Overview of the Regional Coordinator role and the team

Job Purpose

This role sits within our new forensic Women’s Nova Roots service, which is a peer led service for women who are leaving forensic services, based in West London. The service will be open 3 days a week: one weekday evening out of hours and three weekends a month (flexible weekend pattern and times can be arranged).

The aim of the service is to support women who are leaving forensic care to re-integrate into society by offering a community social hub. The focus of the service is to provide social engagement, relaxation and a touch point for out of hours forensic support. The Women’s Hub will provide face-to-face holistic group support, offer psychoeducation and health workshops tailored and coproduced to the direct needs of clients, offer peer-led groups which will be co-designed and led by the clients accessing the hub. We will also offer a range of activities onsite.

Nova Roots will be an extension of the existing support offered by the Specialist Community Forensic Team (SCFT), offering out of hours social support. All referrals into the hub will be directly from the SCFTs and local hospitals.

The Nova Roots will be staffed with 1 part time Project Coordinator and 4 Forensic/Peer Led Volunteers – with Service Manager oversight. The Project Coordinator will work directly and closely with the SCFTs.

The Role

The role of the Nova Roots Project Coordinator is to arrange and coordinate a range of psychoeducation, health and peer-led workshops which will be delivered 3 times a week. The Nova Roots Project Coordinator will be responsible for managing the 4 peer-led volunteers and oversight of the site 3 days a week. Reporting to the Director, HR Policy and Employee Relations, this post is responsible for maintaining existing HR policies and contributing to the development of new policy in consultation with a wide range of HR colleagues and stakeholders across the School.
This role also supports the development and implementation of key employee engagement and wellbeing projects. This includes playing an important role in developing and implementing initiatives and actions that emerge from staff feedback and annual benchmark reports. The post-holder will present a positive and efficient image of the Human Resources Division, working collaboratively with colleagues inside and outside the Division in order to deliver high-quality solutions that contribute towards the School's strategic agenda.Key responsibilities will include:

Policy Development:

• To stay informed of new legislative developments and ensure that appropriate revisions to HR policy are made accordingly, as well as working with the Director, HR Policy and Employee Relations to ensure that the wider HR Division is aware of the changes.
• To undertake appropriate policy benchmarking across the sector and with other leading organisations (both public and private).
• To support in ensuring that the university has a set of up-to-date and appropriate HR / employment policies and that these are accessible to staff and line managers, maintaining a regular programme of monitoring, review and improvement.
• To contribute to the development of discussion papers, with appropriate recommendations, for consideration by the HR Management Board, School Management Committee (SMC) and trade unions.
• To effectively engage and consult with appropriate representatives of the staff community in the development of HR/employment policies.
• To work collaboratively with other HR colleagues (e.g. HR Partners, Organisational Learning) to develop effective communication strategies to ensure that LSE policies are well communicated and widely understood.

Employee Engagement Projects

• To co-ordinate (i.e. arranging meetings, formulating the agenda, taking minutes and monitoring and following up on resulting actions) and / or participate in a number of internal working groups and consultative forums with trade union members, HR colleagues and managers around the school.
• To support ongoing activities relating to staff engagement and wellbeing, e.g. related projects, events and initiatives.
• To produce draft reports and initial analyses to support the development of new projects and initiatives.
• To support the Director, HR Policy and Employee Relations in monitoring the progress of both individual projects and progress against over-arching action plans, e.g. the School's Gender Pay Gap report.
• To take on the role of Data Lead for the HR Policy Team, supporting with developing the reporting and analytics roadmap, refining the data model to enable better use of available data and providing feedback on data quality issues.To liaise with the Information and Systems team, and other relevant colleagues as required, to produce timely and accurate management information to support project and development work within the team.
• To plan, organise and communicate the school's annual flu vaccination clinics, liaising with external and internal stakeholders, to ensure that this runs effectively.
• To complete annual benchmarking reports, developing and implementing action plans based on feedback.

Purpose 

The principal responsibility of an Associate Organiser is their own development: learning the craft of Community Organising under the guidance of an experienced Community Organiser. They work intensively with a small number of member organisations under close supervision, growing their experience, skill and responsibility incrementally. An Associate Organiser is working towards becoming a competent practitioner of the craft of broad-based community organising methodology, and focuses on the building of relational power, the recruitment and retention of dues-paying institutions, the development of leaders, the strengthening of member institutions, leader-led public actions, and the winning of systemic change. 

This role is particularly to organise around the issue of low pay and precarious work and participate in Citizens UK’s flagship campaign, the Living Wage Campaign. We need someone who can speak Spanish as well as English, as south London’s Latin American communities are leading the work in South London. There is scope to involve leaders in campaigns around housing, health and migrants' rights, as we recognise that people affected by low pay are very often determined to take action on wider issues beyond work.     The purpose of the role is to develop leadership, especially grassroots leadership, workers from London’s lowest paid sectors, that can power the campaign. Crucially the Associate Organiser will work with colleagues in South London Citizens to build and execute a strategy that develops powerful leaders for South London Citizens and wins the Living Wage, Living Hours and other material gains for thousands of workers across the capital.

Build relational power to further the goals of CUK

The Production Coordinator is responsible for maintaining, overseeing and coordinating all of FCW’s in-cell production. This is an exciting and varied role which helps contribute to the smooth running of the charity.

The duties of the role include:

· Administration of sending and receiving kits stitched in prison.

· Supporting volunteers teaching in prison by dealing with materials requests and orders.

· Ensuring our stitchers are paid for their work accurately and efficiently.

