Independent Living Advisor - Direct Payments
Location: Centre for Independent Living, Mo Mowlam House, Clem Atlee Court, SW6 7BF
Salary: £26,500 per annum pro rata
Hours: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week (Monday to Friday 9am–5pm)
Contract: Fixed to 31st March 2026, with potential to extend to permanent

The Organisation

Action on Disability (AoD), founded in 1979, is one of London’s leading Deaf and Disabled People’s Organisations. The organisation is a medium sized charity with a Board of Trustees (at least 75% is Disabled trustees), 20 staff and a strong ad hoc staff and volunteer base including many with direct experience of Disability - all of whom are passionate about removing the barriers that Disabled people face.

AoD provides five key services. These are: Youth, Employment, Welfare Benefits, Independent Living and Advocacy.

AoD’s Independent Living Service
The Independent Living Service (Direct Payments) is a new service that will provide support to Direct Payment users within the borough of Hammersmith and Fulham. The service will enable Disabled people to have genuine choice and control over the way in which they lead their lives. The post-holder will be working alongside disabled people to enable them to have more choice and control over their care and support needs.

The Role

In this role you will be providing essential information, advice and support to individuals from diverse backgrounds. You will work with Disabled clients to empower them to take control of the support they need by using Direct Payments, employing their own staff and accessing activities or services. You will ensure that individuals have the right information to make informed choices and will help them to set up and manage their chosen support.

You will have excellent communication, interpersonal and IT skills and the ability to work as part of a team. Experience of budgeting and recruitment are essential for this role.

Experience of working in social care is not essential as training will be provided, however a “can-do” attitude, a commitment to a person-centred approach and a willingness to learn is a must. Being part of a small team, there is a lot of opportunity for you to develop and learn new skills.

The work is varied and calls upon a wide range of skills, and there is huge job satisfaction in supporting people to achieve greater wellbeing and independence.

As Reception and Volunteer Pathway Lead, you will act as the first point of contact for visitors, ensuring a welcoming and professional environment, and also manage incoming calls, emails, and correspondence and maintain a tidy and accessible reception area.  You will also design and deliver a volunteer pathway programme for individuals returning to employment, which will include recruiting and onboarding volunteers with a focus on those who have been out of work and collaborating with internal departments to identify placement opportunities and role specifications.

About the role

The Lab is now working with Demos, a leading cross-party think tank and the Lloyds Bank Foundation on a collaborative project to celebrate community-led change across the country. The project will seek: (1) to connect an array of brilliant organisations creating new forms of public services and (2) write a narrative that puts this community-led innovation at the centre of broader efforts at rethinking how the state delivers for its citizens. The project will work with leaders across civil society, academia and the highest levels of politics to demonstrate the potential for community-led change to generate national renewal.

We are seeking a motivated individual to take on the role of Project Network Coordinator. They will report to the Director of the UCL Policy Lab and work closely with the team. The post is fixed term for the duration of nine months either full or part time with the possibility to be extended.

The post holder will be expected to work both at UCL but also on ad hoc occasions from the offices of our partner organisation, Demos.

The salary for this role is between £36,433 and £39,807 per anum dependent on experience and includes the London Allowance.

About you

The UCL Policy Lab wishes to appoint a Project Network Coordinator to help draw together representatives of a vast array of community-based organisations currently innovating in public service reform. The Coordinator will support the project team to develop a core coalition to drive forward the work. The individual will work closely with both the UCL Policy Lab team, Demos and other project partners in the oversight and delivery of events that bring these organisations together so that they can share their experiences and expertise. The individual will also help oversee and coordinate the programme of high-level private workshops exploring the policy implications of these organisations' activities, providing extensive service support to attendees as well as supporting the project to build up a wide network of key stakeholders.

The individual will be crucial to designing and delivering a high-quality experience for the participants as well as ensuring that the dialogue builds overtime and its richness is fully captured and shared with senior stakeholders. The individual will also run the sessions and assist the Lab with both research and administrative support in the run up to the events.

The post holder will report directly to the Lab's Director but also work closely with the Policy Lab team.

The post holder must be able to work flexibly, independently and proactively.

Duties and responsibilities

• Work with Lab leadership to recruit members for a new network of community-led public service innovators from across the UK
• Support Lab and Demos leaders engagement with senior stakeholders in the national government and the opposition, as well as the local movement, to help share findings and drive political impact.
• Build relationships with the key individuals in this sector to understand their contributions and concerns and be able to share them with others
• Assist with the delivery of engaging collaborative workshops for members of this network and the project team.
• Conduct interviews with network members and draft policy briefs and memos for circulation to the broader network and the policy team.
• Track and report impact from the network for internal purposes, marketing and various evaluation processes (e.g., writing website content, newsletters and contributing to final reports)
• Work with the UCL Policy Lab team to help deliver operational support for the activities of the project, including: contributing to shared infrastructure and tools; working with the Communications and Engagement manager to deliver wider impact; working with the Team to co-ordinate delivering of world class policy events, including our party conference programme.
• Manage a front of house team at events including PhD students or equivalent on short term placements.
• Follow and promote UCL policies, including Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI), and maintain an awareness and observation of fire and health and safety regulations.

