Wildlife and Countryside Link is a coalition of 90 environmental charities. We are looking for a Policy Officer to help develop, advocate and win policy improvements for nature.

The Government has promised to halt the decline of nature by 2030 and to net zero by 2050, committing to decarbonising our energy systems as a core government mission. Such commitments have been made within the backdrop of a challenging economic environment. The next few years will be critical in securing nature based solutions as part of the drive to reach net zero and in developing our understanding of and engagement with private investment for nature’s recovery as these fledging funding streams evolve.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated Policy Officer to convene environmental policy experts to agree bold shared policy positions. This role will focus on economic systems change, including innovative work on ways to drive private investment in nature; and on the role that nature must play in helping us to adapt to and mitigate the effects of climate change. There will be lots of thinking, lots of writing, and lots of opportunities to shape shared campaigns with excellent opportunities to engage with and work alongside some of the leading experts in these policy areas. You will also play a key role in delivering those messages to key influencers in Government and in Parliament.

The successful candidate will work within a small but mighty UK team, and collaborate across global offices to achieve lasting change for animals.

This is a dynamic, multi-faceted campaigning role that will see you:

• Plan, coordinate, and deliver creative, strategic public campaigns
• Build relationships with decision-makers, regulators, and key stakeholders
• Organise peaceful protests and attention-grabbing direct actions
• Mobilise volunteers across the UK to take meaningful action
• Conduct research, support exposés, and uncover animal welfare scandals
• Work with media and comms teams to amplify campaign messages

We’re looking for someone who brings:

• In-depth experience in campaigning, advocacy, or a related field
• Proven ability to plan and deliver engaging, impactful campaigns
• Excellent communication and copywriting skills

Role snapshot

This is a fantastic opportunity to join Young Citizens in one of two key Programme Coordinator roles, each helping to deliver our national education programmes.

• As Programme Coordinator – Event and Project Lead, you’ll oversee the planning and delivery of around 65 events each year, from mock trials and school workshops to teacher training and sector-facing events, ensuring every detail contributes to a high-quality experience for young people, educators, and volunteers. In addition to event delivery, the role also involves leading key projects that support programme development and growth.
• As Programme Coordinator – Schools Engagement Lead, you’ll be the main point of contact for over 480 secondary schools, managing registrations, communications, and support to ensure smooth, engaging participation across our programmes.

Both roles are vital to our mission of empowering young people through active citizenship. You’ll play a hands-on role in shaping a well-established charity as we deliver on our 3-year strategy, with opportunities to facilitate workshops and mock trials, coordinate programme delivery, and build strong relationships with stakeholders. You’ll be part of a small, collaborative team where clear processes, adaptability, and a passion for social impact are key to success.

Who are we looking for?

We’re looking for highly organised, proactive individuals who thrive in fast-paced environments and care deeply about making a difference for young people. Whether your strengths lie in event logistics or school engagement, you’ll bring energy, precision, and a collaborative mindset to our dynamic team.

You’ll have experience coordinating programmes or events, managing busy workloads, and building strong relationships with a range of stakeholders. Confidence in facilitation (or a willingness to train), strong IT skills, and a solutions-focused approach are essential.

This is a hybrid working role, requiring office attendance a minimum of 2 days a week during non-delivery periods and may require more frequent office attendance during delivery periods. Candidates should be based within a reasonable commute to St Paul’s, London and have the existing right to work in the UK.
