will provide support to Direct Payment users within the borough of Hammersmith and Fulham. The service will enable Disabled people to have genuine choice and control over the way in which they lead their lives. The post-holder will be working alongside disabled people to enable them to have more choice and control over their care and support needs.

The Role

In this role you will be providing essential information, advice and support to individuals from diverse backgrounds. You will work with Disabled clients to empower them to take control of the support they need by using Direct Payments, employing their own staff and accessing activities or services. You will ensure that individuals have the right information to make informed choices and will help them to set up and manage their chosen support.

You will have excellent communication, interpersonal and IT skills and the ability to work as part of a team. Experience of budgeting and recruitment are essential for this role.

Experience of working in social care is not essential as training will be provided, however a “can-do” attitude, a commitment to a person-centred approach and a willingness to learn is a must. Being part of a small team, there is a lot of opportunity for you to develop and learn new skills.

The work is varied and calls upon a wide range of skills, and there is huge job satisfaction in supporting people to achieve greater wellbeing and independence.

Maths Champions is an online professional development programme, enabling early years settings to access CPD from their setting without the need to release staff to attend external training. The Role

As a Treescape Curator, you will help conserve and enhance all of the Royal Parks through resilient, biodiverse and beautifully curated tree landscapes.

The Research Grants Officer’s role is to support the Research team to ensure that The Charity effectively delivers our Research Strategy: Accelerating a Cure and our grant programme.

• Work with and assist the Research Team in the implementation of The Charity’s strategic goals and research strategy.

About the Role 

The Content Creator will play a vital role in helping Urban Saints communicate with clarity, creativity, and consistency across all platforms. From video editing and creating social media graphics, to designing resources, brochures, or branded assets, this role is responsible for creating visually engaging content that amplifies our message and inspires action.

You'll be responsible for:

• Designing and producing compelling visual content across digital and print formats.
• Filming and editing videos for campaigns, training materials and resources.
• Managing and editing visual assets, including team-supplied images.
• Contributing ideas and visual concepts to support campaigns and storytelling.
• Acting as a brand guardian for visual content, ensuring consistency across all channels.
• Working closely with other members of the Communications team to deliver content for campaigns, training, and wider initiatives.

Please note, this is predominantly a remote role, but with travel as the role requires. All full-time Urban Saints employees are required to attend two team residentials per year (3 days/ 2 nights each).

About You

You'll shape and deliver high-quality content that supports campaigns, promotes our training and resources, and strengthens Urban Saints’ brand both online and in print.

Key Skills and Experience:

• Strong design and video editing skills across digital and print formats.
• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, and video editing software (Premiere Pro, Final Cut etc)
• Confident in video production – from filming to postproduction.
• Ability to develop content for a range of platforms including social media, web, email, and YouTube.
• Strong attention to detail and visual consistency.
• Proven experience in a content creation, multimedia, or graphic design role.
• Experience creating visual content as part of multi-channel campaigns (e.g. email, social media, website etc).
• Experience working with brand guidelines and visual identities.
• Understanding of digital content trends, platform specifications, and audience behaviour.

The Head of Safeguarding is a senior leadership role within the organisation, responsible for driving safer cultures and safeguarding strategies across the organisation. 

You will serve as the organisation’s Designated Safeguarding Lead, working closely with the Chief Officer, Board of Trustees, and a dedicated Safeguarding Subcommittee.

You will lead the design, implementation and continuous improvement of safeguarding and safe recruitment policies and practice across the organisation — supporting staff, volunteers, and members in ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all, especially children, young people, and vulnerable individuals.You will also supervise our internal safeguarding practitioners and contribute to a culture of continuous learning and improvement by overseeing case reviews, leading appeals processes, and advising on training and the development learning tools and materials in relation to safeguarding policy and practice.