About the Role

This is a rare opportunity to take a senior leadership role at North London Open Spaces, and directly contribute to and make a meaningful impact in the conservation and protection of these cherished green spaces. 

As a member of the senior management team, the successful candidate will serve as the primary subject matter expert at NLOS for nature conservation, conceiving and leading on initiatives, advising colleagues, and working collaboratively both internally and externally.  They will have responsibility for overseeing the day-to-day management of most of Hampstead Heath and all of Highgate Wood, and will also oversee a number of services that function across and support the four open spaces (eg, arboriculture and tree management, waste and recycling, conservation, and ecology).  

For the better performance of their duties, the Head of Conservation will be required to reside in accommodation that is provided on site and will be scheduled onto an on-call and duty manager rota with other colleagues.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary subject matter expert for nature conservation at Hampstead Heath, Highgate Wood, Queen’s Park, and West Ham Park
• Oversee the day-to-day management of Highgate Wood and most of Hampstead Heath
• Oversee arboriculture / tree management, waste management, conservation, habitat creation/restoration and management, wildlife management, water body management, and climate change adaptation across North London Open Spaces
• Lead and motivate a team of 25-30 multi-skilled professionals committed to the conservation of these four sites
• Ensure compliance with all applicable legislation, including environmental protection, climate change, nature recovery, wildlife protection, flood risk management, and health and safety.

About You

We are looking for a high-energy and innovative leader with a strong background in nature conservation, open space management, and team leadership. 

The successful candidate will bring:

• Demonstrable experience in managing complex public open spaces.
• Comprehensive experience developing and delivering biodiversity and land management programmes and projects in a range of habitats, ideally within an urban setting.

• Significant experience managing complex conservation work and projects across varied landscapes
• Significant knowledge of biodiversity and wildlife management, including land and water management.

• Strong experience managing a diverse team of professionals in an operational environment. 

• Experience of implementing legislation and policy relevant to biodiversity conservation, planning guidance, and site designation for wildlife conservation and species status designations.

Summary

We are seeking a proactive and diligent Compliance Officer to join our Recruitment and Operations team. You will be responsible for providing a robust compliant onboarding service for all successful applicants to our awardwinning Tutoring Programmes; ensuring all candidates are ready and fully eligible to start their delivering tuition sessions in colleges across the country. Compliance and Onboarding:

Together, the charities Sands and Tommy’s have formed a Joint Policy Unit (JPU) focussed on achieving policy change that will save more babies’ lives during pregnancy and the neonatal period and on tackling inequalities in loss, so that everyone can benefit from the best possible outcomes.

The JPU’s mission is to secure policy change that will reduce rates of miscarriage, stillbirth, pre-term birth and neonatal death, and to work to eliminate inequalities in these outcomes.

The Senior IDVA will work within a dynamic, fast paced, crisis intervention, advocacy and support service to ensure the voice of survivors informs every stage of the process. This is a great development opportunity for an experienced IDVA looking to take the next step in their career. Along with regular case work, this role requires confident use of Modus in order to coordinate and ensure the quality of Duty, as well as the ability to work to policies and procedures and be able to prioritise effectively.

About You:

To be successful in this role, you will need to have an excellent understanding of domestic violence and its effects on women and children and of best practice within the domestic abuse sector and in working with women with children. As an experienced domestic violence advocate who has worked with complex and multiple needs, you will be skilled in risk management and safety planning, remaining calm in a crisis and in handling sensitive information on a daily basis.

Experience of direct work with female survivors of domestic violence and of working within safeguarding procedures is essential for this post, as is the need to adopt and promote a strong partnership approach to service provision. You will be adept at juggling front line work and management responsibilities, with an ability to prioritise, work collaboratively and demonstrate innovation in time management and service delivery methods.

World Jewish Relief created the Specialist Training and Employment Programme (STEP) for refugees in 2016 and today we are the largest provider of specialist employment support to people who have experienced forced migration in the UK.STEP aims to support and empower people through a tailored employment programme that addresses the complex barriers that they face when preparing for and ultimately finding work in the UK.   

We support all people who have experienced forced migration, regardless of their proximity to the labour market, to develop the skills and access the opportunities they need to secure sustainable and meaningful employment. We run STEP online and in person programmes across the UK.  

We are now expanding our work to deliver (in partnership with the British Council) an English Language and Employment Support Programme for up to 4,000 Ukrainians and Hong Kong BNO status/visa holder (50% of each community) over the next 12 months.

We are recruiting Cantonese speaking Employment Advisors to join the STEP team delivering this new programme. You will provide high quality advice and guidance through 1:1 employability support and group employability workshops with the aim of coaching individuals and supporting them on their journey into employment that suits their previous experience and skill set.

You will prepare participants for employment and help them to achieve their chosen training and employment objectives. You will monitor and encourage participants’ engagement and attendance in all aspects of the programme. You will provide an exemplary level of support to STEP participants working towards a variety of performance targets based on the progression outcomes of participants including successful delivery of workshops, completion of training courses, volunteering, and achieving and sustaining paid employment. 

The Employment Advisors will work remotely and can be based anywhere in the UK.

About you