· Providing feedback on the stitching by our in-prison workforce.

· Assisting the extended production team with the ordering of materials, special commissions, donations requests and our tapestry finishing service.

· Gathering, logging and reporting on information related to production and prisoner pay using FCW’s custom database.

· Visiting our stitching groups in prison to get an better understanding of the challenges with production that both our volunteer teachers and our stitchers might face in delivering FCW production

You should have excellent interpersonal skills, be accurate in your attention to detail, be flexible and have the ability to take initiative. We expect you to work independently, prioritising your own workload, as well as working as part of a small, lively team.

Principal Accountabilities for the Core Job:

1. Support our volunteers and stitchers by sending our pre-prepared kits to volunteers around the country ahead of the stitching classes and receiving kits back from volunteers.
2. Administer the production process on FCW’s custom database: logging items as they are sent to prisons and volunteers around the country, tracking items as they are returned from prison, providing feedback to prisoners on the work completed and maintaining standards through rigorous quality control.

5. Log data, collate and report on production, prisoner pay and stitcher statistics as required for the senior management and the fundraising teams, to include monthly reports and annual reports.
6. Supporting the use of FCW’s custom database to include testing and feedback on new features and uploading and maintaining relevant information.
7. Order materials in advance for production activities in prison workshops as well as at the FCW office, liaising with commercial suppliers as well as materials donors. Supporting the production manager with the production of all kits in prison workshops as well as by volunteers in the office.
8. Work with the Programmes and Impact Officer to enable Open College Network accredited training to be delivered in prisons by making up and sending out starter kits and materials to stitchers.
9. With the Programmes and Impact Officer, provide technical support for our lone stitchers by sending out work, talking to them on the phone or replying to letters.
10. Where appropriate, working with the Design and Commissions team to assist with the preparation of specialist kit and sample products, ordering materials and collecting stitcher feedback to assist with future production.
11. Coordinate FCW’s tapestry finishing and making up service.
12. Support the production manager to ensure that all ability and pay levels are appropriate to FCW’s stitcher population ensuring these are made and assigned with a view to developing prisoners’ skills and self-responsibility.
13. With the Programmes team, co-facilitate production training for volunteers both online and in person.
14. Assist with bi-annual stock counts involving staff, volunteers, prison leavers and prison staff to include finished items, work in progress and raw materials in all the prisons where FCW operates, as well as at FCW’s London office.
15. Coordinate Fine Cell Work volunteers with their weekly tasks as provided by the production manager.
16. First point of contact for phone calls to the office, assisting callers with enquiries and diverting calls to relevant members of staff.
17. On occasion, visit cell groups in prison around the country to support volunteers and stitchers in FCW production.
18. Assist with Fine Cell Work events as and when required.
19. Ad hoc duties to support the work of the charity as required including back-up support to production with apprentices and volunteers in the Clothworkers Studio.

Set up in 1997 by Lady Anne Tree following years of lobbying the government to change prison rules about prisoners earning money from work done in their cells, Fine Cell Work operates in 38 British prisons engaging with over 600 people in prison in 2024. Our stitchers are supported by our skilled and valued volunteers who visit prison fortnightly to teach needlework.

By providing, paid, purposeful activity to prepare people in prison to successfully reintegrate into the community post-release, we are teaching key soft employment skills, supporting the development of self-discipline and self-belief,  and working to improve prisoner well-being, all key in reducing recidivism.

Purpose of the job

This role creates a positive impact for young people by managing partners through the effective delivery of our youth work programmes, delivering high quality facilitation and training and building excellent relationships across a region to contribute to improvements in our network offer.

 Working with Project Mangers across Network Delivery, you will enable the effective delivery of our provision to the youth sector through effective contract management and support for partnerships with Delivery Partners and Grantees. You will deliver high quality training and facilitated sessions, translating curriculum and content into engaging and effective delivery. Working across the Northeast of England, Wales and Northern Ireland you will pro-actively build relationships with organisations and networks and foster connections that will help to unlock youth work for all young people. You will gather insights from across your area to feed into and contribute to the development of our offer to our network.

Key responsibilities

Programme delivery

• Account and contract management of relationships with a portfolio of Delivery Partners and Grantees within your geographical location

• Ensure that Delivery Partners and Grantees understand their programme and grant requirements and are successfully delivering against those

• Support Project Managers in coordinating and administering a range of project activities through the project lifecycle including contracting, onboarding, monitoring progress, event management and delivery and data collection

• Conduct visits to youth organisations engaged in our digital and physical delivery

• Support the Impact team with monitoring and evaluation of our work as required, including data input and collection

• Support the External Relations team with opportunities to engage media and politicians with specific projects.

Facilitation and training

• Deliver engaging and effective facilitation, training and events across both digital and physical platforms.

• Translate curriculum, content and workforce development tools into impactful delivery for youth workers and young people across both digital and physical platforms.

Network Development

• Build knowledge of the provision of support for young people in your geographical location to enable you to act as an effective relationship builder, networker and connector

• Actively engage individuals, organisations and specific networks that can support development of our delivery (e.g., employment networks, regional infrastructure organisations, Violence Reduction Networks)

• Facilitate Delivery and Grantee networks and collaboration spaces as per the requirements of our youth work provision and network offer

• Engage Delivery Partners and Grantees with our network offer and facilitate the embedding of our youth development content and workforce support tools

• Identify opportunities to showcase excellent Delivery Partner and/or Grantee practice to the wider network through our internal and external channels

• Develop regional network insights and intelligence and feed those into the development of our network offer
