Job summary
Reporting to the head of growth and sitting within the engagement team you will:
- recruit volunteers by promoting Re-engage’s services,
- develop effective relationships with new and existing referrers such as social prescribers and community link workers
- identify and cultivate new, innovative referral pathways to connect with a broader demographic of seniors experiencing social isolation and loneliness
- support the wider Re-engage team in the delivery of our grant funded projects
Engagement officer tasks and requirements
- Growing and developing our network of referral partners, including social prescribers and link workers, ensuring that Re-engage's work is promoted to people aged 75 who are experiencing social isolation and loneliness.
- Partnering with communities to create regular, volunteer led, social gatherings for people aged 75
- Utilise Re-engage's CRM (OPUS) to inform evidence-based, data-driven decision-making to develop effective engagement plans.
- Working closely with the service delivery team ensuring that the right people are recruited and engaged into the right roles, in the right place, and at the right times.
- Collaborating with the communications team ensuring the widest possible publicity for the region’s needs through media and social media opportunities, local press, radio, TV, and online forums.
- Liaising closely with the fundraising team delivering against recruitment targets linked to grants.
- Working with the fundraising team on proposals and grant applications using regional knowledge, identifying local need, and collecting case studies.
- Identifying speaking and presenting opportunities ensuring that Re-engage's work is promoted to referrers.
- Working effectively as part of a regional team, maintaining, and growing all Re-engage services.
- Joint accountability, with colleagues in the region, for the engagement of older people and recruitment of volunteers into Re-engage's portfolio of services
- Carrying out any other reasonable tasks assigned to you by your line manager.
- You’ll be a proactive, solution-focused person with passion and skill for networking and building relationships. You’ll be experienced at building and maintaining effective relationships with referrers and social prescribers and will be a flexible, hands-on team player, who will deliver Re-engage's strategic objectives, values, behaviours, and working practices.

- Full driving license and own car preferred as this post will require regional travel as and when required and the occasional overnight stay.

You will be responsible for delivering on shared strategic goals through compelling communications, externally and across our network of participants, staff, volunteers and organisations which offer the DofE. You’ll amplify the voices of young people, support relationships with funders and other partners, and continually promote the charity’s influence, reputation and brand profile.
The Head of Communications is one of two senior leadership roles in a wider Engagement team, which in December 2024 won Team of Year in the prestigious CharityComms Inspiring Communicator Awards. Working in partnership with our Head of Brand Marketing, you’ll build on that success, bringing a collaborative approach as we evolve our objectives and ways of working. You’ll play a key role as we mark DofE’s 70th birthday in 2026, then pivot to a new organisational strategy for 2026-31.
Critically, you will lead and shape the engagement of our network of almost 5,000 licensed organisations, 38,000 amazing volunteers and more than half a million participants, working closely with senior Operations colleagues. You’ll oversee staff communications, media and PR, and lead on corporate and crisis comms. Members of your team deliver our Youth Ambassadors programme and crucial support for DofE’s Fundraising and External Affairs.
We’re looking for someone who is versatile – able to switch between the big picture and the detail, with antennae equally alert to risks and opportunities. You’ll be an accomplished diplomat and influencer, with an ability to spot and make connections within and beyond the team. Given the breadth of the role, the successful candidate would ideally bring prior experience of different elements of the brief, together with proven experience of team leadership.

Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement a high-impact philanthropy strategy, securing significant donations (5 and 6-figure gifts).

- Lead the stewardship of Tusk’s Patron’s Circle and donor programmes.
- Organise high-profile fundraising events and donor cultivation activities.

This full-time role is currently based at Tusk’s office in Gillingham, Dorset, but will shortly relocate to Tisbury, a village between Gillingham and Salisbury on the mainline from London Waterloo. Candidates based elsewhere, particularly along the corridor between Salisbury, Andover, Basingstoke, Winchester, Woking, Guildford, and Greater London, are strongly encouraged to apply. Regular attendance at the Tisbury office (ideally once or twice per week) will be expected. Some UK travel, including to London, as well as occasional evening and weekend events, will be required.
Tusk offers a salary of circa £55,000 per annum (negotiable), along with 25 days holiday, private medical healthcare, a stakeholder pension scheme, and death in service cover.
